4 pointsCue Kenny in 5,4,3,2,1..... We like our team. We felt the prices were too high so we didn't feel comfortable giving up more than we were prepared to. We have over 13 million in Cap space and we plan on keeping it. We plan to be aggressive at the trade deadline. We have an opportunity for growth from within our own young players. The Nyquist's, the Smith's, the Brunner's can make an impact for us this season. We believe we are still a Stanley Cup contender. There is not a whole lot separating first from last. There is so much parity. We are re-tooling on the fly as we do not deem it necessary to do a full re-build. We will explore the market and see what is out there and try to improve our hockey blub. It has to be the right fit. It has to make sense. We will not make a trade just for the sake of making a trade. It is not easy to improve your hockey club because no one wants to do us any favours.

I think Semin is out....Trade for Ryan, sign Doan, sign Kubina, wait on Q's hearing...shake rattle and roll... I hate to lose Flip, but for Ryan, yes! edit: Yes I am talking like its a done deal, because I have confidence that Holland will let loose his canon "balls" and do what needs to be done to usher this team into the next 20 years of dominance! Bobby Ryan this year, Getzlaf or Perry (or both) and Weber next year... -

all the naysayers on here are ending our season already? Holland isn't done... Doan is still there, there was just a report that Holland is in the hunt of Bobby Ryan, so it's not like we have sunk to the deepest depths of the Central division. I would say if Holland got Ryan, Doan and Kubina, other than Suter being better than most of our D, and honestly, I would put Kronwall right up there with him...Kronner had 37 points being on the 2nd pairing, Suter had 46 points on the 1st pairing...when it comes to hitting, Kronwall eats him up all day. I would give Suter the nod defensively, but other than that, pretty equal...except when it comes to pay... Parise actually had better centers in NJ. Koivu is really good, but there is only room for one leftwing on his line and Heatley will start bitching if he gets bumped off of it...he is the f***in allstar you know... It's not like I am saying they aren't any better, of course these two makes them tons better, but I think Parise scores less in Minny than he did in NJ...I could be wrong, but we will see. I am more afraid of the Blues (:puke: oh....excuse me that just snuck up on me) than I am of the Wild... They are not in the central so we won't see them as much as I'd like, but no, I am not afraid. As long as Holland isn't done. Ryan, Doan, Kubina and I think Holland is ready to roll... FORWARDS Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Bobby Ryan ($5.100m) Shane Doan ($5.750m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Damien Brunner ($1.350m) Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m) Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.500m) / Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m) Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / DEFENSEMEN Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Pavel Kubina ($3.000m) Kyle Quincey ($3.550m) / Ian White ($2.875m) Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,383,712; BONUSES: $462,500 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $4,816,288 It's not as pretty as having Parise and Suter on there, but it's still a very VERY good roster... -

Evander Kane is a Better Option than Zach Parise
stevkrause and one other gave a reaction for a post in a topic
There are two major flaws (well, there are far more than two, but I'll just list two anyway) with your idea: 1) It would make far more sense to simply trade for his rights, given that Kane has indicated an unwillingness to re-sign with the Jets. 2) Giving Kane 13 years at $6m per would be beyond ludicrous. Doing so AND giving up three draft picks in the process would carry the idea into the realm of complete brainlessness. -

After all the lauding and back slapping the fans, organization, and sports media have given the Wild since the Parise Suter acquisions I started to sit down and really think about how dangerous these moves really made them. Certainly all the reactionaries around the hockey world have already penciled them as one of the top teams in the west. But anymore, being a top team doesn't cut it, you have to be elite, and in my opinion...elite they aren't. Obviously building a roster is an evolutionary thing, and I'm certainly not claiming to know much about their prospects and young talent, but for what it's worth I can think of at least 5 teams in the West scarier than the Wild. San Jose and Chicago are better up front than Minny with as good or better defenses, but with worse goaltending. Vancouver and Los Angeles are better in every regard. St. Louis has a better defense and goaltending, but doesn't have the offensive punch. As for Nashville and Detroit...well, let's just wait and see on those. So here's my question, is anybody else not afraid of the big bad wolf? -

