No. I think the Euro games was the worst of it. 3 hours ago, Troy McClure said: got the girls consent on video. I saw that in a movie once. I accidentally turned to the wrong channel. 2 hours ago, Troy McClure said: The creepiest part is player #1 in the lawsuit (whom internet detectives have determined is more than likely Dillon Dube) planned and organized the whole thing. Including wrangling the other players, seeking out the women, and getting the consent of the girl videotaped. He was even rejected earlier in the night by other girls whom he approached and asked them to fool around with his teammates. Dube is the gang bang boss. Definitely a team building exercise. 2 hours ago, Motor City Mullets said: An anagram for Dillon Dube would be Dildo Lube (minus the 'n')... Why would you even figure this out? It's basically Kuzmenko + high 2nd + cond 4th + Brzustewcz Kuzmenko reminds me of Nikolai Zherdev. Fantastic offensive ability, but a blackhole outside of that. The 32nd overall could very well end up being nothing. Brusttewwicz is the real piece I like. But that could dud out too. I think this is a pretty fair trade for a guy like Lindholm. Calgary just needs at least one of the 3 main pieces to hit to make it worth while.

kipwinger 8,756 Report post Posted February 2, 2024 Anybody else aware of (and completely annoyed by) these fashion stories - disguised as hockey stories - that keep popping up in media outlets? The Athletic is running an "All-Star Weekend Style Rankings" article right now which basically just shows pictures of NHL players looking idiotic on a red carpet. I literally JUST care about the hockey part, which is why I subscribed to (what I thought) was a sports media company. An article about the clothes that hockey players wear is still a fashion story. Similarly a story about a doctor that molests gymnasts is a sexual assault story, not a gymnastics story. Me: I love sports, I think I'll pay $9.99 per month to get the most in-depth coverage of the leagues and players I'm most entertained by. The Athletic: Thanks for the money, here's a story about breast cancer. 1 13dangledangle reacted to this

kipwinger 8,756 Report post Posted February 5, 2024 (edited) Here's why I subscribed to the Athletic. Prior to the existence of that website you were limited (with respect to free content) to the Detroit sports media (Mlive, Freep, Detroit News) and the blogs (Malik Report, Winging It in Motown). The first three were lazy. They came out with the same stories on the same days, all of it based on whatever was said in the post game press conferences or whatever big event was taking place. Three times a day with "Larkin gets his 100th" and so on. Alternatively you could read the blogs, but Malik is captain copy and paste and Winging it in Motown were snarky, new age, analytics are everything, types. They were famous for the "Brendan Smith is That Damn Good" article I've referenced from time to time. So The Athletic was an improvement (at first). Dedicated sports writers doing in-depth coverage of the team I like. I'd pay for that. And it started pretty good too. Craig Custance was the Red Wings writer and on his worst day he's about 2000% more competent than Ansar Khan or Helene St. James. I don't even mind Max Bultman now. His coverage of Detroit's prospects is really really good. But I have a few problems with the company overall. I've already said I hate all the non-sports stories (disguised as sports stories) that they run. But I also don't like how they all act like a big fraternity. They're all pals so when one guy comes out with a model that says Gostisbehere is better than Seider (because...analytics?) the other writers don't ever call bullsh*t. Likewise, if one guy (Scott Wheeler) says the Wings had a bad draft because they didn't take a tiny, flashy, winger (Gabe Perreault) nobody calls him out on it when that winger sucks and the dude they took turns into a stud. Finally, I really, REALLY, don't like how snarky they are when interacting with their readers. I KNOW the readers are obnoxious. I KNOW they're reactionary dipsh*ts who can't think their way out of a cardboard box. But as a company driven by subscriptions, it's inexcusable that you'd go on a podcast and basically say "my model says what it says and if fans don't agree they're dumb". Certain writers do it ALL THE TIME. It's just really really bad form. Edited February 5, 2024 by kipwinger

