NO FLAMING ON DRAFT DAY THE HYPE MUST FLOW

Had a chance to do to St John's last fall for work stuff. We also had a baby due in 2 - 3 weeks. I chose to stay closer to home. ANYWAY, enough of that.

Unfortunately, we recently lost one. RIP Garth Snow.

I definitely agree with the ELCs. If Svechnikov or any other prospect has a chance to come in and produce similar numbers to aging players on more expensive contacts then we should be looking to move out some of these vets. Having a bottom 6 made up of ELCs and cheaper contracts will allow management to go after bigger fish in free agency and in trades. This along with the high draft picks we will have over the next few seasons will help speed up the rebuild. Plus the kids will have been playing at the NHL level and learning, hopefully pushing for spots in the top 6 and creating more competition for roster spots.

We've had one top 10 pick (2017 - Michael Rasmussen) in the past 20+ years, and it looks like he's going to make the team out of camp this year (one year after being drafted). Whoever we take 6th overall this year will have a legit shot at making the team out of camp this year, and if he doesn't, will be a shoo-in next season. Larkin ranked 56th in the league in points among forwards (top 30 among centers) this season, at the age of 21. He most certainly will be a top 50 player. I may be in the minority, but I think Mantha will be a top 50 winger as well. Those are just a couple bright spots. We do need some elite talent, but what do you expect when you haven't had a top 5 pick in 25+ years? We're heading in the right direction, we just need to continue to build through the draft, and get younger. Stay the course.

All that does is set our timeline back further, and seeing as hes probably our best draft pick outside of Larkin and Mantha since 1999-2000, no I wouldnt.

Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet 650 and said "I think Detroit has a lot of interest in Justin Faulk". I've long been a fan of Faulk, and I'd love to acquire such a player. I'm just not sure if I'd want to give up the assets to acquire a player having 4 consecutive seasons trending in the wrong direction. He's only 26 years old, but also only has two years remaining on a reasonably cap friendly contract. I guess it depends on the cost, and whether or not we could move any defensemen in separate deals...
