I hope Babcock sticks around. I want to see Athanasiou and Mantha on the 4th line in two years and Glendenning Helm and Andersson in the top 6 playing realgud.

    Team next season?

They'd never trade Dekeyser after he chose Detroit over 29 other teams. He's Captain Michigan.

    Jordin Tootoo's Goal

That was a nice goal. I've been watching some Devils hockey since he went there. I can't believe that we couldn't find a place for him when he was here. He does much more than just pester and fight.

He should've done all that earlier, cheaper and with better players!

    Jordin Tootoo's Goal

As always, glad to see Tootoo doing well. He was a classy guy when he was here, and I'm happy to see him land on his feet. Hopefully this season's effort will earn him something a little bit more long term from the Devils. He probably wouldn't be a bad guy to have around during their rebuild. He's got the right attitude and the right work ethic. Probably isn't going to make a difference on the ice most nights, but could be a good locker room guy for the kids they'll be bringing in soon.

    Connor McDavid

That would be a disaster. Here Tampa, Chicago, Anaheim get even better. Sharp - Toews - Hossa Kane - Mcdavid - Saad Callahan - McDavid - Stamkos Kucherov - Johnson - Palat Yea... no thanks

    Dylan Larkin

Just not as slick with the finish, but faster. I'm really excited about him. I really one of Him and/or athanasiou turn out to be a top line center. Larkin sheahan athanasiou and glendenning down the middle could be realgud for us for a long time to come.

The coach doesn't have to worry about that it's the GM. A coach can only work with the roster he's been given by his GM. I mean Bowman also had the pleasure of working for - back tghen - by far best and most active GM in the game. A luxury Babs sadly doesn't have

    Connor McDavid

I've read somewhere that finishing last isn't about getting McDavid it's about the 100% security of getting Eichel, even the last placed team only has a 20 % chance of getting him but a 100 % chance to draft Eichel - for the last time because starting next year every player will be in the lottery so no more guaranteed picks. People can hate on the Sabres if they want but what they are doing is smart, Eichel won't be a player who needs 3 - 4 years in the minors at best it will be 1 year and he is going to kickstart their rebuild. At some point every team will need a top pick yes that even includes the Redwings...so the holier than you attitude doesn't fly here.

6-0 against Nashville, St. Louis and Chicago this season. Can't beat Montreal or Tampa Bay for anything, though. I think I'll still pass on those 10:30 start times.

Besides Kronwall you mean. Kronwall is very much undervalued by some people on this forum. He had an awesome game today by the way.

This should really put the whole "Howard can't keep us in a game" thing to rest.

Lets also not forget that Bowman had an infinite payroll to work with, the modern day coach has to worry about the cap.

If Babs had eleventy billion cups I'd cut him some slack too.

I agree with you on all those points. But I'm willing to send Blashill out just like we sent Yzerman, Nill, and a multitude of other coaches out. Why take on something unproven when you already have something great? I'm not gonna throw away a top 5 coach to gamble on a guy just cause he was successful in a lesser league. If Dave Lewis was our coach I'd partial, but he's not. Appreciate the brown nosing, but I don't know or like you back dude sorry. Where as I'd say he brings the perfect coaching balance to a team full of euros

But we are the wings...we don't like that uncivilized toughness. We like to drink our hot tea with our pinkies in the air.

The Futures of Tatar & Nyquist

I would say that I think Detroit will not be in that same situation is because Ken Holland will not let his salary cap get out of control again. Hudler left them once before for more money (to the KHL(which really soured me on him)) and then he was looking for top dollar again when he signed in Calgary. (by this time everyone wanted him gone so it was no big loss) So he was just looking for the biggest payday he could find. When Filppula left, the going rate for a 2nd line center was through the roof and Holland's plan for the rest of the team (I believe that was the same year he went balls out for Suter) didn't have any room left under the cap for that going rate. Holland will not let the cap control him again, he will contiue to grow his own talent, pay them accordingly and if the time comes where they are just looking for the payday and they no longer fit in the team cap structure, that is when he will lose them. BUT, by the time Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha and Larkin are all in their primes here, we will no longer have to contracts of Dats, Z, Weiss and Franzen. Plus the hopes that the Cap increases slightly every year will also help. By the time Ouellet, Sproul, Marchenko, Dekeyser are all in their prime, Kronner, Ericsson will be gone off the books or on their last small career contracts. Same goes for Mrazek, by the time he is ready for that elilte contract, s*** stain's contract will be off the books. I know Mrazek is a RFA soon, but I think he still has that one bridge contract he'll sign before his big one. Holland has enough young talent spread apart from each other to where he probably won't have to worry too much about having 5-6 stars making top dollar all at the same time. IMO, there are only two scenarios where he may lose ANY of his "kids." 1. They just don't want to be here, or 2. He trades them. Like I said, the reason's Hudler and Fil left were more to do with wanting (some say deserving) more money than Holland had available without crippling his team. Kenny will not let his cap get that close again.

    Jordin Tootoo's Goal

I think he would be great on the fourth line with Miller and Glendening, jurco on the third line and Andy out. Unfortunately Tootoo almost seemed to be trying too hard to fight on our team which in the end probably was his downfall

I believe in this season of ups and downs that we're just going through a serious slump. This team is capable of turning things around in time for the playoffs. We've seen them play great hockey where they can compete with the best in the league and it's not the first stretch of games they've looked like they couldn't possibly win a game without a huge amount of luck
