If it was a rule in the nhl the refs would be given no discretion. The fact that you have to securely do the chin strap back up when you put the helmet back on is the worst part, this rule could seriously handicap a team at the wrong time
Which is why it's better that it's in the AHL before it would come to the NHL. Let them work out the bugs so the NHL officials can f*** it up in new and interesting ways.
Tyler Myers can go right out the window. They want a ridiculous amount for him (heard 4 starters and a high round pick) and honestly he's not that good. He's just tall.
Byfuglien is an interesting option. He fills a lot of holes on our backend (size, toughness, and a righty). Seems like a better trade partner than BUF who is in our division.
Don't know much about Petry.
I don't want to imagine Big Buff filling any holes on my backend. Immature and sleep deprived is not a good combination.
What? All I'm saying is that we have a lot of pressure back there sometimes and he can be the one to relieve it. Sure, there might be some boil-over from the other D-man he's playing with, but they just need to bear down, keep it loose, and be prepared to go long and deep.... into the post-season.
Wow, it's amazing to think just because we didn't sign an over priced UFA (the Niskanen deal is horrible), people think we have a bad team. We're good, and going to have a better season with guys healthy and our young players a year older. Boston, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, so far, are worse then last year, and Buffalo and Florida still suck!
The problem is Lidstrom has been retired for years, and was on the verge for years before that. Coupled with the loses of Rafi and Stuart, the team's defense has been a train wreck for a long time no with Holland doing exactly nothing to address that. And what has he done to address the imminent decline and lose of Z and D? These guys aren't spring chickens and are both becoming yearly threats to spend lengthy stints on the IR. Is there anyone in the Wings organization that, even if they reach the peak of their realistic ceiling, replace them? The answer is no. Z and D could and will turn into the next unfilled voids on Hollands CV.
Why the hell wouldn't you want to make the playoffs? This isn't pre-lockout days where unless you had the hottest goalie in the history of the game did you even have a hope of causing an upset.
LA were the number 6 seed in the west this year. 2 years before that they were the number 8 seed. The Devils were the 6 seed that year vs the kings. In 09-10 the Flyers were the number 7 seed in the East and they made the Finals.
The point I'm making is, if you're roster is good enough to make the playoffs right now, why blow it up, because as we've seen, anything can happen. If you looked at the Rangers roster before the season began, and even after they traded for St Louis, would you still have picked them to beat Pittsburgh?
This team is good enough to make the playoffs. And if anyone thinks that making the playoffs even if only to play 5 games is less valuable for the young kids experience than missing them completely, then you want your head testing.
Last season, there were a few mistakes early that were costing us, and then the injury bug hit like Ive never seen. You cannot lose key players for extended periods like that an expect to keep competing, yet somehow we did. All of that experience is frankly, invaluable, such that when Pavel and hank come back healthy they'll be able to lead the way, and our kids last year will be able to provide depth and secondary scoring that every team needs to win.
There will be ups and downs, but this team is trending up. The fact that we didn't sign a big name free agent on 1 day of the year doesn't mean otherwise.
This is bunk. Detroit is nothing like LA. LA is built to grind teams out over 7 games. Detroit is built to keep the DMC in business the next few years.
I don't disagree with the premise of that article, but Ryan Lambert has bashed the Wings at every opportunity for years. He's a Blackhawks slappy that somehow got a job pretending to be an objective writer for Yahoo. I knew who had written that article just by reading the part posted without even opening the link.
Lambert is a clown. Helene St. James never finds anything wrong with the Red Wings and Lambert never sees anything right. Both are hacks.
Problem is that this article hit a bit too close to home for my tastes...
