Quite an interesting start to the 2011/2012 season. Mr. Shanahan is fairly busy already. I'll do my best to keep this list updated as they accumulate. Jody Shelley: Remainder of preseason play and 5 regular season games for hit from behind on Toronto's Darryl Boyce. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond: Remainder of preseason play and 1 regular season game for hit from behind on Vancouver's Matt Clackson. Brad Staubitz: Remainder of preseason play and 3 regular season games for hit from behind on Columbus' Cody Bass. James Wisniewski: Remainder of preseason and 8 regular season games. Brad Boyes: 2 games for hit to the head of Toronto's Joe Colborne. J-F Jacques: Remainder of preaseason play and 5 regular season games for leaving bench to instigate a fight (in the last 5 minutes of a game). Tom Sestito: Remainder of preseason play and 2 regular season games for hit from behind on the Rangers' Andre Deveaux. Brendan Smith: Remainder of preseason and 5 regular season games for hit to the head of Chicago's Ben Smith. Clarke MacArthur: 2 regular season games for hit to the head of Detroit's Justin Abdelkader. Pierre-Marc Bouchard: 2 games for high stick on Columbus' Matt Calvert. Kris Letang: 2 games for hit from behind on Winnipeg's Alexander Burmistrov. Andre Deveaux: 3 games for hit Max Pacioretty: 3 games for hit to the head of Pittsburgh's Kris Letang

    Filppula is "too nice".

Teammates want to fire up Filppula http://www.freep.com/article/20110925/SPORTS05/109250596/Red-Wings-teammates-want-fire-up-Valtteri-Filppula Ken Holland was probably the first to throw out that 70 point potential number for Filppula right after he signed him to his current contract. At the same time, he added a qualifier to it. So I'd like to poll LGW and maybe create our own definition of what a breakout year for him would really be. I'd also like to see where people predict his point totals will be by the end of the year. It could be a fun little hindsight thread.

    Matt Cooke already!

Yeah, no s***. Talk about low standards.... So I think I've figured out the solution to this whole Cooke thing. Have Shanny call up McCarty, Stevens, Pronger and whoever the guy is that got suspended for using a hockey stick like a baseball bat. All of them go out on the ice in street clothes. All Cooke has to do is skate from one end of the ice to the other.

I liked his hustle at camp...he worked hard. The last day (Thursday) after they were done scrimmaging, he was out on the ice with Brendan Smith and Pasha, and the three of them were down at the other end of the ice doing keep away drills. Pasha was teaching them, and Fabian was watching every move he made and soaking up every bit of advice he was given. And he's a very quiet, nice kid. I like his chances for being in GR - I think he's earned a place.

What can be done to go East?

My point basically was the fans shouldn't make claims regarding travel or just unsubstantiated claims like the one I did above. They are not based in any kind of fact and are mostly ones personal opinion. This decision won't come down to anything like that anyway's. Personally for me, the move to the east will suck. Living on the west coast will make it that much harder to actually watch my team.

Its not the Red Wings job to make sure other Western teams fill out their arenas. Also, if the Wings move East, these Western teams that never make the playoffs (like Columbus, St Louis) will see their odds of getting a playoff spot increase since they won't be getting beat down by the Wings. If they make the playoffs, they get at least 2 more home games. Winning games and getting into the playoffs will increase the fanbase and generate more interest. They could have sell outs for games that don't involve the Wings. Wouldn't these franchises rather have sell outs because their team is popular, not because the visiting team is popular? Also, if your franchise is dependent on the Wings visiting your city 2-4 times a year, then you're doing something wrong and you probably shouldn't have a franchise in the first place. I think its crap that Wings fans, in which most live in the Eastern time zone, have to stay up insane late to watch half their teams' road games because some Western franchises can't generate local interest in their hockey team. Meanwhile, we could have a lot of great original 6 rivalries get renewed if they moved East. The Wings are great, but they won't be great forever. Someday they'll have to rebuild and they won't be the draw in other cities that they are now. A conference realignment should have nothing to do with how good a team is at that moment because that could change any year. Okay, I'm done ranting now.

What can be done to go East?

Interesting, here is one of my own thoughts based on about the same stuff you base your opinion on. If Detroit moves East they will become weaker. We will become complacent and won't work as hard. We will easily lose 5 wins in a season due to playing in a weaker conference which breeds weaker teams. Detroit has been doing just fine in the West I'm sure we can all agree. Just thinking from memory we have had: 6 Presidents Trophies 20 straight Playoff appearances 8 Western Conference Final Appearances 6 Stanley cup Final Appearances 4 Cups But that jet lag is killing us.

    Kindl

I think if Kindl is given the oppertunity he will live up to those words. He's a good young player with a lot of potential and I can see him being a big part of the Wings Defensive Corps!!

I know that most fans want the wings to move east but it would break my heart. I have a hard enough time catching regular season games as it is

What can be done to go East?

I agree, so let us start a website and petition. Tweet about it, facebook about it, go out with signs and show the league about it and let us actually stop buying tickets to Western Conference away games to make it known that we are going East!!! Honestly we can just sit back and let them screw us over, or we can make them do what we want. We are the fans, we pay their bills, so we should have our say. The truest form of Democracy is the boycott!

    Matt Cooke already!

I dunno. It appears Cooke just pushed a player that had already been off balance. It sure doesn't help it was a cross checking motion right to the numbers but all in all; not a brutal hit.
