No different than the 'Minnesota' Wild or 'Florida' Panthers. I wonder how the uniforms are going to look.
Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 So they think the people from the rest of the state are going to fill the seats? NHL teams rely heavily on ticket sales. I just don't see how this solves anything.
kipwinger 8,756 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 I read an interview a couple of months back where the new owner was talking about renaming the team with the Arizona moniker. It wasn't so much about "rebranding" them as much as it was about making the Coyotes similar in name to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Cardinals. Kind of a solidarity move, similar to how all the Pittsburgh teams have the same color scheme for their uniforms. I actually think it's pretty cool. A little state pride never hurt anyone. 4 cnot19, Firefighter4WingedWheel, thegerkin and 1 other reacted to this

evilmrt 636 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) The new owners are actually trying to embrace the kind of hockey fans that live in the Phoenix area (Canucks, Oilers, Flames fans + loads of Wings and Hawks fans as well). This month they announced that they were the first place west of the Mississippi (state-side) to open a Tim Hortons. Yep, Jobing.com now has the only Tim Hortons in the entire West. Then came this: I assume they will reach out to Wings and Hawks fans somehow, soon. Edited January 30, 2014 by evilmrt

I suppose they are trying to appeal to the senior sunbirds with money so it makes sense.

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted January 30, 2014 I like that move nothing wrong with showing regional pride. Also I think if the tax payer has to pay for a hockeyclub, they should have a say on how to name them. What happens if the Coyotes are relocating in the future, would the new be allowed to the change the whole name not just Arizona?

Yeah, if they're relocated they can change the name to whatever they want. Just like Colorado, Carolina, and Dallas did.
