God, I feel so giddy.

Bertuzzi could run over my mother with a truck, and I'd have to get someone else to call 9-1-1, cause I'd be busy trying to get an autograph.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Its not really that well have 9 million to spend flat out. For example, if we re-sign Datsyuk, its not like its going to add 6M on to the payroll. If Datsyuk gets 6M, itll be a 2.1M addition to the payroll. Thats a big difference.

Check out this site www.nhlnumbers.com it shows every teams salaries, very useful.

Glad to see Kenny did something. The current Wings team would not have made it far in the playoffs.

Wings definitely got some size up front.

I bet Chris is happy that there is no chance of getting such abuse either, lol.

Not sure if this has been posted, but here's the conditional pick explanation from mlive.

Florida will get either a first-, a second- or a third-round pick in 2007 based on Bertuzzi's performance and the success of the team. If the Wings reach the conference finals, Bertuzzi plays in two-thirds of their playoff games and is among their top five playoff scorers, the Panthers get a first-rounder. If Bertuzzi isn't among their top five in scoring, Florida still gets a first-rounder if the Wings reach the Stanley Cup finals and Bertuzzi plays in two-thirds of the playoff games. If they reach the conference finals and Bertuzzi hasn't played in two-thirds of the playoff games, the Panthers get a second-rounder. In any other scenario, the Panthers get a third-round pick, which is the minimum.

Florida will also get a second-round pick in 2008 if Bertuzzi, an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, re-signs with Detroit.

It's a good deal for the Wings, who had to counter moves made by Western Conference rivals Nashville (Peter Forsberg) and San Jose (Bill Guerin). They gave up only a mid-level prospect and conditional picks. If Bertuzzi doesn't pan out, it's possibly this move could only cost them Matthias and a third-round pick. And considering the bounty Nashville gave up for Forsberg and Atlanta for Keith Tkachuk, the Wings did well by keeping their top prospects and losing, at worst, a first and a second-round pick.

 but excellent job on Holland's part.

I was just thinking. It's funny how things work out. A friend of mine is a Canucks fan. We went to the Wings/Canucks game Nov 22. She was a big Bertuzzi fan when he was there. I told her before we went that it's ok to wear her Canucks jersey to The Joe, but probably not if Bertuzzi was on the back because, "Wings fans don't like him". Now he's on the team

Well good job Kenny in the last couple days, getting rid of Williams picking up Calder and not giving up too much for Bert.

Yeah, I think he's what the team needs (if healthy) and I like what they got in a player, but not in a person.

WOW!! Did Kenny ACTUALLY deal for a Winger/Power Forward with grit, toughness and all that good stuff?!?!?! How could he get a guy whom if fully healthy is EVERYTHING Detroit needs? Did I just enter into some bizarro world where Kenny wheels and deals like a GM maestro without giving up the farm???

I was watching the TSN Trade Deadline Special at work and when I saw the Bertuzzi trade announced on the air I had to stop myself from disturbing the co-workers! Anyways I love the fact that the pick is conditional on how many games Bertuzzi plays, how far we go and so on. As for Matthias his upside is no better than a 3rd liner anyways so it's no big loss (although I'd have prefered that we dumped a centre prospect instead but that's really nitpicking).

I haven't been this excited about our cup chances for a long time (i.e. since last season)..... Our team defense is arguably the best in the league and with 6 legitimate and proven scoring forwards (provided they are healthy) we have the horses to grind out a 2-1 or 3-2 wins against any team in the league.

BRING ON THE PLAYOFFS!!

If he comes back and plays to form, he'll be a major steal. Otherwise, it's not too bad anyways considering they didn't give up too much.

Great Job Kenny! Nice to see you making a big splash!

I'm not a Holland slappy, but it still seems like there should be a lot more people in this thread giving mea culpas for bitching about him not doing anything.

Not me, I said over and over that we were in good hands and I trust Hollands judgement.

Everyone thinks that todd and chelli wont get along because of the hit that bertuzzi put on chelli on 02 but these two are professionals and chelli was quoted the other daying say that he thought todd was what the wings were looking for. Not to metion they have a common respect for one another. Even after the series the two shook hands no problem. We will see how it works out but i dont think they have a grudge between the two...IPB Image

This is a good deal if Bert is 50% of his old self.If he comes back rejuvenated and 100%,it may be the best deal of the year. If he is the Bert of old,and we resign him,it may be the steal of the decade.

If he's a dud,we haven't given up much, but if he's healthly and motivated,it may go down as one of Detroit's greatest aquisitions.

I'm happy! This is one player that I actually wanted, and I thought could fill a role on the team. Hopefully he will fit right into our system, like I have a suspicious he will :-D

With all the other 'questionable' and/or 'controversial' players we've had, and loved, I'm sure he'll be a fan favorite in no time.

You like Lilja?

Yeah actually I do, I think that we all just rag on him way too much. He's been a dependable player for us for the last two seasons and has been a plus player. He has been physical on rare ocassions although he does cough up the puck. So yeah, I think we should resign him when his contract is expired and I'm really impressed with him so far as a Redwing. ....... NOTTT!!!!

As most have stated, great move by Kenny Holland considering how high Guerin and others got (Dupius got Alex Bourret, ALEX BOURRET). I just hope Bertuzzi's back hold's up, and somehow finds chemistry with someone and becomes the dominant power forward we been lacking this whole season.
