The whole Chicago chanting "Detroit Sucks" all the time makes me think of the "rivalry" between brothers. The older one is obviously better and has done more with his life, and the smaller one is incredibly envious and tries to be like him. Meanwhile the younger brother thinks they're rivals and insults his brother behind his back all the time. Of course the older brother has no clue that they're supposed to be rivals, and just goes on with his life.

    July 1st...

Memo to Chicago Re: July 1. Just a samll reminder: birthday party going on in Canada on this date and most businesses will be closed. Try to get your contract offers out before that then. We wouldn't want to see someone be re-located to another position...again.

You mean actual hockey fans who understand hockey as opposed to the people on Chicago's board who have watched hockey for 2 years and scoff at the notion that the salary cap will affect the team? Troll fail.

He was brilliant in Grand Rapids. Much better than Kindl. Maybe you should watch a player before commenting on him, eh?

    July 1st...

I'm definitely excited for July 1. I know that the aforementioned goalies will be on the block, but who is going to take them? Thomas, Price, and Huet are all over-priced. I just can't see them actually getting moved based on what they're getting paid for how they've performed lately. Having said that, I guess a change of scenery can be nice (see: some Finnish dude) and there are always GM's out there who are ready to make stupid moves.

Doing that would eliminate their ability to attract any free agents in the future and would definitely put some heat on them in the future when dealing with other teams. Waiving perfectly healthy and relatively young previous big name FA signings to make cap room is not going to endear them to future FA talent. Furthermore, the NHLPA would likely make a stink. If this solution was as viable as people seem to think we wouldn't see so many bloated contracts sit around (see: Edmonton). The fact remains that waiving players is typically isolated to inexperienced or aging players who can't cut it anymore and need to be moved to the minors because they don't want to retire. Huet and Campbell are both perfectly healthy and neither is looking to retire any time soon. I don't buy this theory for a second. They may do it but they'll isolate themselves from the NHLPA community a great deal.

Well, that is easy to explain, this is basically another source of Hawks info because we here at LGW as well as our fans around the world, also known as The Red Wings Nation are the most Hockey knowledgeable fans in the world, so its no wonder you come here to learn stuff about your own team. You certainly aren't going to learn much about it hanging around the streets of Chicago and it's suburbs or talking with other "fans" like Jim Belushi and Vince Vaughn, who only show up to games when the team wins, where were they about 10 years ago? Same place you were I would imagine. But please, come, stay, pull up a chair, because next year when you are sans 5 of 6 of your important players, you will need to learn all you can here because odds are 3/4's of the fans that are celebrating right now wont even remember what icing is... Sure will be nice to see the like of Madden, Burish, Neimi, Ladd, Hjalmarsson & Eager amongst others playing somewhere else. Reports out of Toronto even suggesting Sharp and Versteeg may even be on the block, so you're gonna have a great team next season. But, hey, there's always the Bears, right? Hang in there, 50 years isn't that long to wait (again)

I know here on LGW we talk about hockey its amazing. And btw in order for him to be a hypocrite he would have to be posting on a Hawks forum. Nice try though.

I'm guessing this only made Pronger flash that annoying gap-toothed grin. I get that it's just a lighthearted quote from a guy who just won the Cup. Pronger doesn't fight much, but could still likely tune up Burish, who won't even be remembered in this league in 10 years. And as for the other discussion going on in this thread, to me there is a big difference between a hockey fan ripping on some player on an internet board, or even yelling it at a game, and a hockey player ripping on a fellow player while being interviewed on television. Without Pronger, the Flyers don't even make the playoffs, let alone the Cup finals. Without Burish, the Hawks... have a few less goals against?

LOL at a Hawks fan visiting a Red Wings forum the day after his team wins the Cup. Even when they win the Cup, they're more concerned with the Red Wings. Hawks fans are such a joke.

