sum1 27 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 why did the wings make a trade for marek zidlicky, he does nothing but makes mistakes and should not be able to put on a wings jersey ever again. Mistake after mistake he adds nothing to the wings organization, if anything he takes away!! get rid of him!!
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 Because he shoots right handed, is old and is a Euro. Yeah, he can move the puck, but has too many weaknesses. A lot of teams haven't felt sorry for letting him go.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 He was a solid addition at first, but he's been a disaster in the playoffs. It's unbelievable how bad of luck Holland has with trades and free agency. Even when he seemingly does something right, it has a tendency of blowing up in his face. 2 Frozen-Man and The Greek reacted to this
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 Really looked like a good piece when we picked him up, helped the power play. In the playoffs though, he's been a train-wreck. Which is surprising, because I figured as a veteran he'd pick up his game. I don't see him coming back, unless we win Game 7 and he turns things around against Montreal, but that's a lot of what ifs. Mistake after mistake he adds nothing to the wings organization, if anything he takes away!! get rid of him!! Moral of the story is do not sign role players over the age of 35...they either get hurt or are too slow. Does anybody think Zidlicky is performing better than Kindl would...or Marchenko...or Oullette...
PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 We made the playoffs by 2 or 3 points. he was good for us down the stretch. He even had at game winning goal (his first game I think). Maybe we don't make the playoffs without his 11pts. in 21 gp. He definitely added something in the regular season. He has been pretty bad in this series, though. In the interest of level assessment - he did save a goal in game 1 when Petr was caught behind the net and he took a penalty out front. In retrospect, that is an important play now. Other that he hasn't done a whole lot that I've noticed to be positive. If Babcock put in Kindl or Oulette I wouldn't think it a mistake. Not sure who would take over the 2nd powerplay unit though. Isn't it refreshing to have the kneejerk, post-loss thread not be about goaltending? 1 number9 reacted to this
kylee 727 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 Zidlicky has been woefully bad this series. He was good for about 2 weeks when we traded for him.
MabusIncarnate 5,359 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 He was at the time one of the better right handed defenders available for cheap. He has a heavy shot from the point, he spent some time in a defensively responsible New Jersey organization and it seemed like a good fit. At the time I agreed with the move, and even though he has been weak in the playoffs, I don't really regret it even to this point. Tonight he made noticeable mistakes, and this round hasn't been a good performance from him, but we are 3-3, not out and there's time to bounce back. Sometimes the vet players work out, sometimes they don't. For what he contributed in the season up to this point in the playoffs, calling for his head is a bit hasty. Let's see how the series finishes out. 3 haroldsnepsts, Namingway and Frozen-Man reacted to this
kipwinger 8,754 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 Funny thing is, if he scores a goal next game everybody here will immediately change their tune. Such is the nature of LGW hate. Zidlicky isn't great, but he's not as bad as must of you are making him out to be either. Look at the scores in this series. It's not like ANY of our players are getting absolutely exposed out there. Did people think that we were going to win every game via a shutout? Tampa Bay has the best offense in the league, in part, by having the depth to score against third line defenders. It happens. 1 Frozen-Man reacted to this

Hossa4Life 4 Report post Posted April 28, 2015 I could argue that Dekeyser is playing worse. If i see him get burned past for one more breakaway I might lose my mind 1 wings7 reacted to this

What's frustrating about Zidlicky is that the one thing he's supposed to be of most help on the power play, and he hasn't just been lackluster on the power play, he's flat out hurt the power play on numerous occasions in the playoffs. I don't think he's been as awful as some say either, but he certainly hasn't been anything close to good.

A guy that can move the puck and shoot, but can't play defense and turns pucks over. He was acquired to do EXACTLY what you just described. Not to be a stalwart defender. I really haven't been too upset with the defense in this series. Sure, some have played better than others, and not surprisingly the guys higher in the depth chart have tended to be better than the ones lower in the depth chart. But overall, it's about what I expected. Tampa has an insanely high powered offense. They're going to score goals. Mostly against our more mistake prone/weaker defensemen. This series won't be won or lost on the back of Marek Zidlicky's play.
