Red Wings Fan Charged With Arson At Lightning Game

A 35-year-old woman from outside Detroit was arrested last night after she allegedly tried to set fire to an oversized Tampa Bay Lightning flag that was being passed through the Amalie Arena crowd before puck drop of Game 7.

According to the Tampa Tribune, Lena Sinishtaj of Sterling Heights, Mich., was booked on a charge of first-degree arson of an occupied structure.

The whole "allegedly tried to" part makes it sound like she didn't even burn anything at all. She probably flicked her lighter near it or something. Not burning down a building trying to murder thousands of people, like the charge implies. We all know how sensationalistic the media is and how the police will try to stick everyone with every charge they can think up. Those things being facts in this country, I'll reserve judgement....

SENSATIONALISTIC?? Are you serious?

She allegedly held a lit lighter up to a (presumably nylon, non-fire retardent) flag as it was being passed across the crowd. A very bad idea and even more foolish in an arena with 18,000 people.

If determined to be true, I sincerely hope they throw the book at her. However, she'll probably end up with probation as long as she has a clean record.

According to police, Sinishtaj caused a small burn to the flag as it passed over roughly 200 people.

It's a flag , not like it's a building she tried to burn ... doubt anything serious will come out of this for her

I love her twitter account. You can actually see her getting more and more excited prior to the game. She had no idea what was in store, and how horribly wrong her night was going to wind up. It's like looking into the past and the future at the same time lol.