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 6, 2024 (edited) So I've been thinking about this playoff race. https://www.nhl.com/standings/2024-02-06/wildcard We're not finishing above the Leafs. F*** the Leafs, they're stupid - but they're a proven regular season team and they'll finish 3rd in the Atlantic or take the first wildcard spot. Godless assholes. The Bolts probably finish above us. They're on the decline, and I'd like our chances against them in a best-of-seven - but Vasilevskiy's back and they've been on a tear of late. They probably finish 3rd in the Atlantic or take the first wildcard spot. (I don't like these words I'm saying, but I'm trying to be objective here.) So it's us against the rest of the bubble. The Pens could be a serious problem. But the Flyers have lost five straight and Hart's played his last game for them. So if the Pens take 3rd in the Metro and kick the Flyers down into the trenches with us, we're ok, provided the Flyers truly have hit the wall. I'm guessing they have. I'm counting on the Caps cratering; they're being held together by gravity and nose candy. The Isles kinda suck. But then, so do we. The early returns on their hoped-for New Coach Boost don't seem great, though they did beat the Leafs in regulation last night. I rate them as a threat. They don't scare me. But the math says they're a threat. The Devils, I dunno. They suck when Hughes is injured, and Hughes is always injured, and they've been dealing with other injuries too and also bad goaltending. Maybe they're gonna collapse. But I have a hard time convincing myself of that. There's a lot of talent on that team. Excluding the Pens (if they hold down 3rd in the Metro and the Flyers are done), I rate the Devils as our most serious competition. All of this is subject to change. And the assumpetion is we take care of our own business and keep winning. Which isn't a given. Edited February 7, 2024 by Dabura

It could happen and definitely be the worst case scenario at the 50 game pole. Laughs to 3rd in Atlantic which matches to your thought Pens would jump to 3rd in Metro once again matching above NJ/Washington both would be a point behind us for WC2 Philly down 2 to us So even in the worst case scenario we are sitting pretty good I think the 5 games after the break will really help to determine our fate. Nucks @ home Oil away Nucks away Flames away Kraken away No games are back to back on the trip. Oh how I wish we could have eeked out 4 more points in December but happy to be here. Going to enjoy the ride it's been a long time since I was scanning the standings every other day. 1 Dabura reacted to this
kipwinger 8,756 Report post Posted February 6, 2024 I think the big thing that would derail us is injuries. If either of Seider or Larkin were injured that would end our season. Outside of that I think we've got a few things going for us. First, we're about to get Kane, Husso, and Chiarot back and all of those additions should only help us. Second, every team below us in the standings is just as flawed as we are and it's extremely hard to make up points. Third, we have enough assets to make deadline additions that improve the team substantially. We (maybe) need a better backup goalie, a difference maker on defense, and maybe another winger. We've got enough assets to address two of the three. Given our lead in the standings and likelihood of improving the roster over the coming weeks I think we're in the driver's seat. Unless we can add and extend someone like Hanafin I really don't see use adding at the deadline. We have an NHL ready F and D in the AHL, we have an excess of the middling depth defenseman teams usually acquire and 3 goalies. If anything we may trim the heard for assets Reimer for a 6th/7th, Ghost for a 2nd, maybe a late 1st with retention. Losing those guys isn't going to hurt since we already have adequate replacements on hand. The last thing we need is to spend assests to add UFAs that will play at most 2 playoff rounds; or possibly 1 or 0 playoff rounds.

Also, I presume anyone we traded for would have to be interested in signing an extension (like Debrincat did). It's worth noting that both the guys we've been rumored to have interest in (Chychrun and Vatrano) both have term left on their deals.

Not really much available in goalies. If the Kings miss, which it's looking like they will with PLD being trash, Kopitar being gassed, and the recent coach firing... best option I think is Talbot. Only a $1 mil cap hit too. Just waive Reimer (35+ contract, but I don't care). Otherwise, maybe Kaapo Kahkonen with SJS? His numbers probably shoot up on a decent team, he's still young, and could be re-signed in the offseason. Only options worth it at D, IMO, are swapping Maata for Hanafin or Chychrun.