Ok, you said it "HE WOULD BE A SOLID SECOND CENTER..." that is what Anaheim wants in return...nobody is s***ting on Filppula. But you are not going to get Bobby Ryan for our 13-16th forwards in trade...geez! Anaheim wold not take Franzine from us...they want Filppula. Filppula almost guarantees Selanne returns for another year, he has said for awhile now he wants to play with Flip. Filppula is both our trump card and the key to this trade...I too would rather trade Franzine before Flip....or niether at all and just give them five 13th forwards for Ryan, but it doesn't work that way... Filppulla/Mursak/Tatar/Draft Pick should get it done. Great 2nd line center and two NHL ready prospects...we will not miss those two guys...first of all we'd have Bobby frickin Ryan and our stable is still full of younsters: Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen, Jurco, Frk, Sheahan, Sproul, Tvrdon, Athanasiou, Bodin, McKee...the future will be fine! -

Dear Mr. Holland: Forget about FA, trade for Yandle and Ryan

After this weekend Doan will have been given insight to the Yotes future - if he hits the market they are moving. And the Wings have expressed interest - and yes, Doans agent did contact Holland. It theres a guy I wouldnt be averse to overpaying 500k to a mill per year for its Doan because this motherf*cker competes every shift like its his last. His presence would be great in our room and if we inked him for 3 years I'd put an A on him (Z captain, Kronner, Dats, Doan assistants). This team goes from a fairly ho-hum group to a sure fire contender this year of we can sign Doan and Semin. Id like to sign a Kubina or Rosival to shore up or top 6 asap because Kindl IMO is never going to be better than a 7th dman. He is a weak skater and doesnt have to skill/brains/toughness to make up for it. ps. IF the Yotes are headed to Quebec - or folding, Yandle becomes easier to acquire by us. With us handing them their asses in 2 of their last 3 playoffs I think management would feel heat from their 14 person fanbase if they gave up their star dman for less than an unreal package. -

1 pointIf this is true I'm going to throw up. Now watch as Semin puts up great numbers because of the quality play of his centermen, just like James Neal did last year. Oh if only we had high quality centermen who could consistently improve the play of mid level wingers...oh wait...ugh.

I'm all for this guy, especially after seeing his performance last year in WPG and knocking out Matt Cooke. Not for the huge contract though. Whatever happened to a good 3-4 year contract? -

They needed Suter as much as we did. Their D is not exactly notable. That said, I have high hopes for them. I was talking to a Wild fan yesterday, and he was telling me that on July 4th once the news got out, they had to call in extra people to man the phones for season ticket sales. Will they be a top team? Not without better D. Will they make the playoffs? I think so. -

1 pointI love how when you read a topic like this on LGW the first like 20 posts are f*** Q, he sucks anyway, what an *******! Then as you read on and people have had some actual time to think before posting the first thing that popped into their head someones like "wait....maybe this was just a business decision by his agent, nothing personal" and then a little after that "wait...this could be good for us actually" LOL Q is probably going to get awarded something like 3.5 to 4 million (only $250,000 - $750,000 more than he would have got without the arb) and it takes him off the offer sheet market for other teams in a league that is desperate for D-men. THIS IS A WIN WIN. He get a little more dough and it stops a poop team from offering him 5 million in an offer sheet. I would be fine losing him on an offer sheet and taking the picks...but now that we lost Lids and Stuart and didnt land Suter we CANNOT afford to lose another d-man period. Arb was probably agreed to be valuable for both sides Abdelkader is a less desirable commodity and is expendable right now. If he filed for arb Holland could either say to him "f*** you we got tootoo, just go to UFA *****" or "we want you, just give us time to dump some forwards before we solidify a contract"....Abby will get fair money from Holland anyway.

i personally put alot of stock in the "hometown" and "family lives here" reasons. just think, most of us being metro-detroiters would play for the wings no matter what if we made the NHL. Thats what they did. Just childhood dreams coming to fruition. -
