I am not sure where the misunderstanding came from, but Ryan Suter is from Madison, Wisconsin. He played two years in Ann Arbor, MI. for the US National Development Under 18 team and one yr for the Badgers before reporting to Nashville. He has never played youth hockey in Minnesota. And considering his time in Ann Arbor, and the lack of NHL in Wisconsin, signing in Detroit would be more of a homecoming than Minnesota. Edit: Wow, negged? So, ok, Minnesota will be a homecoming then, even though he has never played there or lived there...I plan on having a homecoming in Hawaii next week. Jack ass... -

Babcock and Holland want to keep Homer.
redwings4life and one other reacted to Echolalia for a post in a topic
This isn't just about being loyal to Homer, nor is it just about trying to get Lidstrom to re-sign. Parise and Suter (who came out and said the next team he plays for ideally will be his last) will be following this news if they're looking to see how they'll be treated at the end of their careers. If I'm Holland, Homer is getting a contract offer this year, because I want Parise and Suter, and any other potential long-term signing to see that we take care of our players. This is a trump card the Wings' brass has built up for years. This very well could be the year that we reap the benefits. Homer stays. -

Nah, not a biggie. I only complain when people neg for no reason. I would take 3000 negs if folks had the nuts enough to explain why they disagree. Whatever... It's just funny when people say Homer is too old and needs to go, they get a plus, then I agree and get a neg. Sure, maybe it bothers me more than it should, but if folks would say why, it would be nice. But, ya, I should know by now, they won't and it shouldn't bother me... -
1 pointYeah my fault, I made an inflammatory post topic... I had just never heard of the term "original" being used for the next 6 teams... oh, and I don't like Gary.

...And if history dictates the present decisions that the Sens make, they will not want to lose anymore Dmen or sign the wrong ones. Let's go over the list shall we: Chara, Volchenkov...can't remember the others off the top of my head so lets throw in some forwards with untimely departures: Hossa, Havlat, Heatley, Daigle just kidding around with this one. Point is, Lispy Murray has let a few good players go elsewhere and has s*** the bed since the start of the cup finals against the Ducks. Time to keep a couple good players around. -

I think you've exhausted your point with illogical references, its just digging and beating the dead horse at this point. Let's keep on track here. Getting Karlsson on this team would be close to impossible, considering the sudden success of the Sens due to his offensive explosion this season I don't see Ottawa letting him go anytime soon. With that said, props to the OP for posting up something original here, it's still May and i'm already beginning to get bored with all the Parise and Suter talk. July can't come soon enough. -

No, how bout you take some notes, sir. The Coyotes knew that Bryz wanted money above all else so they went with a cheaper option and traded him away for scraps. The Predators don't know if Suter will sign with them because Suter is looking for a contender first and foremost (he turned down a lucrative contract offer this season) and if the Predators are going to take themselves out of a month of one on one negotiation with him they are going to ask for a lot more. I don't think even Suter is going to warrant a high asking price as a UFA. -

Alcohol doesn't make you a different person it can just amplify certain traits and remove inhibitions. If you're a misogynist ******* when you're drunk it's not some kind of demonic possession... that s*** is just normally under the surface. "I was drunk" isn't carte blanche for douchebaggadry. All that being said... he isn't the only entitled douchebag in the Atlantic Division. A certain Boston forward from Halifax has been thrown out of his share of clubs for being an obnoxious dickbag (a family member of mine witnessed Brad Marchand's antics in a bar this summer after he won the Cup). -

Ya! Thanks for noticing! Anyhow, someone is just going thru and negging everything I say now. It's not because they disagree with me, I know this because someone gets pluses for list the top 10 things Holland will say and I simply reply, nice to meet you Mr. Holland and it gets a neg. No biggie. When their son grows up swallowing a sword, they at least will know why... -

Wow, lots of Homer love still I guess. At least by all the negs. Of course no one man enough to debate it.... Let me ask the negger, do you like the team you had last season? Sure they were 1st overall in February, but that was because of an anomaly. Think about this, they won an NHL record 23 straight home wins, yet still could not bury the rest of the league...why? Because they stunk on the road, their PP and PK stunk. Look how early the 2001-02 Wings put away the rest of the league and they didn't even sniff a 23 game win streak...If you can honestly tell us that this team, exactly like it was last season, is a Stanley Cup caliber team, then please, explain it to us, don't just neg and run. Of course, just like usual, you won't... edit: I did what I could to bring everyone back to plus. It's asinine to neg someone just because they think Homer should retire... -
1 pointCan someone please explain to me why Paul Gaustad is so highly though of around here? He doesn't score (7 goals, 14 assists), he doesn't fight (4 fights, 2 wins, 2 loses), he's not that big (6'5, 212 lbs), he's not fast, and he makes 2.5 million dollars. Presumably everyone wants him because he's a defensive forward who's good in the faceoff circle. We definitely don't have anybody like that...er...Justin Abdelkader: (8 goals, 14 assists), (6 fights, 2 wins, 4 loses), (6'1, 215 lbs.), is faster, makes 1.7 million less, and is a defensive forward who's respectable in the faceoff circle.

