The only way I see a trade like this happening is if Montreal grants Detroit permission to speak with Wisniewski's agent prior to July 1st (think Marian Hossa in 2009, though Detroit didn't trade him prior). If they have a deal in place and Detroit doesn't want to run the risk of another club offering bigger money and term clouding things you make that deal. That's it. The moves made today now makes Chicago a potential suitor (another tour there? meh), and the Montreal beat writer that first mentioned the Habs were shopping his rights replied to me via Twitter that he's heard on the draft floor that the Wild were interested in trading for Wisniewski's rights as well. There are plenty of suitors for Wisniewski -- and all the warm fuzzy "pls home HOME!!!1!" talk means less and less the more years and million(s) you attach to a contract. Make no mistake, if Wisniewski hits the open market I would be shocked if the Wings would have the highest offer on the table for him.

You did fine. As for my guess - the Wings trade the 3-2nd round picks for 6-3rd round picks, then in a stunner, they stand up, flip the draft table and declare "OUR TEAM IS GOOD ENOUGH!" and promptly exit the arena forgoing the rest of the draft for a shopping trip to Mall of America.

Simple reply - why not give up OUR late 2nd rd pick in a weak draft, as long as we can iron out a deal beforehand? Well worth it in my mind...

I can't think of anyone obtainable that I'd want from Montreal in place of Hudler. I'm okay with the 2nd pick if this draft class is really as weak as people are saying. We already have 2 now that we traded down with Ottawa.

I actually wouldn't mind Talbot at the right price. You classic team guy who is a playoff warrior and score some huge goals as we all know. I remember in the back 2 backs with the Pens that he was one of there most dangerous players. I know I will get flamed and negged hard for this but I would take Talbot over Eaves... I'm not afraid to admit it, both are similar players but like I said, Talbot is a playoff warrior...

Fact is, Holland and the brass have a winning formula that incorporates veteran players. The Red Wings have always won with a solid mix of vets in the lineup. Hence why all other teams' fans ridicule the Red Wings for being "too old". Yet, we've been the most successful team since employing this strategy. I'm not saying that Holland will for sure be signing Jagr. What I am saying, however, if Holland choses to sign him - I won't doubt the decision for one second. And until then, I won't bother speculating if Holland would be stupid or not to do so based on Jagr's age.

I really wasn't buying into the Jagr hype until now. He's older, he's going to want way too much money, and I really couldn't believe that he still had half of what he did in the 90's, then I watched this video: Fast Forward to about the 2:30 mark if you have any doubts. The guy is still a pure goal scorer with vision and hockey sense mirrored probably only by Datsyuk and Crosby among NHL players. Franzen could learn a thing or two.