Do you see me calling players with far better hockey sense than me "the biggest idiot in the league" or talking s*** like I can beat someone up who I clearly can't? No? Then learn to take things in context. In comparison to Pronger, Burrish is a scrub player, and we all know that he would never challenge Pronger unless in the heat of adrenaline.

    - Chicago will win the division again. - 4 Central teams will make the playoffs showing we have the hardest and best division in all of hockey. - 4 Original 6 teams will make the playoffs. - One of Franzen/ Zetterberg/ Kronwall will miss more than half the season next season due to an injury. - Bettman will help facilitate a rule change, continue to allow the cap to rise and LGW will still complain about him. - Toy Story 3 will be sweet. - NHL 11 with CHL rights and teams is going to be the most played game next season. - The Lions will win 5 games.

    1) Versus and NBC will run more ads featuring Crosby lifting the Cup than Toews, sparking infinite anti-Crosby threads, and Carman's post count will triple as a result. 2) If we stay healthy, we have a realistic shot at winning the division, especially with the depth that Chicago is likely to lose due to their cap situation. 3) Tampa Bay will make the playoffs and upset a division winner in the first round. 4) Toronto will make the playoffs (that's right, I said it). 5) Either Crosby or Ovechkin will be injured and unable to play in the outdoor game, ruining Uncle Gary's grand scheme. 6) Canada will have to wait yet another year for a Cup winner. 7) Very few people will be happy about Holland's free agent moves. 8) One of this season's division winners in the West will finish out of the playoffs.

Cant wait to see Janik playing some minutes for us, maybe he can start to add back some of that grit we've been lacking. I hate seeing our guys getting molested and facewashed in our own crease...its embarrassing. Im figuring he'll play 20 games by season end.....with about 12-14 pts. that would be nice....and a few fights too. Im surprised that Tuzz is still in negotations....was hoping that they would tie up the loose ends a little quicker. I think he wants a little more money, just another couple 100k or so. WE NEED TO SIGN ABBY AND HELM!!! Its a must! Grit, speed, tenacity and non stop hustle...we need that bad. Eaves and Miller, I like em and I think they'll probably sign. Now whether or not we should keep one or both, or neither......eh, I dont know. As for Meech...its probably game over as far as the Wings are concerned, even though I liked him. Malts is gonna "Retire" and Ole.....Ole can play in GR. And thank god J-Will is gone....for the last time.

    Bobby Ryan

Ryan will take big bucks ($5,500,000 a season minimum unless you sell him on an ultra long term contract) to sign. If you get him to a contract Anaheim can't match you can expect the compensation in picks to be crippling. Now if Holland has magic hands and somehow works out a sub $4,500,000 contract that the Ducks can't match I'd have to mail him my first born. And if he does take that number there's even less than zero chance the Ducks don't match it.

    Fire sale in Chicago?

I'd take Versteeg or Hjmarlsson in a heartbeat. You're completely right, those 3 goals in 22 games were what really what put Chicago over the edge.

    Bertuzzi offered 2 year deal

I don't blame Bertuzzi for leaving so much as i do Brian Burke for being his medelling little self. (A man can't turn down that money and that term.) Bert could have had a satisfying and redeaming end to his career; a stable home with the Wings for his last five years, complete with a lap around The Igloo with The Stanley Cup. But Burke had to act as if he was showing some loyalty by throwing ridiculous $ at Bert that he knew would not ultimately stick, ultimately resulting in a one way ticket to the hinterlands of Calgary. Bertuzzi is definitely a bargain at this price, but you have to realize he cannot bang and wreck like he used to. You young guys have no idea what a bad back does to a man. Especially a big man like him. That guy has to summon courage and strength from the Gods just to get out of bed in the morning after a game. Obviously it has reached the point where it's almost unbearable or he would not have implied that it's not worth the pain to look for a new team and start over again, he'd rather just hang up the skates. The thought of putting himself through all that s*** just to make $1.5m for a year in Columbus then $1.2m in Toronto or something just isn't worth it. I really hope he gets to Hoist in The Winged Wheel.
