The NHL is looking for some new referees. It would seem as though you would fit their current profile of refs that they are using these days.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

I haven't noticed, no. But then again I'm blind. I lost both eyes to high sticks because I wasn't wearing a visor.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

Yes, I've played at fairly competitive levels as well. The amount of injuries I've seen from random pucks far and away outweigh any negativity that a visor would bring. To me there just isn't a good reason not to wear one if you are actually smart that it is.

Pointing out a freak injury involving a player wearing a visor makes about as much sense as pointing out a freak injury that occurs because someone was wearing a seat belt. I understand cages and visors are annoying and restrict vision, but they prevent many, many more injuries than they cause.

    Youngsters ditching the visors

Can't wait for someone to bump this thread when an injury to the face happens to someone. Hopefully not a Red Wing. Pleeeeeeeeease?

Totally shouldn't have counted, that was clearly a distinct kicking motion.

I love the GDTs we have...

That would be cool, if it wasn't for the Sharks.

    Jimmy Howard watch thread

Just because? Howard has been wildly inconsistent all year, with extended stretches of poor play. This is more noticeable because the Wings have been only average defensively, and have not been a team which can account for their goaltender's weaknesses and protect against them. If MacDonald plays a good number of the remaining games and looks great while Howard looks like crap, or if Ozzie comes back and looks great and Howard isn't getting it together, there's no reason Babcock "has" to start Howard. Starting a guy in the playoffs just because he's the guy you had intended to start way back when doesn't get you anywhere. In 1994, Bob Essensa was started in the playoffs despite the fact a rookie Osgood reclaimed the starting job and was playing more regular season games than Essensa - after having already won it from Cheveldae. You start the guy who is most likely to lead you to victory.

To which you respond, "Okay, but then again... Matt Cooke. That is all." If they somehow don't know who Matt Cooke is, which wouldn't be all that surprising even with all the notoriety, then I guess you could just bring up Hines Ward's reputation for being a dirty player and then say that those two are like two gutless peas in a sociopathic Pittsburgh pond.

The Joe's reaction to Modano's tying goal was one of the loudest I've ever heard come out of the venue!

I have more confidence in Joey Mac right now than I do with Howard. So I hope to get the point across Joey gets a few starts in a row.

Not to me. Shootout losses aren't real losses, they're silly. The main thing is, Detroit earned a point after being down 4-0 and looking dreadful.
  14. 1 point
At least they got a point after being down 4-0.

No we aren't allowed to say bad stuff about Howard.

Datsyuk needs to teach Helm how to snipe and turn him into a monster.

3/21 GDT: Penguins 5 at Red Wings 4 (SO)

It's great to see Modano get rewarded with a goal. He's been picking his spots well lately, and has come very close on a handful of occasions. Great to see him finally bury one of those chances.

If you're gonna fight, you take the risk of getting hurt. Its the player's choice. It should be the player's choice whether to wear a shield or not.

Well, obviously Crosby wasn't wearing a visor in his early days and look what it did to his face!!! It should be a warning to the others.

I'd have no problem with fighters taking off their helmets before a fight, but I'm not worried about their safety from fights as opposed to game play. And the extent of those injuries are what the visors are there for. I'd much rather have a .1%(made up statistic is made up) less chance to lose sight in an eye, then just being a "real hockey player" and not wearing one. You can choose when you want to fight, you can't choose if a stick or puck gets deflected. I'd much rather have a broken hand, then lose years of my career like Bryan Berard.

That's why I think there should be an additional minor for fighting with a visor on. I realize punching the side of a helmet hurts as well. I know you're not trying to start anything, and I'm not either. I just think it should be left to each individual player to decide whether he wants to wear a visor or not.

I ditched my cage... for a while. Then some moron turned and blindly fired a puck right at my face from his own corner and I wound up with 9 stitches in my cheekbone and a permanent strange tingling feeling in my right temple whenever I touch it. Point is, even if you do things right when you aren't wearing a visor, you can count on some other idiot screwing things up for you.
