I am already thinking seeing the Wings in Vegas could be a lot of fun do some gambling catch a show and game. Almost as good as being downtown Detroit catching a show at the Fox, Greektown Casino, and a game.

I dont get to many wings games anymore being in Seattle. I plan on seeing them in Vegas everytime theyre there. Theres a lot of wings fans probablly doing the same. Were scattered throughout the country with the way michigans economy has gone.

Having a team that will be garbage for three years is a great way to build a fan base, right?

Taking other teams players and getting a high pick could make them better than some franchises who have been struggling for years. Not really fair for Vegas to buy a franchise and have a competitive team instantly.

They're not going to be that good. They will have good goaltending, but their team will be filled with the Riley Sheahan's of the world, or kids who are on the cusp (ie. the Tyler Bertuzzi's of the world)

Maybe the GM just takes young kids with the logic of tanking the first couple years in order to get high end draft picks.

The best players theyre going to get are vets on bloated contracts.

Maybe a Hossa, Nash, or Evander Kane.

I guess they have to take some or else they wont hit the cap floor.

Can we trade them Franzen/E and a 7th for an 8th? ;)

They're not going to get elite talent in the expansion draft, but the league isn't going to stick them with a roster that will challenge the old Caps team for worst of all time either.

As far as the teams that have struggled for years go, that's on them. Should have hired a good GM and scouts and used their high picks better.

Ok going back to the 1st round. Here are the top 7 prospects based on most ranking+mock drafts:

1. Patrick 6-3/200 RHed C/RW. He has been hurt most of the year. Shoulder IIRC. 6 games 4 goals 5 assists to date.

2. Vilardi 6-2/195 RHed C. Also has missed games due to injury. 18 games 11 goals 15 assists to date.

3. Liljegren 6-1/190 RHed Dman. Plays in Sweden. Think a better rounded Kornwall minus the big hits.

4. Vesalainen 6-3/205 LHed RW/LW. The Fin is called "Puljujarri Lite" by most scouts.

5. Kostin 6-3/190 LHed RW/LW. Plays in the KHL. Plays a physical game but needs to shoot more.

6. Rasmussen 6-5/210 LHed C. 39 games 26 goals and 17 assists to date. The knock on him was he needs to shoot more. He is doing that big time this year. Offensively he is a lot like Primeau was. Better skater at the same age.

7. Popugayev 6-5.5/205 RHed RW/LW. The big Russian plays for Moose Jaw. 36 games 21 goals and 28 assists to date. Skates well for his size/age.

Those are the top guys. As you can see only 1 Dman in the top group. Patrick was the concensus #1 before the season. Will he drop because of his injury? he is still the best all around talent.

My personnel top 2 are Patrick and Rasmussen. But I am not sure we can go wrong with any of these guys. I am always concerned with taking guys that have yet to play in NA. It takes them and extra year to adjust to the physical play.

I will do the next 7 or so later which should cover our options in the 1st round.

Might be stupid but in my head i'm a bit worried about this draft. For us we have 3 things not working for us. 1) draft is said to be a lack luster 2) Las Vegas expansion 3) LCA 1st season. I hope that ownership down commits to a rebuild. We all know that salary cap era rebuilds can take 3 to 4 yrs if we are lucky. I just hope they don't make Holland make deals to get a team for 2017-18 then wash and repeat of this year only to hit the rebuild discussion once more. I have a feeling trading deadline will let us know the path. So if they choose to try to make playoffs next year we will draft where we usually do haha. Maybe stupid but food for thought.

So Nico doesn't make your top seven?  I think Petterson should probably be included over Kostin who has zero points on the year

Nico should be the next center off the board after Patrick. He is a dominant forward who is NHL ready. Reminds me of a more physical Zetterberg. Unfortunately I am sure we will win just enough to not have to worry about a top 7 pick.

To be clear, this was based on the preseason rankings. I haven't checked for the midseason rankings yet. I know Nico is on the rise. Player will rise and fall between now and draft day.

