It's a grinding effort in that it's guys without much experience and guys playing bigger minutes hanging on for dear life. Grinding out wins, often in ugly fashion. Look at the roster they had, especially the second half of the season. This team should not be in the playoffs. I just think it's overreacting for people to blame Babcock. He was the hero a week ago, and rightly so. This team didn't get here just because Nyquist got crazy hot. Now that a young Red Wings roster without Zetterberg, Ericssson, Alfredsson, and with a less than 100% Datsyuk is looking bad against the Presidents Trophy winner and Cup favorite in the East, people are calling for his head again. We did though. We really did. If Nyquist had even 80% of the production he actually put up down the stretch we don't make the playoffs. That's it. I'm calling for his head because the single most productive line we've had all season long has yet to play one single second together, and the same if true of a kid line that night in and night out scored consistently against top six competition...in some cases against the very team we're playing now. Those are the two best three man units that we can muster. And they have not played together. So either Babs is ******* up, or else there's some super good reason to not play his best lines and only Babs knows it (because he's so smart). In which case, where are the result of what is obviously such a great coaching move? He's treating this team like it's Team Canada and he can win a game 1-0 because he's got the best defense and goalies ever assembled. It's not. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Unless you want the three old goats to take their places. Holland is the one who's let this team deteriorate like this. Obviously, the kids aren't ready for playoff action (sure seemed like it last year). i agree that it's hard to imagine but weiss is a good hockey player when healthy....datsyuk is also not healthy right now. There are deals to be made if you try hard enough, I just feel like our guy ain't tryin' that hard.... Problem is, he doesn't actually want to make a deal. If Weiss were healthy, Legwand wouldn't be in Detroit. Those two aren't much different at this point. Datsyuk isn't healthy because he's frequently not healthy. His age is also a problem. Lidstrom, Rafalski, Chelli all had accurate passes that enabled our forwards to move with speed. Our current defense has trouble with pressure, and consistently turns the puck over in the neutral zone.
