People get too caught up in putting players in a box. This guy is a "middle 6 forward." "That guy is a checking line player." It all depends on how lines are structured and who works well with whom. Some guys love having a McCarty/Abdelkader/Homer type on their line, other guys would rather play with two skill players. McCarty wasn't a skilled player by any means, but he spent a lot of time on scoring lines when he wasn't with Draper and Maltby. With the right linemates and in the right system, Abdelkader can be useful on a scoring line, but he'd be good in a checking role too. I think Bertuzzi is going to be the type who can play on any line, but his best usage is on an energy line that goes out stirs up crap, and forechecks.

I've heard this draft being compared to the 2003 draft for depth, in that you could get some high end talent outside of the top 10 (such as a Carter, Seabrook, Parise, Getzlaf, Burns, Kesler, Richards, Perry, Eriksson, Bergeron, Weber, Backes, Pavelski, Byfuglien, etc). But it also has the potential to be more top heavy (top 3-5) than most drafts, with the elite, potential generational talent in Dahlin, and potential super-stars in Svechnikov, Zadina, Tkatchuk, etc. I think it's the plethora of guys that will go in the first couple rounds that could be good to very good NHL players that is giving it the label of being a "strong draft" though. If you're asking how many players will start next season in the NHL, my guess would be 3-5. How many will be NHL players (play at least 200 games), I'd say it could be as high as 45-50 from the first 2 rounds. Hopefully we can land at least 2 super-star to elite level guys with (hopefully) our 7+ picks in the first three rounds...

Tatar has less goals this yr but I find he's more of a scorer than nyquist and Gus's 8 pts in 35 playoff games doesn't give me confidence can see us keeping Gus though since he's more of a 2way guy Halak and a 2nd for Howard ?? i think it's most likely bs although I never stopped believing in mrazek and he's also 8-9 yrs younger so I'd much prefer holding on to him

Howard for Halak straight up doesn't make sense. If they can bring in Halak and a pick or prospect, that would be something to consider. At best Howard is going to be around 3 more years, they need a long term plan in net. As much as I question if Mrazek is that answer, giving him the majority of the starts the rest of this year is probably the smart move. If Mrazek craps the bed, they an try to re-sign Halak for next year and have an extra asset out of the bargain.

Yea, saw the video. It’s pretty BS. But if they’re sticking to the whole “avoid conussions and brain damage on late hits” stuff then I can see why the cracked down.

    Cogliano's Consecutive Games Streak Ends

Tough break, but it looks like he got him in the jaw/nose area. With the league facing all these concussion suits, I can see why they did it. Does suck though, hate to see a streak like that end in that manner.

I'm a little more optimistic. Im hoping he turns out to be more of a middle 6 winger, along with Givani Smith.

Offer sheet issue too. It's not like Feds has just one problem. He had a track record that probably left a bad taste in the owners mouth. Plus we don't know what was going on behind the scenes. Maybe Feds was beating around the bush too much and the owners didn't want to deal with it all over again like they had to in 98 or whatever it was.

Just curious, how far down deep are people thinking this draft is? Like top 20 guaranteed to start NHL? I'm just wondering what they mean by "Strong draft" exactly.

Right from what we know Franzen is fine at the moment. Living a normal life (according to his instagram). No reason to take his number out of circulation. Now if he started going crazy, and died then I can see a stronger argument. But just cause people are getting injured and still living normal lives, I don't see why they should get a high honor like Vladdy did. Far as I know Fischer has a really good job, lives a normal life, plays in the alumni games. If we go with this type of bench mark, then you'll start having most numbers out of circulation. McCarty (#25), Probert (#24), Fischer (#2), Franzen (#93), Shaw Burr (#11), Butch Paul (#14), Steve Chiasson (#3) are just to name a few that either suffered from chronic medical issues because of hockey or tragically died during their playing careers.

Manta reminds me Robert Lang, because he's lazy and he sucks... at times, when he decides not to show up. At other times (one or two so far this season), when he make an effort, this team can beat anybody. What's up with this guy? I meant Manta, not Lang...
