Am I the only one who doesn't think oshie is that great? Brouwer is bigger puts up more goals and has a smaller cap hit.

I wouldn't trade Abby for oshie sorry.

He's a good player. Plus he's money in the shootout, and in today's NHL that's crazy valuable. Edited by wings87

Biggest fleecing I've seen in a long time...

Really wishing Holland could get in on just one of these trades :( Oshie would be a great fit here.

This is basically Abby + Patterson + 3rd

Yeah, but Abby scored more goals than both of them last year and in fewer games, and he's younger. But Oshie had more points.

Obviously I could be wrong, but I can confidently say Abby won't be hitting 23 goals again.

There is no question Oshie is a better hockey player than Abdelkader..

Oshie is a very overrated player. 7 full years in the NHL only scored 20+ goals once-21. Those are 3rd line numbers not top 6. Big and growing cap hit as well. He is great in shootouts however.

Now why did the Blues do this deal? they wanted to become a faster team. so they trade a guy with good speed for a guy with none.... odd......

That's the head scratcher for me. I thought they said something about getting faster, instead they got slower and grittier. Old habits die hard I guess.

I don't think it'll make as much of a differance as people hope.

In the AHL before 3 on 3 overtime 35.3% of games that went past regulation ended before the shootout.

After going to 3 on 3, that number jumped to 75%.

It should be even more effective in the NHL considering the NHL will have 5 full minutes of 3 on 3 vs the 4 minutes of 3 on 3 in the AHL.

Here's hoping the numbers hold up in the NHL. But even 25% could mean the difference between a playoff spot or being left out of the party.

Helm and Abby are not that valuable with both being UFA at the end of the year.

Players get dealt all the time at the deadline that are ufa's and get a nice return, prior to the last few seasons 1sts were always involved

I'm sure if it was trade deadline day and we wanted to trade abdelkader to a contender we'd get a 2nd+ prospect or maybe 3rd in a different year

That being said abdelkader has to stay and be resigned , we don't have to many guys that hit and are willing to crash the net

Nobody will ever be holmstrom but he's our version of holmstrom on the ppl, needs to be locked up next contract for 4-5 yrs

Nothing you are saying is wrong. I should have been more detailed in my response, my comment was in reference to people saying that they could have helped up land Oshie. They could be in the deal, but it would take alot more with them being soon to be UFA's.

Brouwer is a UFA after this season too though.

Oh wow! Is Pheonix Copley at least a stud in the making? If not, I dont get it. Though, I didnt realize Oshie only had 2 years left until he is a UFA.

Abby is money on break aways...can't figure out why Babcock didn't use him in shootouts. His prowess on shootouts is just about the only reason I'd want Oshie here...

Why is this a thing? I don't know if any of you watch the NHL, but he's not good at shootouts.

Oshie was only 36.4% in SO's last season. You know who did better than that? Literally a ton of guys. Lets list some names: Frans Nielsen, Tyler Ennis, Radim Vrbata, Chris Terry, Brandon Pirri, Nick Bonnino, Mats Zuccarello, David Perron, Antoine Vermette, PA Parenteau, Mike Santorelli, Gustav Nyquist, Jacob Josefson, Jakob Silverberg, the list goes on...

And those aren't guys who took 1 shootout attempt and scored. Nyquist was 57% in SO's last season. Dramatically better than TJ freaking Oshie, but is Nyquist a SO specialist? No.
