adtthosa 5 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 This was a really disappointing game. These last few have been painful to watch, our guys just don't seem to care. I'm not panicking yet though, I still have confidence (believe it or not) that we will get solid goaltending in the playoffs and also I think that Helm/Leino will provide a nice spark. I don't understand why they aren't playing for us right now actually, we need some new bodies out there. Glad to hear Babcock tore into the guys. I can't see us not winning Sunday (why did they have to make the game so early, I'll be at work). This team won the Cup a year ago, unless we gp down 3-0 in the first round I don't see why we can't get things together here.

Duck Guy 86 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) I've seen some of his posts here and I would mostly agree. But his timing on this one sucks. So I can talk s*** on the wings tell the cows come home... or do i need a name like "lidsownzall" to do that? Dont want to sound like an A$$ but seriously? ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) Well now I don't know what to do. I wanted Conklin in net and if that's how he is going to play if he is under pressure of trying to be the number 1 IDK. I'd love to see a kid up but that is almost to risky for a player that hasn't seen any NHL time. Plus as someone mentioned hoping for a Price type player, Price blew last years playoffs. I guess we just flip back and forth and ride with the lesser of 2 evils at the end of the day. This also had to be Big Rigs worst game of the season he looked horrible out there; at least him and Lebda as a combo did. Draper and Maltby are done, they are done, they both need to sit this playoffs unless someone is injuried, they are done. I was watching some of the EDM VS SJ game and both teams were flying down the rink putting pressure on. I haven't seen the Wings "fly" down the rink since about mid Feb, this team really is lacking motivation or I hate to say it possibly heart. They remind me of the Pistons after they won the championship and that resulted in CF and even another Finals appearance but no wins... But all I can do is hope and pray for the best. GO WINGS! edit: Get Sammy off the point on the PP for the love of god! Also does anyone know when Cleary will be playing again because the ahole whereing his jersey sure as hell has been worthless this entire season. Johnny Diamonds 25 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 (edited) Zero heart, zero toughness. I don't remember one good hit out there tonight by the Wings. Why should any of the defensemen hit anyone out there anyways? They're just following the example set by their Captain. Dont want to sound like an A$$ but seriously? Seriously? I really haven't read a whole lot of your posts and alas, I've never been very good at reading minds. It's not your name. You could call yourself "I'mhotforHossa" but you'd still primarily be a Ducks' fan, right? Once again, it's your timing. I can't speak for any other Wings' fans on this board who don't know you, but I was already waaay down and you come on here and say "lol". Strange, I know, but when I see that word from an "enemy" fan, my first reaction is you're flaming us. By the way, what did you find funny about that game? If I made a mistake it's because I took your post at face value. And ohboy, I'm gonna have to live with my mistake for the rest of my days, huh. Peace out. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 ZzzzZzzzz... Huh? Wha? Is the season over yet? No? .... ZzzzZzzzz... Conklin wasn't very good, defensively I thought they did OK, Big Rig got his pocket picked on that first one which was unfortuante; as a whole that second period was just a result of not coming in with any jump and spending the whole time in your own end. They turned in on in the third, because that's what they do, but Conklin's gaffes combined with two lousy periods of hockey came down on them for the L. If they cared, maybe I'd care, but as it is they're second in the West and that's not likely to change, so whatever.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 I DID fall asleep watching this one...and I am glad I did. Reading the posts here was like a condensed version of the game. I want to see Babs' interview though. I want to see him try and light a fire under a team that has played without much of it for 70 something games so far. It'll be tough. There's a good chance it'll be Nashville and while the Wings have had a lot of success against them, you don't want to take that for granted with mediocre play going into that series. The time to for everyone to start caring is upon us shortly. And if the Wings play Nashville, I'm going to find another stream because if I have to listen to Terry Crisp one more ******* time I'm going to punch a stray cat. ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Mlive: Red Wings coach Mike Babcock was furious about this latest setback, which came after the team had a three-day break and ample time to prepare and correct its problems. But once again, this club couldn't match its opponent's sense of urgency. "Just like the previous two games, at the start of the game they were more urgent and better than we were and then when we fell behind 2-0 we got a sense of urgency and started to play,'' Babcock said. "That's not good enough. So obviously, the job I'm doing in here, the team is not ready, so myself and the leadership group, we got to do better than this. This is unacceptable.'' Babcock was asked if he was mad. "Mad is an interesting word. Frustrated is a waste of time. I'm just disappointed,'' Babcock said. "I'm disappointed in the job I'm getting done here and our group. This is un-Red Wing like and not good enough. "We're turning it around next game.''

I think you're being a little overly hostile; he's generally a respectful poster, and a genuine fan of our team. I guess whether or not you laugh has to do with how you feel about this pitiful effort. I felt like laughing too, because if I got depressed after each pathetic showing this team has given us this season I'd have jumped off a building by now. Honestly, we're 77 games through the season, and there's SO much uncertainty. Our goaltending has been terrible as of late, regardless of who has been in net. And with 5 games remaining until the playoffs, our defense looks the same as it did in game 1. I would absolutely love to see the press conference after the game, as I missed it, because Babcock needs to lay into this team. When your defense is being paid a total of about 25 million dollars (highest in the league?), you expect it to be the best in the league. Both of our goalies are good, but not great. They're not the type of goalies that can steal a game like the goalies they'll be going up against in the playoffs (Kipper, Nabby, Roloson, etc). Last year we won because of our defense, but that's this year's achilles-heel. How does that happen?

Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Babcock is an idiot. Am I the only one who was screaming TIMEOUT after we got the second tying goal? I saw them scoring from the second we scored it. Babcock is so stingy with his timeouts. Anyway, I'm sick of losing, but I don't mind losing to the blues to help them in the playoffs race. I like the idea of all 5 central teams getting in very much.

Calling at timeout would not have prevented them from scoring...

Last year we won because of our defense, but that's this year's achilles-heel. How does that happen? It's simple. Everyone knows the wings look for the fast beak-out and to transition the puck quickly. That means your first puck possessor is on a bit of an Island to make the first pass. Teams have figured out that a 2 man pinching forecheck on the first D can yield results because a puck scramble turns to the forecheckers advantage and the Red Wing "cookie monsters" have to stay in the zone for a bit. In reality this team is poorly coached on the defensive end. I don't know why. Edited April 3, 2009 by clutchngrab
clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted April 3, 2009 Well I'm pretty sure he's probably been riding them a bit after the Trashville and Columbus games along with the Pittspuke game from earlier on to name a few. Motivation issues are something that are either really easily fixed (and with a veteran team like the Wings it should be easy to get through to them you'd hope) OR they can completely destroy a team no matter what the coaches attempt to do. Usually (as was the case in Pittsburgh, it ends up with a coach getting canned). Something tells me we'll see a significant player change his address before we see Babcock get canned this year or next. yeah, nice idea - but all the suspects have no-trades. Go figure.
