I like Fil and think this season was not indicative of what kind of player he usually is, but that kind of money and term would be crazy for him. If Datsyuk wasn't going to re-sign I would have considered giving Fil a good contract for him to stay as a backup-plan, but now he's expendable. With Nyquist/Tatar coming up and Järnkrok not far away either we have enough guys that can fill Fil's shoes.

You trying to troll us? lol That roster would induce meltdowns of epic proportions here on LGWs. No DeKeyser, Nyquist, Andersson, Tatar, or big UFA? The only good thing is thinking about a healthy Helm. Seriously though, I doubt Holland, even in his most frustrating times, would do this to us. Also, you'd have to lock up some of those kids in a basement to keep Babcock from opting to play them over guys like Cola and Tootoo, to name a couple.

Maybe he's just posturing in hopes of being talked down to 4 rather than being offered 3.5. Or maybe he's letting other teams know that he's available. In this year's market, he shouldn't have trouble finding a home for more money. Too bad. I like the guy.

I never really cared for The Joe ... not very accessible ... wheelchair seating sucks ... it needs to be like Nationwide Arena where I can see the entire ice surface from above, not one side or the other ... I would love Gordie Howe Arena, but today's world makes that pretty much impossible ...

I know a lot of people were mentioning the Nyquist/Andersson/Dekeyser/Lashoff journey, but how about the journey of Petr Mrazek. Watching him play it's tough to remember this is his first year pro. Seems like last year he was playing those games in the ECHL not this year. Dude had some unbelievable saves at the end of game 6.

Seeing the name "Sammy" on that roster almost makes me sick... What about Tatar? Isn't he out of minor league options?

Why are people worried about being further away from the ice? There isn't a bad seat at JLA, even at the very top. I've sat in dozens of spots there, from the 5th row from the ice to the absolute last row in the building. All sight lines are perfect. If you're worried about being too far from the action, how do you explain a football stadium? That's far higher up than any hockey arena.

I really like Filpulla and think his numbers don't really tell the story on the type of player he is, but there is no way in the world I'd go over 4, and I'm a huge fan of his game. I'm not going to flip out over rumors just yet, we all want to be paid, and there is a argument he is worth 5+ million the year before with his 60+ points and defensive prowess, it's not something I agree with, but he at least has had a season where his numbers would be deserving of it. I'd certainly let another team enjoy his game for that much though.

The article linked is also from Kukla's Korner. It's rumors and innuendo. It says Dreger "believes". Based on what? Talking to an agent, a Red Wings insider or just a wild guess? Would it surprise me if Filppula leaves? Not at all. But I'm not taking a regurgitated hockey rumor from a site who has been wrong before as fact as to what the terms Filppula is asking for.

I am very grateful that I made the trek several times to the Joe. There is literally nothing else like it, what special place! But I can see the benefits of the new venue and jobs brought in, etc., too. No stopping it, so I say embrace it, but never forget the magical place that was Joe Louis Arena.

Trade his rights to Anaheim so he can play a season with his idol... that is if he decides to come back

I love the Joe but its time. When I go with my pops we have to leave before the game ends so we don't get caught in the mosh pit to get out. He doesnt walk well enough anymore to handle that.

5.5, 7-8 years, no thanks he had ONE season worth that. Where does he get off trying to bully the organization that picked him 95th overall and took the time and money to develop him into a top 6 player? He should be content with signing a 1-2 year deal with the wings for 3.5-4 million and prove himself then.

Just my 2 cents: Part of the necessity for a new barn is the lack of high dollar corporate suites. The new arena will have mid-level boxes (think The Palace) that will pull those "visting suits" away from ice level. Also, with proper luxury boxes and club level the bulk of the increase in ticket prices will be absorbed by the big wigs. As far as decreased capacity goes, that's also a function of the mid-level boxes. To keep capacity at 20k fans would be a long distance from the ice.

Now please Holland, give him a winger that can put the puck in the net.
