Bertuzzi SUCKS

Soooo I'm not that crazy after all. Granted it was only one game, but all the same he was the best player tonight(Howard played well too, but that bad goal hurt).

Stuart.

Bert was good though. Lucky 1st goal but the 2nd was a beauty.

His play often goes unappreciated.

Understatement of the year. I've been saying for a long time, Stuart is our BEST defensive d-man. Sure he makes a few mistakes, but he's been crucified for his few mistakes, while no one ever notices the amazing plays he makes.

I've been saying all year that he's been playing great.

Sucking for 20 games and doing good in one game DOES NOT EQUATE to "playing great".

I'm with the others, Bert still sucks. He's a big goon that doesn't fight, doesn't stand up for his team (he's too afraid of breaking necks), he doesn't score, doesn't hit, doesn't stick handle.

Although he was good tonight, it doesn't make up for all the other games.

F*c$ Ya! That's what I'm sayin, Bert does not deserve a 9 page thread on why he sucks (or doesn't for that matter) no one on this team does! So after 18 damn years they have a stubble step, let's get behind the guys (who in my opinion our alot of guys with something to prove and have the ability to do so) because they have showed a number times that when there game is on they can beat the best and be the best. Let alone with a healthy line up! The haterz should cheer for the leafs and see what it's like cheering for a s***ty team that has sucked as long as the Wings have been Great!

Ok I don't even know where to begin here.

I'll just agree with the whole playing great idea. He had a great night, but he hasn't been playing great for the majority of the season.

But to say he sucks without any evidence just makes you look ignorant. Please come back and actually bring something to the discussion.

He is a 1.5 million dollar 3rd liner! Bertuzzi is on pace for about 12-15 goals, which I think is about right for him. And for those saying Bertuzzi sucks, your context is wrong. If you want to compare 2002 Bertuzzi to 2009 Bertuzzi, yeah I'll admit he is now where near it, but if you compare 2009 1.5 million Bertuzzi versus other 1.5 million players I'd say we'll probably get our money's worth. And from what I've seen he's been skating better now than the last 2 previous years and his defense is improved. Yeah, he has had some boneheaded penalties but he was committing boneheaded penalties in Vancouver. And finally, yes Bertuzzi has some flaws, but its not like we are paying him an exorbitant amount of money, imo he represents a pretty good value.

I've been saying all year that he's been playing great.

The haters need to quiet down.

What really impressed me was how he reacted to the tying goal and then the OT winner. Bert has been in the league for a long time and he reacted like he just scored his 1st goal in the NHL. He was so genuinely happy and excited to contribute. He is not lazy and he is not here for a paycheque...he wants to be a difference maker, and after he scored the shootout winner last week I predicted (like some others) that his confidence would grow and it clearly has. It was awesome to see that kind of joy from a player who contributeto this team...and has!

Way to go Bert! I am rooting for ya!

Exactly

Howard has been doing his job, as good as Conklin could have done, so I guess its a good thing we didn't waste money on him...

Bert doesn't suck at all.. he will be an awesome 3rd line player when our team is healthy.. You can't expect that guy to score every night. He's not a 1st line player anymore, but he's our only option

I tend to watch Bert play, maybe pay attention too much, and he looks like he's lazy out there. But yesterday he looked like he had a bit more jump in his step. Just an observation.

I don't think Howard is doing as well as Conklin could have. Howard has let in some absolutely brutal goals this year, perhaps just because he's new to the league still. Conklin is more solid at this point.

I dont really understand everyones problem with Bert. I was excited when we got him at the trade deadline 2 season ago, im a big beleiver in second chances, and i thought he would be a great addition to our team. He didnt play to hot the first time he was with us, and i was sad to see him leave, but i understand his reasoning, he was looking for a long term deal and the wings wouldnt give it to him. When we signed him again in the offseason, i as extremely happy because he wasnt just coming off Injury this time and he was stated as saying that he feels healthy for the first time in a LONG time, and i was excited to see how the man could play. Now with that said, he hasnt been an extremely heavy offenseive force, but he has refined his game to play in the wings organization. When they brought him back, they wanted him to play a more defensive game like all the wings players play, and if you ask me, he is doing just that. Hes skating harder than ive seen in years, hes defenisvely reliable in his own zone, and when he has the puck in the offensive zone he guards the puck well. I do think that all the injuries that we have suffered as a team should change his type of play, because now we rely on secondary scoring like him to help us out on the offensive sheet, and i think that hes starting to do just that. I think with all these injuries you will see bertuzzi pick up a bigger offensive role. Is he going to lead the team in scoring? Hell no, but if you watch all the games from day 1, i think hes been one of the most consistent players on the team, just is hitting a bad stream of luck. I think the guy has about 300 hit posts this season. Now that hes starting to find the net more, i think people should back off a bit. For 1 million dollars i think he has been a GREAT addition to the team.

I think alot of people are biased towards him for the whole Moore incident, and those people cant be swayed and will say the guy sucks no matter what he does. But i think for a million dollars, the guy has produced. He changed his game completely, and is still putting up points on the score sheet, and with all the injuries, he will probably have to step into a bigger role.

The guy is 4th in goals on the team this season, 5th in points and SECOND in shots on this team, ahead of DATSYUK. I think the guy is playing pretty damn hard if you ask me. People need to just back off. People in Detroit are always looking for someone to blame when we lose. Cant we just chalk the bad season up to losing alot of offense in the offseason on top of the MILLIONS of injuries this year? I think this team is playing really well together for what the circumstances are, and when the players come back from injury i think people will see that the team can mesh well together. But back to the point at hand, Bertuzzi in my book was a great offseason addition and hes doing just fine in my book!

Good post, Hank. Pretty much what I've been trying to say the whole time. People's expectations are/were too high for a 1.5 million aging, injury riddled ex-superstar.

I agree as well. In fact, the thread should have been closed after his post as it sums it up perfectly :)

Great post. I absolutely agree. I think a real key is that he really is out there working hard not only in the games but apparently he's really putting in a lot of extra time in practice as well to get stronger. You can tell he's hungry to shoot and contribute and he hasn't had a lot of luck yet, but when you work that hard and you have as much skill as he does, it's bound to get going. I'm really pulling for him this year and I'm quite hopeful that he'll become a key part of this team down the stretch. Everyone deserves a shot at redemption, and there's no better place for a hockey player to find it than in Detroit if you ask me.
