I'm at a complete loss for words..thats one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

Does anyone feel like I do at this point and would rather them just cancel the whole season than force a deal and we get stuck with some mid rate 50 game season?  Ask NBA fans what the quality of games were like in a 66 game season last year.

Simply put, without the fans there wouldn't be an NHL and neither the owners or the players would be making the money they do. without the fans, there is no game to save.

i spend probably close to a $1,000 a year on tickets, merchandise, nhl center ice, etc. In return, i expect that the players are out there on the ice playing to their best abilities.

Take the winter classic for example, there are people from all over the world coming to this event who have already spent a lot of their hard earned money in travel and for hotels to come and watch these guys play. and all of that might be for nothing because millionaires and billionaires can't decide how to split up "our" money.

when it comes to a new cba, as a paying fan, i expect both sides to work their asses off and get a deal done, but neither side has shown any willingness to put aside their pride and egos to get a new deal done

Our money? Once you buy that jersey or pay for a ticket that money is no longer yours..it is the owners ..when you buy a chocolate bar is it your concern what the guy who owns the 7-11 does or how he spends the money?

Also this fallacy that Bettman is responsible for the lockout is so stupid..he answers to the owners for the 100th time..they tell him they aren't happy and want to lockout the players and it's his job as head of the league and rep of the owners to break the bad news and get the blood on his hands.  I don't like the guy for a lot of the things he has done but this is solely on the owners and players and how they want to deal with it.

Some of the stuff he said was refreshing to hear..some was just dumb as s***.  Opinions are like assholes and to be honest this has just turned into a never ending loop of people blowing smoke up other peoples asses.  The lockout 8 years ago was brought about because of billionaire owners complaining about escalating salaries and huge operating costs.  New CBA was done and everything seemed good until they started to find loopholes and raising the cap every year ( i know it was based on revenue).  Put a salary cap in place and make it stick for 5-10 years and then re entertain the idea of it going up or down.  As Jimmy D said the owners WILL NOT lose in this process and it wont be the Shea Webers and Zach Parises who will be anxious to get back to work..it will be the Paul Bisonette's and the Drew Miller's who will start to miss their pay cheques in the near future.  Players are greedy but the owners are greedier...you don't get to be billionaires by giving in to people.  It's a fine line between being greedy and making shrewd smart business moves.  I'll enjoy watching my local WHL team play while these d bags figure out how to stroke each others egos some more.

And we wonder why there is a potential lockout on the horizon.  This guy has played 1 full season in the show.  He has 53 career goals.. I know he's only 23 but cmon..4.5 million.  Nothing and I mean nothing was learned from the first lockout. If anything it's gotten worse..they keep pumping up the cap ( I know it's based on revenue) and guys like this keep getting these ridiculous contracts.  He will score 18 goals next year and this contract will be a complete abortion that the Habs will be stuck with.

What would be more frustrating for him is he knew that Holland wasn't putting any effort in..he clearly is and teams don't want to deal with us.  It's pretty cut and dry

I stil say we hold the trump card in Filppula when it comes to acquiring Ryan... I still think Howson is an idiot, but I guess he doesn't want Franzine either...do you blame him?

BTW, to Holland this off season, for attemtpting everthing we've been complaining about him NOT doing the last 4-5 years... He is trying...

Personally I would rather see Ryan here anyways..right handed shot..3 years younger...5.1 cap hit opposed to the 7.8 of Nash.  Ryan would be my 1st choice via trade..then Semin, Doan, Nash. I was pumped about the idea of getting Nash at one point but Howson is out of his skull it sounds like.

I mean, I completely understand that the fanbase can be discontent with the way this offseason has gone and the fact that the DRW are simply not as reliable as they used to be being a locked elite team.

But come on now, that's the way the NHL has gone since the lockout, and frankly, that's sports in general. I have to agree with the old bit that we are spoiled as DRW fans these past two decades. With salary caps, long term contracts, and the sport even changing in itself, it's just extremely difficult to keep a first place team on the ice year after year. I am just as unhappy to say this is the roster the squad has moving forward, but it is what it is. We're talking about Kenny Holland and the Detroit Red Wings here. He's not going to just pull the trigger on some drawn up deal that took a few minutes to think up. He is going to do what is best for the organization in the long run and do what he can in the short run. He has proven that. He has fudged up as of late, sure. But the cards are stacked against you right now. You can't win them all.

Parody has taught us you don't need a dream team to win in all. The Wings aren't set up to win the President's Trophy next year. They will roll with what they got and if they have a terrible year, so be it. Maybe a wake call and finishing 12th in the Conference will be a wake up call to everyone in this town to cherish what we have had these past twenty years.

Nobody is a lock anyomore, an 8th seed just won the cup by knocking out the top 3 seeds on their way.  Home ice advantage is completely overrated.  Just make the playoffs is the motto now a days.

No way this team finishes 12th..end of story. Its going to be a great divisional race in the central which will only help us get better.

It will completely tilt me if he signs a 1 year deal..the reason we were shying away from him is because he apparently wanted a multi year deal..I would take him on a 1 year deal for sure.

And now the Wings miss the playoffs for the first time in 21 years. I feel like Holland dropped the ball.

Dropped the ball? Are you serious? He made huge long term offers to both guys, It sounds like Parise was never coming here and Suter made a decision to go elsewhere...how is that dropping the ball?  We are not talking about 5 time norris trophy winners or 50 goal scorers here.  Very good players Holland made more then fair offers to.  It's called free agency for a reason..these guys have a free choice to go where ever they want.

I agree, sometimes the best moves you make are the ones you don't.  I would have loved to have him but 13 yrs at 7.5 per for a guy who really hasn't done anything in this yet.

Exactly..whether you think this kid is a bit of a ****** or not he can choose wherever he wants to go, the system is built that way.  Makes me laugh how people around here think we are entitled to some of these guys. Schultz didnt say he was coming here..Parise has never said he's coming here and Suter has never said he's coming here.  I hope we get 1 or both of them but I won't be crushed if we don't . Guys have their reasons to pick where they want to play.
