The "meeting" was probably nothing more than a conversation like... Sergei: Hey Pavel, I would really be interested in having you play for CSKA Moscow next season. Pavel: No thanks /meeting Nothing more than PR spin from Sergei 1 13dangledangle reacted to this
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 “[Datsyuk] said: ‘I want to grow as a player and I think that for me the best option is to stay in the NHL,’” Fedorov explained. Damn right! The best and most talent-rich league in the WORLD. Why would anyone not named Kovalchuk want to play in a lesser league? If you're already filthy rich it should be a no-brainer to want to play against the best of the best. Sorry KHL, there are Russians that recognize your league as inferior, because it IS. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 Gee, Sergei, thanks for trying to poach Datsyuk away from your old team. Feds is just doing his job. Is he suppose to say "nah we don't want one of the best players in the world." He then went on to say he completely understands Pavel's decision. So even Fedorov knows which league is the best. He's just trying to make his team as good as he can. No biggie at all 6 haroldsnepsts, asoras, UP Wings Fan and 3 others reacted to this

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) Pavel wants to travel in a modern aircraft that has a 99.99999% chance of not crashing. Sorry but this is not funny. I know what you are trying to say but what happened is still horrible and one can only pray, that the KHL has improved in that regard. Pasha just being Pasha once again, to be honest I wouldn't have hold it against him if he decided to stay in the KHL but I am obviously happy that he decided to return and signed an extension. Also I think some people are really underestimating the playing at home factors in front of the 3-fs, especially if you are already extremely rich. Imagine yourself in a situation thousands of miles away from him, already having tons of cash and almost a guaranteed workstoppage every 4 - 5 years reducing your rights/salary - wouldn't it be extremely tempting to just go home and enjoy playing in front of the former mentioned 3-fs? Winning the Stanley Cup may be the ultimate goal for almost every NA born player but I think a lot of europeans are just happy with playing some years in the NHL and see where it goes. From a purely competitive standpoint though I agree, the NHL is by far the best league. ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 I don't see why any of this is negative. Feds was doing what his job entails and he even admitted he understood why Pavel made is choice, of course I don't have the same hate for Feds as many. 4 pucktividi, Nev, T.Low and 1 other reacted to this
Guest Playmaker Report post Posted July 19, 2013 Of course the NHL is the best league, but I can see the appeal for guys like Kovalchuk. Play at home with your friends and family close, close to or equal money, less games, less media pressure. It wouldn't surprise me if more players left. evilmrt 636 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 He might have gotten a little bit of feedback from the Russian brass for being too friendly with the Wings, letting Marchenko come practice with the Griffs during the playoffs or whatever that was. This is how you save face. Oh well, I know Feds will never try to screw the Wings.
StormJH1 231 Report post Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) Gee, Sergei, thanks for trying to poach Datsyuk away from your old team. Ridiculous. I suppose you'll be burning your Steve Yzerman jersey too, since he was mean enough not to accept that Lashoff/Tootoo/Samuelsson for Stamkos/Drouin/Hedman offer Kenny sent him. C'mon Stevie, we retired your number! You OWE us! Seriously, though, this is not a big deal. 90% of Red Wings fans would have understood if Datsyuk wanted to return back home and finish his career there, so why would it be any different if Fedorov had anything to do with it? I didn't read it as a funny comment. I read it as a serious valid point and a real consideration, as well as a poignant commentary on the state of the infrastructure over there, including significant aspects such as emergency medical preparedness at rinks, player medical coverage in general, etc. Especially coming from F Michael; dude is usually spot on with his insights.
