I'm sorry but this is so typical. Team starts under-performing and now all of the sudden the coach needs to take a hike. This is classic fandom in the works. Babs makes one confusing move (Abby-Dats-Cleary) that the fans don't like and all of the sudden he needs to be replaced? Keep your heads on. For all we know Abby walked into his office and said: "I can be that next PWF if u'd let me", and Mike said: "Ok, this is a gap year, an experimentation year, lets see what you got." Gives him a shot in the top 6 and it didn't workout. Big whoop. Abby's still young somewhat young for hockey, doesn't hurt to experiment with your young guys. I'm not claiming to be anything special, but I swear half of LGW would be worse than Garth Snow.... but still, it's the only forum I come to

    Datsyuk Leaving?!

Taken at face value if someone had asked me if I thought Datsyuk would head back to Russia after his contract expires, at the age he'll be then (and the state of the team at the time), I'd strongly lean toward yes. Ultimately the state of the team is going to weigh heavily on that decision: if the team makes move(s) necessary to keep the team as a legitimate Stanley Cup contender the "loyalty" card to do something like Lidstrom's play-it-by-year contract re-signings seems to be a strong possibility. But the status quo of the last couple of seasons? Happy trails, Pavel, and enjoy the company of your daughter. Couldn't ask for more from him.

    Datsyuk Leaving?!

So basically, translation: I heard a rumor from someone, i'm going to call them credible. I asked them if I could say this rumor out loud and make a story on it. I'm going to get so many hits and my readers are going to love it because they think i'm telling the truth and honestly know what's going to happen from a year and a half from now. I understand I don't work for a credible website, as it's written by a bunch of fans, but my hits don't care about that, so good bye. Thanks for ignoring all logical reasoning and not seeing that what your friend tells you, may change down the road, as in life, anything can change. Also, if your buddy the credible source doesn't care if you use this information, why the hell wouldn't you tell us what connection he has with them? You could've even been vague, but no, you're just going to keep calling them a "credible or verified source"

Neither HockeyInsiderr or Eklund know what they're talking about. They just throw crap at the walls and hope it sticks. Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie are the guys to go to for rumors.

We need more of you around here. I seriously was so refreshed reading all of that, instead of this negative bulls*** that always follows a lost.

    Datsyuk Leaving?!

I would rather have that last year and a half with Datsyuk then ship him off for a few picks and some prospects. I wouldn't even want Perry in return for him, I want Datsyuk to only play for the wings, cause I am just that selfish. If we aren't a cup contender with Datsyuk, we won't be with perry either, so if we have to rebuild anyways I want to at least see Datsyuk in the winged wheel for another year, I would cry if he was on another nhl team

Would you rather they missed the playoffs all together? I don't see how that is beneficial to anyone. You can't win the tournament if you're not in it. In that case, maybe the Wings should just move to the A. That way we can at least play for the Cup. Oh, yeah, not that cup, the other one.

Among all the sky is falling talk (and not undeservedly so I might add) A thought hit me, "so when do we pull a rabbit out of our hat?" I mean after all we've done it for 20 plus years,....by blind luck almost we trip on, fall into or out right steal some guy, who becomes the guy for us and ensures this red wings train keeps rolling down the tracks. The divine intervention of the Detroit Red wings is well documented. We wanted Pat lafontaine in 83' but the islanders drafted him first,...we had to settle for some kid name Yzerman. In 89 we drafted the best player of the last 20 or so years and probably the second best D man of all time (i'd argue first, but what do I know) 53rd overall. The flames drafted a finn 3 picks up Veli-Pekka Kautonen. Heard of him? Nope me neither. We got Draper off the jets for a dollar We got murphy from T.O. and the leafs faithful laughed hard, until he became an integral part of our D corps. ' Homer, Datsyuk, Zetterberg ect. ect. We all know this stuff,..and yet the thing that really gets me about our team is how freaking resilient we are. We survived two extremely high value D men having their careers ended and came out no worse for wear. Quick,..you tell me what would happen to a team like the blackhawks if Duncan Keith (God Forbid) had an accident like that? We signed Uwe Krupp, we managed to lure Ozzie back (and win a cup with him for God's sake) after we kicked him to the curb,..... Time and time again, just when you think this team is toast, something completely magically happens that ensures your ability to wear the winged wheel proudly for another decade or so. I have no idea if we're out of magic beans. I couldn't tell you if we'll never challenge again or anything crazy like that. All I can go off is past experience and past experience tells me that this team will find away (and will probably do so at the expense of another team). When I guess on what that magic may be i'm left with an interesting thought, say we do miss the playoffs this year......Remember that new rule? The one that says any team that misses the playoffs is first pick eligible? Paging Tinkerbell,....we need more fairy dust,..... With the first round pick in the 2013 draft, the Detroit red wings select,............

Yeah. I don't really care about your philosophy about what things change in life. Little deep for me. I prefer to keep things a little simpler: someone credible told us something. We asked if we could post it. My readers are interested in it. We posted it. They read it and they're discussing it now. As for whether or not HF boards considers KK a "credible resource"? I care even less about that. Have a great night.

Not diggin' the amount of years. Was hoping for 4-5 instead of 6-7, but at least he's locked up. Also, if Flip's really asking for that much money then I'm afraid Holland will let him go. I hope Nyquist steps up in his place and Jarnkrok impresses next camp.

Got an example for that? Kukla's isn't even an investigative or direct reporting site. We're an aggregator with some commentary. Even at A2Y we've never claimed, not a single time, to have "broken" a story "here say" or not. It's not what we do.

    Datsyuk Leaving?!

I've been blogging for 8 years and I've never posted a thing trolling for hits. I wouldn't have cited and used this source unless we trusted them and it's relevant now because of realignment. It's particularly timely now because Datsyuk is being completely wasted by Mike Babcock. Yes, it is. And show me one example where Kukla's Korner has ever "broken" a story without merit. We haven't. We verified the source, double checked with them and went with it.

Possibly the biggest news story for one of the biggest hockey franchises ever is being broken by a fan blogger and not a legit news source? yeah, not buyin it.

Not that they wouldn't help, but they wouldn't help enough to matter. You don't give up picks and prospects for middle-aged players just to slightly increase your chances of making the playoffs or the 2nd round. Especially for guys who may leave in the summer.

I agree with you to an extent. There are definitely fewer sellers, but we're struggling now. If Holland is going to do something he's going to need to take advantage of the early market. As we get closer to the deadline the prices will increase, and we all know that KH is VERY reluctant to pay market value. Three weeks from now more players will be available, but the prices will be too rich for Holland's blood. Right, no room on this team for big, tough, shutdown defensemen who excel on the PK, or a young power forward on Datsyuk's wing. Good call.

    Datsyuk Leaving?!

I hate all this speculative bulls***! Sources close to me say I have a 12 foot dick! Slow news day and a Wings embarrassing loss is recipe for blogger boredom and knee jerk bs. So Dats wants to go out like Sanders BUT yet he will go to KHL for 3 years? And this source just decided to reveal this info last night. Please move this to the BS forum or at lease redundant rumour forum mods!

Happy to have a solid starting goalie, but 5m a season is a little rough. Would've liked to see it more closer to 4m but he certainly has stood on his head for us more than once. Gives us a fighting chance to win every night, is a workhorse and can take a load of games, and he's been improving every season.

But a defenseman doesn't score goals as often, so it's less exciting for the less knowledgeable fan. Sign more forwards!
