Whatever the case, Gillis got destroyed. He wanted to trade Luongo's bad contract and keep the obviously-superior Schneider, so he started by shopping Luongo around; this obviously alienated Luongo a bit, and made the latter start publicly hoping for a new start in another city for another team. He ended up asking far too much for Luongo; instead of lowering his price, he decided to trade Schneider instead. He got a good offer for Schneider from Edmonton, but ultimately decided instead to trade Schneider for a single draft pick, a price he could probably have extracted for Luongo. So now he's stuck with the inferior goaltender, who is also most likely a bit bitter at being kept after all. This is a minor point, but he also didn't bother to tell Luongo before making the trade. As of 20 minutes ago, he still hadn't spoken with Luongo, and planned to do so later in the day. This guy is on crack.

    Edler is on the block?

As someone who lives in BC and watches a lot of Canuck games I really hope the Wings don't trade for Edler. He does not think a good game out there, and he's been like this the past two seasons. All the Canuck fans I know hope they trade him because he's so frustrating.

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 40m Wowsers. Van trades Cory Schneider to NJ for 9th overall pick. Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 37m Word is Canucks and Devils agreed to Schneider deal Saturday night Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 15m Gillis said he did not speak with Luongo before agreeing to Schneider trade. I'm kinda stunned. I can't believe how Vancouver has handled their goaltender situation.

    Letang Re-signed 8 yrs. $58 million

http://hockeytracker.net/wordpress/2013/06/letang-stays/ 8yr/$58m I love it. Pretty much ensures the Pens won't be contender for 8 years.

They traded the 1a goalie to a team that already has one of the greatest goalies of all time, Schneider has to ride the pine for a year to watch Brodeur play out his final year and now the Nucks are stuck with a goalie who clearly doesnt have much interest in playing for them......nice move Gillis..this just reeks or terrible and it looks so good on them.

Hampus. I...I can't even. I hope he becomes a big deal on the Wings in a few years so we can hear his name ALL THE TIME.

I can give you a good reason why to take him now. Another team shows interest in taking him before you pick again. CS means nothing when your own scouts think hes better. If CS meant everything then Dats and Hank would have been 1st rounders.

They're assuming Franzen's contract. Just getting a replacement-level player for that would require the team to chip in a prospect. In my opinion, Sheahan's gotta go. He'll run out of waiver options before the team has an opening, especially with Jarnkrok coming and Andersson coming into his own. And he's got a bad rep with at least one inside scout that I'm familiar with. Nonetheless, here's one thing I try to do when making out a roster: Never short-change the opposition. It's more realistic to give up too much in a mock and be kindly surprised than to suggest another team would give up a really good player for next to nothing. At least you all reading the mock would get an understanding of what I'm trying to do without blowing it off for creating a fantasy roster without any stipulations. My initial offer to the team would be Franzen and Sheahan for Stafford. That's a top-six lefty for a top-six righty. That's a 33-year-old with an extensive contract and a solid center prospect for a 27-year-old with a team-friendly contract. Numbers come into play with deals like this. Franzen has another seven years on his contract- that's a huge responsibility for a team to assume, especially one that's rebuilding. I figure in this scenario the Sabres buy him out after the following year. Making an owner assume another team's $15 million responsibility likely requires a lot more than just a center prospect. Which is where Frk and the pick come into play.

Did all of you eagle-eyed observers not notice that every player is getting a #13 jersey today, I don't know, maybe because it's the 2013 draft?

Only two spots back and you pick up another 2nd rounder. Gotta count that as a win.

    Blackhawks Letter of Appreciation

Easy enough to pay for an ad in the paper, nice words, etc.. Doesn't change my mind or make me respect them one bit more, though.

Remember when Flip was the youth? Remember when he put put up 70 points in GR and everyone was all over Babcock and Holland for not playing him enough? Now he's greedy and one-dimensional and useless Remember when Hudler was the youth? Remember when he put up 96 points in GR? Remember how everyone was all over Babcock and Holland for not playing him enough? Now he's greedy and one-dimensional and useless and lazy. Remember when Kopecky was the youth? Remember when he put up 72 points in GR? Remember how everyone was all over Babcock and Holland for not playing him enough? (well, OK, its was just Eva ) Now he's just useless. Remember when Kronwall was the youth? Remember when he put up 53 points in GR? Remember when he was Nick Jr? Now he's useless and can't defend, and a turnover machine and not a #1 defenceman. Remember when Smith was the youth? Remember how 12 months ago he was LOCK for the Calder on here? Now he's the most useless defenceman in history, a Frankenstein combination of all the worst parts of Anders Ericsson, Max Kuznetzov, Matthieu Dandenault and Brett Lebda. Are you spotting the pattern here? When they're in the minors all our prospects are the next coming of Steve Yzerman and Nick Lidstrom on here. Then they get here, and they turn into what the scouts projected (3rd line checker, 2nd line 2-way winger) and not what the LGWers predicted (Pavel Zetterberg), and LGW treats them like they're something they scraped off their shoe. So good luck Nyquist. Good luck Tatar. Good luck Sheahan, Ferraro and Jurco. You'd better turn into HOFers, otherwise you'll just plain SUCK!

    Filppula's team.

If you're an impending UFA and look around at the type of money paid to other guys that you know you're better than, I don't know how you can consider it greed. Players around Flip's age have to lock down that one big deal to make the bulk of the money they'll make in their lifetime. Logic and reason tell you that with the cap going down, players like Filppula can't be paid $5.5 mil per year, but experience tells you that somebody will pay that, or close to it. Crap, teams like Phoenix, Columbus, etc. need to hand out a bad contract or two just to stay over the salary floor! Have you ever left a job voluntarily that you weren't fired from? I suspect most people have (or have considered it), and some people consider doing it on almost an annual basis. Did you feel like a greedy traitor knowing that somebody else had to take over your work and clean your mess up so you could go earn a little more money somewhere else?
