The Wings are down 3-0 in the series to the top team in the West and now the only way out is to essentially sweep the Sharks. But I'm not nervous about this task at all. In all three games I thought the Wings played sub-par and in all three games I thought the Sharks had some lucky breaks they were smart enough to capitalize on. In addition, whether you want to blame the refs, lazy play, or a combination of the two, the Wings have 24 penalties to San Jose's 14. Oddly enough the Wings have lost each game by a single goal, and in two of the three games the Wings carried a lead into the third period. That doesn't exactly scream 'being dominated' to me. Incidentally, out of all instances in history that I'm aware of when a team has fallen down 0-3, I feel this team has one of, if not the best opportunity to pull off an upset. Will they do it? Beats the hell out of me, but if they play like they are capable of playing, from Datsyuk down to Howard, for 60 minutes, I don't see anything that the Sharks possess that can stop them. Yeah this position sucks balls, but I'm not nervous about it. Actually I'm kind of excited. I suppose this is what happens when the Wings face elimination in four out of their past five series.

Osgood should have played more. We already had a playoff spot in the bag with more than a week to go, and we knew we weren't getting home ice. Instead of riding Howard to become a 5 seed (even though we didn't know who we were facing), Babcock should have looked at the big picture and seen that Howard would need some rest.

I completely agree with this in the goalie side of things. Babcock has made the team totally dependent on Howard the entire season, he pretty much refused to give Osgood a chance to play, one game here or there is no way to prove yourself. What would have happened if Howard was hurt and unable to play late in the season? They'd put Ozzie in and hope for the best but blame him if we didn't make the playoffs. I know that Osgood is doing a great job mentoring Howard and I'm sure it's appreciated, both of them know how important he is in that process. He's dealt with a lot of criticism and adversity over the years but doesn't let that shake him. Yes this is a team sport so the entire team is responsible for the terrible play of late, so we don't really know what would have happen if Ozzie was given more chances to play during the season. What's done is done for this season. It will be interesting to see what happens next season, I don't think Osgood wants to leave Detroit, but if he's not going to be played he deserves better than a season of watching the games from the locker room. I sure hope that he and Babcock can resolve whatever issues they are having with each other because this seem like it's more than just poor play. Osgood was never give a real chance to prove himself this season.

Doesn't matter, although the Joe holds soooo many great memories for me and the smell of old beer and the "great" bathrooms they have there, we definitely deserve a state of the art arena.
