kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted June 24, 2017 1 hour ago, krsmith17 said: That's fine, and I don't think a single person is saying that Rasmussen is a bad player, just that he was a bad pick at 9 with the players that were left on the board. If you want a big guy that can bang in rebounds, pick him in the later rounds. Hell, I would have been okay if we picked Rasmussen after trading back to the mid round, without Vilardi and others on the board, and picking up another 2nd. With a top 10 pick (the first one in a quarter century) we should have taken the most skilled player available. Rasmussen was not close to that in my opinion. According to their opinion he is. And they run the team. That's my entire point.

amato 3,210 Report post Posted June 24, 2017 Re: Kotkansalo "In 47 games with the Stampede, he collected a goal and 12 points. While with Finland’s U20 team, he scored two goals and added four helpers in just 13 games. In both cases, he racked up a fair amount of penalty minutes, but that comes with a player who isn’t afraid to throw his body around and play a physical game. Kotkansalo will join Boston University next season as he’s committed to their collegiate program." im all for a physical game. Seems like a solid pick. And BU is one of the best colleges we could hope our prospects go to. 2 krsmith17 and derblaueClaus reacted to this
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted June 24, 2017 So based on what I'm reading the reason he was ranked so slow was because of injuries. Apparently he's more of a top 50 talent, which is more reassuring. 3 amato, krsmith17 and derblaueClaus reacted to this
derblaueClaus 1,668 Report post Posted June 24, 2017 From Future Considerations : Quote “A two-way, reliable defender with some offensive upside. He has the sting ability and hockey sense to close gaps extremely well. Backwards skating and balance are both very strong and he gets involved on both sides of the puck. He handles and controls the puck well, displays high-end vision and his first pass is on target. He moves the puck efficiently and quickly in his passing game and finds his target even under pressure…He’s just a reliable two-way guy who could develop into a strong offensive contributor at the next level.” Sounds like a solid pick. 1 amato reacted to this

Keep Your Stick On the Ice 67 Report post Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) Im still pulling for LeftWinger's mom #DreamBig Scouting Report: Drives hard, also a known agitator, but never absent from the play – enjoys throwing the body around. A good set of hands loves to demonstrate strong stick-handling skills and has a heavy right-hander. Which is impressive for 6’7” at 350 lbs. Premier locker room talent. Weaknesses: Needs to work on follow through without the puck. Off-ice behavior and poor decision-making is often questionable due to lack of maturity. kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted June 24, 2017 58 minutes ago, BringBack19 said: If you think the head coach bears no responsibility for hiring assistants or has a hand in the power play you're wrong. You make a shallow argument and then double down to defend Holland and Co. quite comical to be honest. Would I have liked Vilardi, yes but as you said there are some serious question marks with him. What about Suzuki, Necas, Tippett, or Liljegren? All are better 5v5, just as good on the power play, and omg they actually have a primary assist. I think KRsmith hits the nail on the head. It's not that we don't need a pp specialist, just not at 9 with better prospects on the board. I hope I am 100% wrong and he develops into a great player for us. And you've falling into your own trap since you decided to use this as your argument. Torchetti who is our current coach and is repsonsible for our PP used to coach the Minnesota PP the season before. They brought him in for the 2015-16 season. Their PP before he came in was an abysmall 27th in the league. When he came in it shot up to 15th in the league. Torchetti comes to the Red Wings and takes over from Ferschweiler (our previous PP coach) and the PP doesn't improve. Fact of the matter is with the losses of Lidstrom, decline of Datsyuk and even Zetterberg, loss of Franzen our PP doesn't have the same man power. It was good in 2015 when Nyquist showed up and scored like 14 or something ridiculous PP goals, because guess what, he was a PP specialist that could. I'll tell you what sweetie, since this pick is so bad, lets make a bet. Lets see just how elite Viliardi, Tippet, Lijegren turn out to be. I say none will amount to anything more special than Rams. Why am I this confident? Because the top picks aren't even that good dude. This is a WEAK draft and we're picking from a bunch of WEAK options. So relax. derblaueClaus 1,668 Report post Posted June 24, 2017 2 minutes ago, amato said: Or a RW.. Lane Zablocki to the wings @ 79. Ranked 52 by Central Scouting. And he played Center, don't know why he is listed as a RW. Quote Overall, Zablocki put up 54 points (and 28 goals) in 64 games this past season. He was basically a jack-of-all-trades in two different markets, working anywhere from the first line to the checking line depending on circumstances. He could kill penalties or work on the power play as well. While Zablocki isn’t overly flashy, he gets the job done and has rather quietly put himself in the midst of the draft picture. His playing style and versatility could see him project as a strong complementary player in the NHL, similar to somebody like Paul Byron who has played up and down the lineup in both Calgary and Montreal.
