Quincey brings a physical element to this team. Imagine how soft the D would be without him. Also, don't count on him being gone after this year. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he signed an extension with the Wings.

If he was sent down, my understanding is the full amount would be offset by the cap relief if that was to happen. If he gets$1.5 million, then $575,000 would still be on the wings cap hit.

The wings get approx $925,000 salary cap relief if a player is sent down, anything below that amount no longer affects them, anything above does. If it's a two-way deal odds are his NHL salary is below that $925,000 threshold and would be offset by the cap relief. That's probably why many folks are OK with Andersson being waived (plus he'd likely clear).

And now a prime Dick Tarnstrom would be one of our better defensemen.

A two-way deal simply means a player receives a different salary at the AHL level than the NHL level. It has nothing to do with waivers. A one-way deal means the player is paid the NHL salary even if they are sent down.

    Pittsburgh: America's hockey capital? Lol

Pittsburgh is Steelers and Pirates territory. If the Pens aren't winning, they don't care about them. I remember being in Pitt for all-states in 2009 (coinciding with the start of the playoffs). My Zetterberg jersey got lots of dirty looks. When we went to a Pirates game (a 20-0 loss to the Brewers), the guy behind me started talking smack to me due to the Konstantinov jersey. My response was "If you suffered through the dark days of Dickie Tarnstrom leading the Pens in scoring from the blue line we can have a great conversation about hockey, if you're a Crosby bandwagoner zip it because you can't spell Crosby without sob and cry." His buddy started laughing and said "the Wings fan knows more about the Pens than you ever will". We ended up having a nice discussion during the game, they bought us several rounds and recommended some good places to watch hockey. They also said that it's a bandwagon hockey city.

I'm only interested in another defenseman if he's a legit top pair guy. A game changer. A winner. The kind of guy who would throw some punk kid's track suit into the showers without batting an eye. But where would you find such a defenseman? Who could he be?

So Nill swaps Daley for Sharp, then replaces Daley by bringing in Oduya. Good to see an old friend playin the Hawks.

    Free agents this off season

Craig Custance ‏@CraigCustance 17m17 minutes ago 2-year deal worth $3.75 million per season for Johnny Oduya & the Stars. Includes partial no-trade. Another strong off-season for Jim Nill. Still need some D-men, Jim? You like Kindl, right? Ericsson?

I'd be happy with waiving Andersson anyway.

Franzen isn't going to cause us to lose any kids, if he can't play very much this season, he'll go back on ltir and problem solved. Moving him would be stupid because on top of the fact that we'd have to package something decent with him to get someone to take him there's also the chance he doesn't want to sit on ltir for another team and he retires and we're stuck with the recapture for him. He's been a lifelong wing, so keeping his cap hit off our books isn't a problem as long as he's here. Whether or not you want franzen gone, here, whether you think he can play or not, Taking that unnecessary risk, as well as giving up assets to get rid of him is simply dumb. Anyways. I'm done posting in thus thread as long as it keeps going on this get rid of Franzen at all cost path. Noones going to change their opinion on it, and some don't even effin read or consider what then other person says. .. So have fun with this pointless Franzen talk.

For anyone interested, I started a blog to follow the construction progress of the new arena, via my drone. http://wingsarena.tumblr.com

Growing up in Michigan, and having family from Pennsylvania, I had two favorite hockey players as a kid. Steve Yzerman and Mario Lemieux. Wings have always been my number one team and the Penguins my number two. But most people from what i've seen visiting Pitsburgh all these years don't care about the Penguins unless they are close to winning something. They are more Steelers and Pirates fans. So no way are they America's hockey town.

Every team's state/city tries this, it's like they all want to jump on the Hockeytown wagon. Get over it, there is only ONE Hockeytown. Its just too bad you didn't coin a phrase first...now it just makes you look like you are trying to copy us, and failing miserably...thanks for playing...

How sadly ironic. The great Joe Louis was hounded by creditors for much of his life. And now the building named after him is being demolished because of some inept city's creditors.

I'm still pissed they're going to demolish the arena with the greatest non-corporate name in sports. This new arena looks cool, though, and I understand they want to be on par with other new arenas around the league. I just wish we weren't so keen in this country with demolishing legendary arenas. They don't do s*** like that in Europe.
