#2638482 11/20 GDT : Los Angeles Kings at Red Wings, 7:30 EST

Larkin is a remarkable player... he's got "it" -- the hockey sense, intangible X-factor.  We are incredibly fortunate to have this kid in a winged wheel.

Lol. Howard has had one bad game this year and people go nuts. Mrazek has had more bad games than Jimmy, but they'veboth been pretty Danny good and carrying the team. I'll give the guy some slack, rough night Jimmy shake it off, and come back stronger

For context's sake.  Jon Cooper was 5-8-3 in his first 16 NHL games.  It takes a second for new coaches to find their groove with the team.  Can we maybe give it af****** minute?

Who else got super excited to see pav on ice during player introduction?

#2628750 Dylan Larkin on opening night roster

Posted by kickazz on 07 October 2015 - 02:20 PM

What if Larkin stays entire season on the roster and wins rookie of the year. :)

Goals.
I want to see how he plays with Z and Abby. I have a good feeling about it. Catiously optimistic.

Think about this folks..

Our top prospect and potential future captain is on the starting line with elite player and CURRENT captain and possible future hall of famer.

The story is really epic the more i think about it.

Seriously. LGW should be in full rejoicing mode.

How many times have people called for inserting our top prospect onto the top or 2nd line, and it never happens.

Well it's happening now.

#2628746 Dylan Larkin on opening night roster

Posted by PavelValerievichDatsyuk on 07 October 2015 - 02:03 PM

I'm not opposed to Larkin playing with the Wings this season, I'm just not a fan of him being handed the spot out of training camp, without spending any time down in the minors (aside from the six games last playoffs). If he started the season down in Grand Rapids, and was tearing s*** up, then by all means, give him a shot up with the Wings. However, with him making the roster out of camp, if he plays as well as management, media and fans think he will, I don't think he should be sent back down again, even when Datsyuk returns. To me, that would be poor management. You give the kid a shot based on a solid training camp, when he probably should have started in the minors, then he proves himself in real games, and you send him down then? Doesn't look good in my opinion. That's when Holland should be forced to make some tough decisions, and clean up this roster a little bit. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I do believe there is such thing as too much depth... We have too many players, and not enough roster spots...

He earned the spot. With his play in the preseason, in GR playoffs last year, College, Worlds, World Juniors, Prospect camp. Excelled everywhere. No player's had that resume of success coming in. GR is for getting ready for the NHL - not a prison that you have to do your time. Guy has worked his ass off and played probably the more hockey last year than anyone his age. Quit college for the opportunity to play with us as soon as possible. He wasn't handed a spot!

I'm sure he will be sent down and that will good for his development. If the deal is that he skipped the AHL, he didn't - he played those 6 playoff games last year. He stepped in playoff levels of play and did great - so we have seen what he can do at that level. You could think of this as his first call-up that just happens to be at the beginning of the year.

We've sent down plenty of players after they played great for us and proven themselves in real games. Mrazek, Nyquist...

I think this is exciting and I don't see the negative angle. Only wish Jurco was in, but honestly Larkin looked better than Jurco and Pulkkinen in the preseason.

What is the point of the league not maximizing the amount of eyeballs that can watch the game? I can certainly understand this game not being televised nationally, but why not at least in the two markets involved?

Are you kidding? Jurco was one of the better players in that game against Chicago. He was a huge reason for 2 of the 3 goals that Tatar scored. On the first one he drove the middle, allowing Tatar and Sheahan to cross, and continued to the net, doing exactly what he needs to do for that line. On Tatar's third goal, he dug the puck out of the corner, and gave it to Richards which started the breakout for the eventual empty netter. He also drew two penalties by providing speed and keeping his feet moving. What exactly did Franzen do in his first game to get his opportunity on that line?... I'm not saying he was bad, but Jurco was really good with them, why change it?

Because it is pre season and Blash is new to head coaching some of these guys and he wants to see for himself who has chemistry with who?

Let me reinforce the word preseason and it is considered practice

#2602696 At What Point Does Holland Deserve Blame?

Posted by BottleOfSmoke on 28 April 2015 - 11:48 AM

I was purely asking when does Holland get blamed for his bad moves.

It's clear he doesn't get any blame for any bad moves. He can do no wrong in Detroit.

I honestly had to check your profile to see if you were new here after reading these statements. When does Holland get blamed for his bad moves? The answer, around here anyway, is ALL THE TIME. Constantly. It inevitably leaks into 90% of our threads along with Jimmy sucking and Babs being an incompetent coach. He gets absolutely *dragged* if he so much as farts in the same room players are in because it negatively affects air quality and makes them play worse. Yours are not new sentiments, and frankly it is refreshing seeing the level-headed, rational responses.

Bottom line: Holland, like all humans ever everywhere, has made some mistakes. Some absolute stinkers. Should we replace him with someone better? Sure, I'm all about improvement. Who should we court that is clearly a better GM than Holland?

*crickets*

Some of this stuff is just ridiculous lol ... Did I agree with every move holland ever made? Nope ... Hated giving up janmark ... Said from day 1 weiss would be a bust , didn't like resigning again and again samuelsson cleary and bertuzzi

But to blame holland for such of the stupidities I read?

Not preparing for lidstrom's departure? He tried to sign ryan suter and it didn't work , short of that wtf you want him to do? Nobody is gonna trade away a weber or Keith etc... We have to hope we develop one or wait for one to actually be a ufa and target them like everyone else will

Taking a shot at nyquist? Short of us never having drafted nyquist wtf do you want holland to do? And without nyquist's goal production we Wouldnt even be in the playoffs

Overall Taking digs at holland is just nonsense .... Nobody is just giving away there best players

#2602651 At What Point Does Holland Deserve Blame?

Posted by kipwinger on 28 April 2015 - 10:22 AM

Only on LGW does a GM "deserve blame" for building an almost entirely homegrown roster, making the playoffs for the zillionth time in a row, and being poised to upset a better team in the first round.

The only thing Ken Holland hasn't done is play/coach the actual game itself.

Has he made some mistakes over the years?  Sure.  Have those mistakes seriously inhibited our chances of being competitive?  The results certainly suggest otherwise.

Or is he supposed to make no mistakes whatsoever?

#2577575 Red Wings acquire Marek Zidlicky from NJ for Cond. 2016 3rd Round Pick

Posted by Carman on 02 March 2015 - 01:38 PM

Yep, we've got our two 35+ year olds. We're good.

Like that matters. We are a young team right now.

07-08 We had 2 40+ year olds and 7 other 35+ year olds and won the cup.

Right now our team has 5 35+ year olds. With the Cole, Zidlicky addition.

What are you going to be negative about next so I can refute that too?
