PGregory 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 I am a long-time Wings fan from St. Louis. I will be visiting Detroit to attend the March 22nd game. I will most definitely be in Wings gear, but a friend who is attending wants to wear her St. Louis Blues jersey. I have never been to The Joe before and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the atmosphere will be like for her. Honestly, she asked if she shouldn't wear it for fear of aggressive fans. Any warnings?
vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 I think we have more to fear from St. Louis fans than the other way around! She should be fine.

Any warnings? Just tell her to celebrate appropriately. I have a friend who's a Leafs fan, who decided to be a Jets fan for the night. Apparently, screaming "Go Jets Go!" repeatedly can bother some Red Wings fans... who would have thought?

Wheelchairsuperhero 1,453 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) I've sat by a few Avs fans before and no one bothered them. Though they were pretty annoying themselves. I think she'd be fine. Always wear your gear when going into enemy territory! Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted January 6, 2015 Unlike some places around the league who have fanbases that aren't confident in themselves and their place in hockey history, and without 50 hanging banners. they get envious and envy leads to ugly. Enjoy the cathedral and all it has to offer. 2 Gordie Howe hat trick and TheXym reacted to this

Always wear your gear when going into enemy territory! I was at the last Colorado game and sitting in front of a bunch of Avs fans. They got chirped pretty bad, but they made it clear they were game. Then again the chirpers were also drunk out of their minds and spent most of the game yelling "Go Leafs!!" It was definitely out of the norm, though. Wings fans are really respectful from what I've seen. Definitely wouldn't worry about wearing another team's jersey.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 If anyone asks why you're with a Blues fan, tell them you just claimed her off of waivers and her new uniform isn't ready yet. They'll have a laugh, you'll have a laugh, and then you can all enjoy the game. 4 RedWingfaninCO, Gordie Howe hat trick, TheXym and 1 other reacted to this
Euro_Twins 4,485 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Should be fine. I usually shoot the s*** with opposing fans on the tunnel bus or during games, I've seen them get chirped a bit but that's expected, she won't be aggressively harassed or anything

jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 I got into a full on fist fight with a Toronto fan because I didn't like the look of the baby in her arms. And were all this crazy. kliq 3,763 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 I’ve never seen anyone get hassled in Detroit the way it can be in other cities. The worst she will get is when she is walking up the aisle someone may yell "Blues suck!" but with a smile on their face. To contrast that, my 21 year old female cousin was at a NYR game wearing a Pens jersey, and some idiot stood up and yelled at her "Get out of here you *****!!" with an angry look on his face. Detroit is NOTHING like that.

vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted January 7, 2015 You've gone too far! Traitor!! Turn in your Jersey and alcohol please. By "shared with" she meant "stole from." There really are no issues between fanbases at the Joe. Not even with Toronto fans, who have become increasingly annoying lately for some reason. Flyers fans are, by and large, assholes when they come to the Joe for some reason. I love talking to other teams fans and have had overall great experiences with them. I've only ever seen 1 Wings fan be an ass without provocation, and once I said something to him, him stopped. The best advice for anyone going anywhere is to just be respectful. Cheer on your team, but don't be a troll. 3 F.Michael, frankgrimes and BottleOfSmoke reacted to this

Best advice I think if you are r espectful and know that this is enemy territory all should be fine. Wear whatever you want and have a great time sadly the Joe won't there much longer I envy you wish I could go there seeing a game before the bulldozers are coming. Toronto fans are the most annoying just because the sheer volume of them that show up to the Joe.But in all honesty, they're still some of the nicest people, I was sitting in front of a few Toronto fans a few seasons ago and a guy accidentally spilled a small bit of beer on my girlfriend so he got up, got napkins and brought us two rounds each. He apologized like nine times and it really was an accident. And his wife was one of the sweetest women. She gave me some tums, And an aspirin, she was only in her early thirties but acted like a mother. Its probably just because I'm so devastatingly handsome, ha. Honestly aside from a few drunken idiots, I've never seen any wings fan give another fan reason to worry. And even the drunk guys were put in check by other wings fans... It may be Detroit, but wings fans tend to be pretty classy people. Edited January 7, 2015 by jimmyemeryhunter 1 Gordie Howe hat trick reacted to this

Oh, I have no doubt your "make George Clooney and Johnny Depp jealous" looks had her swooning, but sorry, no. I go to almost every Leafs game in town and they've gotten progressively more snotty. Used to be the absolute best fans - I even commented to a Leafs fan once while we were waiting to get in how much I enjoyed the Leafs fans at the Joe. Both games they were, as a whole, so and so's. Yeah, that's right. I said it. So and so's. Maybe they're just tired of losing, I don't know, but not a single one offered me a TimBit. Not one. TONS of them in my section last game - ragged on the team, the city, fans, the whole nine yards. I was surprised. Thought maybe they were incognito Philly fans.
