$7M? Overpayment.... No more than $1.5M per please. Maybe $5M for the term.

He'll get more than 1.5. It's a short contract, the salary will be higher.

See LeftWinger, we do sometimes agree on things.

I would even be somewhat surprised if it is as high as $5M though. My guess has been all along and still stands at around $1.25M per, so $3.75M over three years...

I'm thinking somewhere around 1.8 to 2.2... Even then, I wouldn't be surprised to see 2.4 or 2.5 per.

The term is perfect for both sides. Both sides will get to see what they have in 3 years.

I expect to see 2-2.5 per. Either way, I expect people to complain about it now but be praising it come the final year. That's usually how these contracts work out

I don't think 2.3M/yr is overpayment. That third year could end up being a bargain.

Although Holland is terrific with his RFA signings (see: Sheahan, Riley) so I wouldn't be shocked at 1.5M per either.

Happy dance.  Happy dance.

Now just give us DannyD and I'll be happy.

EDIT: Make that "I'll be totally happy".  I'm now happy enough to be doing a happy dance.  When we sign Danny I'll be doing a happy backflippy kind of dance.  Right now it's more of a happy cha-cha.

It may only be retaining a player we certainly should have retained, but this is still very good news.  It's easy to forget the time when Tatar was buried in GR and getting frustrated.  He's a talented young scorer that we have locked up for 3 years of what will be his peak physical ability.  And if he becomes a perennial 25 or possibly 30-goal scorer, he'll be worth well in excess of $3 million per year by the end of this deal, so I won't lose too much sleep over whether or not this feels like an "overpay" when the cap hit comes out.

And with a 3 year deal, Tatar is an RFA not UFA, when the deal expires.

Couldn't care less either I'm just happy we have him locked up for 3 more years. If he can score around 20 - 25 goals annually that would be absolutely fantastic - to quote 'Babs :) -
