Pat 44 Report post Posted June 3, 2011 I've seen many people ranting and raving about Jiri Hudler on this board and I want to see what you guys think he is worth to this team. I believe he is worth about 1-2m with this years production and if he turns to a 70 point guy maybe a bit more.

Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 (edited) To be honest, given the contracts a large number of players with similar production to him (and many of those with just as unspectacular other areas of the game), I can live with him at $2.8. It's not great, but people should go look at the contracts (and play) of some non-ELC players in the same production range for perspective. It was overpayment for this year, but if he even halves the difference between his production this year and the production that earned him that contract (which would put him in mid 40s points-wise) 2.8 will be quite decent. Bargain if he manages to bounce back fully next season. Good thing about being a Wings fan... we're blessed to not really have any bad contracts. A team that can be fixed with tweaks is nice. I went with 2-3m. The low end of that (2-2.2m) with his play this last season and the upper end of that if he significantly improves next season. Broken 16 381 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 1-2 He just doesn't bring enough of anything else besides offense, and he barely brings any of that. It would be nice if he was worth 3-4 cuz maybe we could get a decent body in a trade. But nobody is gonna want an undersized powerplay specialist that can be easily rattled in the playoffs. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 I already know I will catch flak for this, but I voted $3m+. This is not a statement saying Holland should go out and pay him that much; however, Hudler's performance relative to other forwards in the league would rank him just above the $3m mark in value. He scored as a top-six forward (top 180 forwards) despite playing less ES/PP than others with comparable numbers or even lower. It's plainly clear how skilled Hudler is. Also fact is that the cap could be raising to between 62.2 and 64.4. So a player who is worth $3m in 2011-12 is only worth between $2.767m and $2.865m this past season. Matches up nicely with Hudler's salary, and the fact that he was felt to have underperformed a bit; Hudler was supposed to be a UFA right now, and if you assume his past two seasons to make up for the performance in 09-10, he would likely get a deal well clear of $3m. And while Hudler is only a secondary player on the Wings, it's been pretty much the consensus here that he would produce far more on a top line on another team. And isn't that what value is all about? 2 Shaman and Uncle Danny reacted to this
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 His previous season with the WIngs, 3mil+. This season, 1-2mil. I averaged the two and went with 2-3mil. He'll either play like he did this past season or he'll play like a 3mil+ player this coming season. I'm hoping for the latter so he can at least bring in a high end player come the trade deadline. 1 LeftWinger reacted to this

Wombat 26 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 He probably makes about what he should make within the context of NHL salaries and production. The problem though, is that he doesn't have a good role on the Wings team. What he brings to the table isn't anything special... other players do what he does on the Wings, only they do it better. A team that could use a 2nd line skill guy would be a much better fit.
Dimaline312000 51 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 I'd say no more than $1 Mil. I look at how he played in 08 in the playoffs and how he played this past season, now I know age can be a factor along with other things but I don't feel he's worth any more than just a million. Even that could be used to go after a better player. He's been good but he hasn't played I don't think up to his ability. I think there are a lot of things the Wings are going to have to look at this off-season and they have to decide who is going to fit on this roster to make a team that can make a much more solid run at the Cup next season. This coming season could be a real test for the Wings and Hudler may or may not be a part of this picture. I just want to see my team do well with the very best players they can get. If Hudler is one of those players than fine but he hasn't really reflected it this past season so I don't see him being worth a whole lot.
LeftWinger 5,129 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 (edited) As much as I despise him, I am not gonna say he has no worth, so I voted $1M-$2M. If he was making $1.2M then I could probably put up with his awful play a little more, but I still wouldn't like him on this team... (I wonder who gave him the ONE vote for $3M+....hmmmm....) Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted June 4, 2011 (edited) Oh... I'd say about tree fiddy. Wait! You gave him tree-fiddy worth of a contract? He tricked me!!! And it's about that time that I noticed that Mr. Holland wasn't Mr. Holland at all, he was infact that God Damn Loch Ness monster! He's worth somewhere between what LGW values him and the outrageous value Eva puts on him. He's all offense and no defense or skating, and he sucked offensively this past season.
