Or hell, maybe she just wants to stay in the place that's been her home for a decade. Where her kids grew up, and her friends live, and she feels comfortable?

I don't think there's a ton of use speculating about the desires of Mike Babcock's wife. Especially since, unlike her husband, we know jack squat about her as a person.

Jesus. I just watched the video in the link. He was trying really hard to hold back his tears. I feel terrible for Babs, he really took the loss to his heart it seems like. In 10 years, I've never seem him that let down.

He must have really meant it when he said "I think this is the best team we've had since 2009".

Those two injuries are most concerning to play with imo. The rest of them are not too bad to deal with if you're playing. Can't believe Abby and Glendening played with broken finger and torn tendon....tough guys.

I've played with a broken toe once and that was no picnic. Ericsson's play was concerning in the playoffs. If it was due to an injury, that is reassuring.

Ericsson did step up his game in the last few I think. I bet it was terrible to do his job moving players from in front of the net with a broken toe

I am not sure what the rich person area of Detroit is like but my uneducated uninformed guess is same as a couple other posters earlier. Wife wants to move somewhere cooler (not temperature wise) and Babs wants to stay.

Zetterberg lives around Birmingham and it's pretty damn nice. Datsyuk also has a really nice place in one of the suburbs. I'm not at all sure where Babs lives but I assume one of the nicer suburbs as well. A lot of the 2002 players lived in Northville area which was nice as well (30 min from Detroit)

The problem is the weather and roads here are just god awful. Social life here is meh.

Aside from all that though, if you're from here, you have an attachment. Babs sort of said it too in the interview. His kids have roots to this place. No matter how sh*** Detroit is, home is home. As for the Babcock wife/husband combo, they may not feel the same way about it.

The suburbs of Detroit are some of the most affluent in the country. And downtown is WAY nicer than it was 10 years ago. It's on the uptick for sure.

Plus, 3-5 million (or whatever Babs will get) goes a lot further in Michigan than it does in California. Just food for thought.

If I recall correctly, Babcock bought Osgood's old house. Micheal (his son) played for the Fargo Force and they have Northville listed as his hometown.

Ok that makes sense. That's actually my hometown area. (Plymouth/Canton - Northville-Novi). That's a very calm and family oriented place. Northville/Novi social life is actually pretty damn good too, probably the best in Michigan next to Royal Oak or Ann Arbor.

Downtown is on the rise but it's been taking a while. The Red Wings arena should help as well.

Very interesting comments from Babcock, very passionate - especially about the next generation. That's basically the challenge going forward - how good will Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan and Dekeyser be? They are the next generation, the guys that will take over the driving of the bus. Will the continue to be good complimentary players or will they step up to be The Guy?

I just hope that the next time some of these young guys return to the "locker", their pads are a bit bigger and the jersey size is a bit larger. Some of them need to bulk up and get some muscle tone. Only takes some time for the league to figure out that it's easy to squeeze a player out of his space. (cough cough Nyquist)

nyquist is too small. he's the guy i would trade and he has plenty of value, especially in a more elaborate package.

i'd do a huge splash with the leafs. phaneuf/jvr for nyquist, smith, weiss and a pick. i'm giving the pick because while jvr and nyquist score about the same currently, jvr is big and can hit the dirty spots. by them taking weiss we'll take all of phaneuf's cap hit.

sort of reminds me of the shanahan deal. that leaves us searching for a second line centre still. sheahan isn't offensive enough yet to take on that role. i'd have him as the 3rd line centre instead. if sheahan is the 2nd line centre then this...

Eh there are tons of small players who make it work, Johnson isn't exactly a giant and he was easily the best player of our series against Tampa.

Nyquist can make it work but he has a lot of work to do to figure it out.

Him being a better all around player. I don't understand all the flack he's getting I thought he was one of our better players these playoffs. There's more to his game than just points. He's developing as a good playmaker and his defensive game is getting better and better. I think the franchise views him as the more valuable asset as well. Tatar was the most disappointing player these playoffs for me

To be honest, I didn't think any player was truly that bad these playoffs. Just nobody was truly great, or stepped it up as a hero
