Hockey players are human just like everyone else, mistakes are made, but there's no need to obliterate their life, career, and reputation because of one error. I've felt firmly about this in sports for a long time, the media likes to crucify athletes for something as small as how they word something and it's taken out of context. I understand this is more serious, but the media tends to make things sound wayyy worse than they really are most of the time.

Pete Rose did a lot more than just gamble on baseball. He gambled on and against his own team, trafficked steroids out of his gym/baseball training facility, substance abuse, spousal abuse, and the list goes on. I may be one of the few who believe he got what he deserves.

Ryan obviously has issues, and should be severely punished by the Lightning and NHL. Hopefully he will get the help he needs to get out of that destructive lifestyle.

You bring up baseball and Pete Rose. Wonder how MLB would handle this? I know in the NBA, if guilty, he'd get a 2 game suspension, that's about it. Actually, a 2 game suspension would be more than what someone in the general population gets...which amounts to a loss of license for a short period of time.

I met some cocaine addicts during my law studies and the only thing they need is help. You won't change anything by taking the actions you suggested. Neither do change Malones mind ( if he has only a tiny piece of his brain left he already knows that he has to become clean), nor do you prevent others from becoming addicted.

Only thing I wonder is if he did break regulations regarding doping with that kind of behaviour.
