Totally disappointed by this... Tatar needs to be in the lineup every night (same goes for Nyquist). Still just can't fathom why we would possibly re-sign Cleary (especially with all our roster/cap issues). Ridiculous...

If it is true it makes you wonder what the hell is going on with management now. This situation is stupid enough but to have a guy find out form the media that he's going on waivers? It's like the wheels are coming off.

If true, Holland lost a lot more points in my book than he already has over the last few years. It's one thing to struggle in free agency and replacing players, it's another to just be this lacking in class. And this is awful. I love Eaves. Injuries haven't helped him the last couple seasons, but the guy has a lot of fight in him and a fair amount of skill. It'll be a shame to see him go. But it's okay, we still have Samuellson, who we can't reasonably trade or waive. Good job, Holland. Keep up the good work, best GM in the league.

Its really disappointing because Eaves is a much more effective bottom 6 player than Cleary and Sammy. He is getting waived for Holland's idiocy.

Hey at least these guys can benefit from a winning atmosphere...in Grand Rapids. Sigh.

He got waived after practice. Maybe he didn't have his phone with him to get the message until after he showered. Still... you'd think if Holland couldn't be there personally, he'd have made sure that someone caught him before the press did.

Seriously this. Such a crappy thing to do to a guy who doesn't even deserve to be waived in the first place. Maybe he's just embarassed because he realizes this is all his own stupid fault. This is becoming beyond frustrating.

You make a good point, but I think this analogy is probably more apt: You can't understand why your friend dates the ugly fat chick. You get to know her and you find out that her personality is also polar to your friend', and is even occasionally abusive. She is extremely high maintenance and she is constantly guilting him into staying with her, despite the stress she brings to his life. You confront your friend and he makes some excuses, but you read between the lines and conclude that she is really awesome at sex; the best he has ever had. While she can never give your friend true happiness, he is content with putting up with the abuse so long as his member is getting serviced at professional levels. MEANWHILE: A young attractive, nice, but naive woman comes along. Your friend and her hit if off. But she was a virgin when they met and he becomes frustrated with teachering her. Despite being a better personality match, he continues to stay with the first girl despite the long term benefits of giving this new girl attention. ---------------- I hope this story comes off as funny not mean, 55fan. I really think you're point is valid. I think Babcock should be more open about his reasonings. There is no way he doesn't hear the outcry from fans; Cleary bashing has been going on for so long. If he can present a argument that does not involve his veteran status or statistics, I would listen.

Well, that is just s***ty. I was annoyed with Ken Holland before, and have been for some time, but this is the first time that I've started to just not like him. It's not just that it's s***ty to not tell the player, but the whole reason this is happening is because he's made so many blatantly awful signings. Then when a hard working guy with a great attitude is affected by it, you create a situation that allows him to find out he's getting waived by the press. That's just another s***ty thing to do after a slew of bad decisions.

Just heard and not happy they are letting him go; I am trying to refrain from screaming and spitting on my phone screen due to Cleary and Sammy being on this team. The bar has officially been lowered...

This is sad. He deserves to play, somewhere in the NHL, the kid is a warrior. Reminds me a young cleary.. you know when he could still skate and contribute.

I would venture to bet one of those three games you're including is the overtime loss against Tampa. Quincey turns the puck over behind the net, but Kindl was the one who inexplicably followed Quincey behind the net, leaving his man and the front of the net wide open for Purcell to bury the game winner. It took both of them to screw that one up completely. And you could just as easily argue that Kindl doesn't get PK time because the puck would end up in his own net so much. They've both been pretty awful. Together they're a nightmare. And the gap between them isn't nearly as big as you make it sound.

I was hoping no one would say these words. Because we said these same words last season, and even as recently as this past summer. And some of us even managed to convince ourselves that it was absolutely, positively going to happen. Because, how could it not?

I'm totally bummed. I love the guy's courage and his willingness to work. I hope he clears and can go to GR. That would mean I'd get to see him next week. So why the hell can't we kick Cleary's sorry ass to the curb? He should have NEVER changed his mind, and gone to Philly instead. He wouldn't be missed, believe me.

This entire post exactly. They both have every right to with how horribly Holland has mismanaged them thus far. Samuelsson and Cleary should've been waived, not Tootoo and Eaves.

All this for Dan Cleary and his 1 goal. Just like the Sammy signing we all saw this coming. Literally every single one of us. It's insane.

I am official annoyed with the cleary signing. Reason #1 is that he keeps Goose down and #2 is that he has played and Tatar scratched. I gave Kenny and Co. The benefit of the doubt however it seems he really did not have any plan to fit Cleary in here...

Sounds like Cleary is in for Tatar against Washington. I am not very happy with Babcock and Holland these days. Good luck to Patty! I hope he gets claimed and lights it up

Get rid of the shootout altogether, no point for losing in overtime, problem solved. Not sure why they refuse to go that route. Teams will play to win if they don't get anything. There's no reason to treat a loss in overtime as a half win
