Great! Now the fighting guys here will have nothing to ***** about.

Yeah... First game that we lose where May's not playing, and it's all we'll hear about for days...

Anywho... Good signing, he brings something that's needed to the lineup, and you darn sure can't beat the price.

he is exactly what we needed to be competitive with the so-called "hit-first and then let's see" type of teams e.g. SLB, Anaheim. The next step should come from Babcock putting May-Newbury-Abedelkader (Helm) against them. We still may go with something like Draper-Helm-Abdelkader (Maltby) against those who think they can outskill us e.g. Chicago, Pittsburgh, etc. LEt's be flexible a little bit!

Cheap signing!

Let's hope this guy can provide some forechecking to go with that toughness.

From what I've seen and am reading, I shouldn't get my hopes up.

Sweet. This dude was brought here for one reason, to punch people in the head - every other thing that he can do, other Wings can do better. I like that we have a head-puncher. The league has other, better head-punchers, but this one is ours. Better than nothing. Good work, Kenny!

I couldn't help but laugh at this... I agree, though. You just made it sound the best out of anyone else here.

Man what is with the negativity?...I mean jeez.

Actually, I'm kind of surprised your side of things is so thrilled with it. Pretty decent chance we see a replay of this at some point, except with the guy getting his face caved in wearing red:

Epic post! I hope he spends a lot of time playing on the big ice.

Great news. For same price as Eaves, better player plays, get er going Brad!

Bit too early to be writing off Eaves don't you think? The season hasn't even started yet (sorry, not counting the Swedish disaster), give him time and he'll soon be a regular. He offers more than May.

Fights: You win some, you lose some.

I think we're thrilled that we've got someone that will regularly drop the gloves when it is needed.

That is... when he is in the lineup.

No, actually I'm happy to have this type of player, especially seeing how the first two games went.

My only concern would be that any ineffectiveness may leave him in GR and that doesn't help us on game night.

I won't watch the Janssen fight, because that dude is just nuts. Just happy to have a guy that will stick up for some of our guys.

from mlive.com

Last night, MLive.com's own Ansar Khan reported that the Red Wings signed Brad May to a one-year contract, and the Detroit News's Chris McCosky reports that the Wings swapped out Justin Abdelkader for May's sake:

October 8, Detroit News: The Red Wings signed veteran Brad May to a one-year, two-way contract this morning. To make room for him, the Wings sent Justin Abdelkader back to Grand Rapids.

He will reprise the role that Aaron Downey played the past couple of seasons, an enforcer-type player the Wings can deploy against some of the more physical teams in the league.

May is 37 and has played in 1,001 NHL games for six different teams. He has amassed 127 goals and 2,182 penalty minutes.

Expect May to bounce up and down from Grand Rapids as necessary, though I'm starting to wonder whether the Wings might very well send Darren Helm back down as well.

Obviously, it's much better for Justin Abdelkader to play for 20 minutes a night as the Griffins' #1 center than it is for him to play 8 minutes a night on the Wings' fourth line.