For the 5th time, its a lottery. As long as we miss the PO's we can pick anywhere from 1st to 14th. Where is YTBD.

Where did that info come from? Everything I've seen says it's the same as last year, with just the first 3 picks being lottery. We'd have a chance at one of those, but otherwise we'd be 8-11 (by today's standings).

It is the same. You can get the 1st overall if you are the 14th team. Now it is a very small chance-1% but you can get it. Vegas has been guaranteed a top 6 pick with the same odds as the 3rd worse team- 11.5%. There is no guarantee about how far you can drop like before-no more than 1 spot lost in the lottery. The odds say we will pick between 5th and 10th overall.

Ok the next 9 for the draft, no order:

1. Hischier C 6-0/175 LHed. Plays for Halifax, 31 games 23 goals 25 assists. Known for his vision and passing. More quick than fast.

2. Tolvanen LW 5-10/180 LHed. Plays for Sioux City, 23 games 16 goals 11 assists. Speedy undersized sniper.

3. Foote RD 6-3/200 RHed. Plays for Kelowa, 38 games 3 goals 27 assists +12 on the year to date. Good skater great passer and shooter from the point. Good defensively, lacks dad's snarl......

4. Pettersson C/LW 6-2/161 LHed. Sweden, 27 games 12 goals 15 assists.

5. Mittelstadt C/LW 6-1/200 LHed. Plays for Green Bay, 16 games 8 goals 13 assists. Fast riser, college bound, considered to be an all around offensive force and solid defensively.

6. Hague LD 6-6/215 LHed. Plays for Mississauga, 33 games 13 goals 16 assists 60 PIM's. Big physical Dman with good shot from the point.

7. Tippett RW 6-2/205 RHed. Plays for Mississauga, 34 games 26 goals 16 assists. Great speed and great shots: slap and wrist. Good defensively.

8. Valimaki LD 6-2/201 LHed. Plays for Tri City, 32 games 12 goals 23 assists. Good solid Finnish Dman.

9. Comtois LW 6-2/201 LHed. Plays for Victoriaville. Has good size, good speed, and good skills. But what is really good at: he keeps coming at you over and over and over again. He play play a speed game a skill game or a gritty game. Not the best at any of those but very good at all. He doesn't give up, great work effort.

That is a total of 16 guys for us in the 1st round. To bad we can't take 2 or 3! I don't care if we go F or D we need both. The one thing I do want is a guy that is ready and able to play in the NHL next season. we need the help now and can't wait 3-5 years for a guy to develop.

A page or 2 ago Cayden Primeau G (Keith's son) and Kelton Hatcher D (Darien's son) were mentioned. As best as I can tell Primeau is a mid round pick anywhere from mid 3rd to early 5th. Hatcher is a late round/undrafted guy. Neither is anywhere as big as their dad's....... To bad!

A couple of more son's of former players over the next 2 drafts. Adam Foote's next son Nolan is a 2019 kid. He is a LW and is already 6-2/175 and projected to be a top 20 guy in that draft.

The next guy is one I am getting very interested in and that is Mattias Samuelsson LD 6-3/210, Kjell's son. He is a top 15 guy for the 2018 draft and is already committed to play at Michigan.

If we go Foote this year and samuelsson in 2018, they get added to Dekeyser, Sproul, Oullett, Marchenko, and Cholowski, that becomes a very very good defensive group.

Any one of those 4 in the 1st and I am a happy happy man. 3 of the 4 could play for Detroit next season-all may get "overrippened".... Hague needs the most time.

Doesn't need to be elite talent. The league these days has tons of great players at all levels of skill, and the goaltending has never been better, with many teams having two starter calibre goalies. They'll have a solid team. Much better than any of the other 7 franchises that have joined since 1991. It's not going to be a Sharks or Senators team with 8 wins in their first couple seasons, or a BJ's team that missed the playoffs in it's first ten seasons.