Patrick Kane at it again
hockeygirl8 gave a reaction for a post in a topic
Kane isn't the only player in the NHL to go to bars and get wasted. It has always been part of the culture of being an NHL hockey player. Most players handle it much better than Kane does. He never had a vet take him under his wing and show him the proper way of being a professional. Some young guys like Toews don't need the guidance but Kane does. The Hawks just let him get away with it because he is one of their stars. Much like the Tigers do with Cabrera. He's an alcoholic but who cares? He is our best player so just ignore it. -

The Senators can and will simply take Karlsson to salary arbitration if he does not accept their qualifying offer. As such, he will not be eligible to receive an offer sheet. Gagner scored 47 points last season, yes. 11 of those came in a two-game span, so let's just call it 36. Whatever the case, Gagner has not developed to the Oilers' expectations. He is inconsistent and frequently lazy. Furthermore, he is an RFA, and giving up picks for him (and he'd almost certainly cost at least $2.75m) would not be worth it. Too, the Oilers can simply take him to arbitration if they wish. On top of this, he doesn't score goals. He just had his best-ever goalscoring season in the NHL, and this was only 18 goals; and five of those game in a two-game span. And he's the same size as Hudler is. Radulov is a douchebag. There's no other way of putting it. And he, as with the other two, is an RFA, which would necessitate giving up picks. No thanks on both counts. I'd be wary of having this guy on the team even were he a UFA. -

I'm not particularly "offended" by this, and i'm not sure really what the rage is all about. He's not standing on a podium saying historically the original six is now the original twelve and throw the tradition of the original six out the window. He could call them part of "The First Expansion six" but that's just kind of dumb. If you want to get technical the Wings joined the league 15 years after Toronto and Boston, but neither of them are trying to claim they should be "The Original Two" or anything like that. St. Louis is one of the first 12 NHL teams, just like Vancouver and Buffalo are part of the original 14, and so on and so forth. He isn't claiming to change the historical original six to the original twelve, I think the quotation was taken very out of context if you read it again, all that's being stated here is St. Louis was one of the first 12 teams to join the NHL, which in fact they were. Guys I know it's the offseason and we are really bored, but come on. If I can be honest, they can market whatever they want, I remember growing up and there being a lot of speculation if there would even be an NHL in the future because of the lack of fan base and it was a struggling sport for a long time. Anything he does to improve the status of the sport, bring in more fans, and keep it afloat doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I don't even think it will go as far as a marketing scheme or anything like that. I think it was just a completely misinterpreted quotation from an article. Just because, here's a timeline of the NHL teams and when they entered the NHL. 1917- Montreal, Toronto 1924- Boston 1926- Chicago, NYR 1932- Detroit 1967 (Expansion)- Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Dallas (Minnesota and California) 1970- Vancouver, Buffalo 1972- NYI, Caroliona (Hartford),Calgary (Atlanta) 1974- Washington, New Jersey (Kansas City and Colorado) 1979- Colorado (Quebec), Edmonton, Phoenix (Winnipeg) 1991- San Jose 1992- Ottawa, Tampa Bay 1993- Anaheim, Florida 1998- Nashville 1999- Atlanta 2000- Minnesota, Columbus -

Calle Jarnkrok - Does he have a chance to make next season's team?
Rick D reacted to dat's sick for a post in a topic
I don't think I've ever heard a swedish player, or any player at all for that matter, say anything good about the life of playing in the AHL. It honestly sounds like a piece of s*** existance. There's a reason most european players who play in the AHL leave as soon as they realize they won't make the NHL, and honestly I think only a small part of that is the money. Järnkrok is just too good to have to 'pay his dues' or any BS like that. If he doesn't make the Wings next year, he'll stay in the SEL. I have not heard any reliable source say differently. And if he stays in the SEL, he'll be one of the league's biggest stars. Him and Silfverberg were tearing it up this season and are doing great so far in the WC. Silfverberg is guaranteed a place on the Senators next season. Järnkrok really isn't far behind him. Unless his development comes to a complete stop, after one more year in the SEL he'll be more than ready to take a 3rd line Center role for the Wings. -

I don't expect him to play in Grand Rapids. Either he tears it up at camp and forces his way into the lineup next year, or he plays one more year in Brynäs and comes right into the Wings lineup the year after. This kid is too good to rot away in the AHL. He should be a star in the SEL until he can become a star in the NHL. -
