What a career. Just brilliant hand-eye coordination and played his role in front of the crease better than anyone. I can't believe his body held up well enough as long as it did to continue playing. Truly a warrior and a major piece to the Red Wings having four championships. Thanks for the memories, Homer. Damn, I hate losing all of these guys that we have lately.

    Team Roll Call.

Tootoo is my favorite acquisition this year. Put Darren Helm's heart into a freight train's body and you have Tootoo. Players like Tootoo and Pronger and so-on are annoying as hell to play against, and they also play dirty, but they do so in a way that benefits the team they play for more often than not. When these guys are on their game, other teams take stupid penalties against them as retribution. They start forgetting about hockey, or their emotions make them do stupid stuff with the puck. Tootoo isn't going to be playing alongside a couple goons. He's going to be with Helm, or Miller, or Abdelkader, or Sammy, or Bert, and they are all capable of taking advantage of a distracted opponent. I think his presence will really help out our bottom six, both physically, and offensively.

My theory on Tootoo is better to be playing with him than against him 6 times a year.

For a guy who can't skate and slowly unlearned English during his hockey with Detroit, he had one hell of a career.

Canadian hockey fans - they mad!

No different to the Wings fans on these boards that react to playoff losses to the likes of Nashville and San Jose by asking their fans how many cups they've won.

I found this to be both amusing and sad. I was glad to see several Canadian fans denouncing the behavior of their fellow fans on the comments section of that page, but wow. Yes, hockey is Canada's game, and to some, that means that other nations aren't allowed to beat them at it. Please try to lose with some class rather than saying it doesn't count because the sport originated there.

In a playoff atmosphere 48 game season, I'm damn glad Tootoo will be running the other teams star players as opposed to Z and D. He'll grow on you, guaranteed.

I don't remember if this was posted yet, but here's a neat video by TSN the morning the lockout ended. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OPbuCwcB-k

If you only had a nickname spelling controversy, you would still be a legend here on LGW, Tomas. But you were oh so much more than that. I thank you for the memories and wish you farewell.

What I don't get is this sense of entitlement any fan of any team has. It's what made beating Canada all that much better. If the CFL starting developing players in the NFL and they had a tournament in which they beat the USA, I wouldn't go all ape-sh*t like some here have. Just because you may have created a sport doesn't mean you own it or that you're not allowed to be beaten at it. To those b*tching....Grow Up and stop making the rest of your fans look bad.

I know now though lol. Clearly since you are a woman that means you clearly want to hear me make derogatory comments. Maybe something along the lines of making a sandwich or something sexual... I agree with you 100% on your stance of not specifying gender, as soon as men on the internet find out they are talking to a woman they seem to suddenly become incapable of logical thought and assume that they are better than said woman and can say whatever disgusting thing they want.

Homer decided to retire after realizing that, after Nick retired, he has nobody to eat his ritual pre-game meal with. Poor guy. As usual, all the best to him and his family for his sacrifices to the team. Hope to see him back with the Wings in some capacity.

Does the stupid crease rule retire with him?

I am going to go with the simple fact that Daysuk's English is atrocious, seemingly having never made a solid effort to learn the language of the country he has been playing in for so long. A bit off-topic, and I love Datsyuk in general don't get me wrong, but I am slightly offended at his horrible English. I think if he had even passively tried to pick up English he would be fairly fluent by now, considering how long he has been here. It makes me think he must have made a conscious effort to avoid learning it, to still be so horrible... That... and he's older and would like to go back to Russia. We will presumably get a few more solid years of captaincy out of Z.

Thought I saw somewhere that Homer & the family were going to stay in the Detroit area once he's retired. I'm hoping he takes over Murph's job between the benches on FSD broadcasts.

One of my very favorite Wings, I will miss you, Homer. The goalies in the league celebrate the departure of your large red butt. I will never forget you scoring from every possible angle in 2002, all while falling down or sitting on your afore-mentioned rosy derriere. Best of everything, friend. Enjoy retirement and playing pick up hockey with Nick in Sweden.

I really had high hopes that this thread would be the OP calling out Red Wings names as if he was taking roll in school, and other posters would respond as if they were the Red Wings.... and nobody would respond when OP calls Franzen's name.

The lockout's over? I'm honestly having a hard time getting excited about it. I hope the Wings do well, because well.....that's the point, but my enthusiasm is almost completely non-existent.

Canadian hockey fans - they mad!

If I recall correctly, wasn't the goals scored in that game by NCAA players?

It's no different if Canada beat USA in the gold medal game. There is fans like that everywhere that would post ridiculous things like that, doesn't mean all Canadians think that way. I know most Toronto fans only care about the Men's Olympic team. I don't know anyone in Toronto that watches the Spengler or WC.
