Thanks for posting this Dabs, I didnt get to watch.

This is the exact type player I love and want in the lineup. Absolutely fearless. His attitude is not "dont bother hitting; im small" its "i better hit harder cause im small"

Put this boy in, waive Sproul

A fair victory for the Toronto Maple Leafs they were the best team out there. Matthews has grown physically bigger in my eyes, he will be sore thumb for our team for over a decade. Coupled with Nylander it gets scary. They outplayed and outmuscled our first line comfortably and that will worsen for each year. Pain & misery ahead.

On a positive note Howard looked good. I still like our goaltending pair. Zetterberg looked slow and rusty but he's Z - he'll be the point leader on this team at years end, for whatever that matters.

I would love to see Dekeseyer off the top 4 this year. I believe he’s the common denominator here with the struggling defense combos. He is just so bad with the puck I don’t want him being a minutes leader on this team

I agree with this DK sucks. Hasn't been good since he was paired with Quincey years ago.

Green - Daley

He’s always shoe horned into the top 4 because he ‘looks’ like he should be a good defensemen. Big and mobile. I’m pretty confident sticking anyone that can actually move the puck in his spot would benefit the team far greater than signing FA’s like Daley and Green to play with him and move the puck for him. Every partner he’s had has done better without him. Jensen comes in and outplays him instantly and the organization thought he was a career AHLer. Even Ericsson is stronger along the boards and has a much better pass when he’s not on stand by mode

Thomas McCollum on waiver today, Pretty much guarantee that Jared Coreau will be put on waivers tomorrow.

He's a career AHLer just like Coreau, Can't see any one claiming him.

While I don't mean to defend DD - his play (as well as his fellow Dmen) has deteriorated since Blashill, and Co. came to town.

I'm not so sure. Brenden Smith was doing ok, Jensen did good, Kronwall and Ericsson just got old. I think DK is just overrated in general. He has terrible aim for a slap shot, he gets juked out a lot of times and for his size he's pretty weak too.

I think hes a lot like Smith. Never lived up to the hype. Just doesnt add a lot to this team. Feels like a placeholder

Leafs score. 1-0.

Running theme throughout our preseason: we're not defending the middle/slot nearly well enough. It's been a thing regardless of who's in the lineup. Absentmindedness (leaving men unattended), passivity (not clearing the crease, not forcing men to work and battle for their positioning in our kitchen), plain stupidity (not marking trailers on opposition rush opportunities, in turn giving the trailer literally half of our zone to work with and an open lane to our net).

Rasmussen! PP goal.

Four goals in five games for Rasmussen.

He's doing better than Larkin did in his first training camp/preseason. Technically he should get the main roster spot.

But he won't

If memory serves, Holland had wanted Larkin to start that season in Grand Rapids. Larkin made the team because Blashill went to bat for him and told Holland he deserved a spot. Based on what Blashill's said about Rasmussen to the media, he's not prepared to go to bat for him like he did with Larkin. They want him playing center and getting tons of minutes. If he were to play center for the Wings, he'd be behind Zetterberg, Larkin, Nielsen. Which might not be a big deal, except Blashill's stated that he wants to give lines 1-3 lots of minutes each and use the fourth line relatively sparingly. And I'm not necessarily opposed to that plan.

My heart wants Rasmussen up with the big club this season, but my head says no. I'm not sure it'd be the best thing for him. We're probably gonna suck, he probably wouldn't see many minutes, and ultimately it'd likely be a waste of one of his ELC years, which could come back to haunt us.

It was also Larkin's second season after being drafted. Larkin was 19 years old, coming off a season of college hockey. Rasmussen is 18 years old, coming off his second season of junior hockey (much weaker league).
