Sergachev's knee just exploded tonighton a reverse hit from Lafreniere. He had just returned after missing 17 games with an LBI.

I'd say the Lightning just became aggressive D buyers.

EXCEPT THEY HAVE NOTHING TOTRADE HAHAHAHAHA SUCK ON THAT LOSERS!!!!!!!!!

We make a perfect trade partner then, as NOTHING is exactly what we want for Chiarot.

Heck no buddy, Big Ben is literally BUILT for the playoffs. Game 1 of the postseason aggravated assault becomes legal, and then Chia will reveal his true power level.

I've actually really liked Chiarot this season. I might be wrong but it seems like Lalonde's defensive system really stresses keeping the opposition to the outside, keeping the crease clear, and letting Lyon see shots. He's a good enough fundamental goalie to make saves he can see. If this is the case, then Chiarot has value as a guy who can PK, move bodies from in front, can win battles on the boards, and who can use his skating to advance the puck out of the defensive zone. He definitely blunders from time to time pinching when he shouldn't but I'll take that for everything else he brings. I'd just rather see him paired with someone a little stronger than Petry (although apparently this pair has been quite good at suppressing high-danger chances against).

The playoffs let you wreck shops? I forgot, it’s been so long…

I don’t care if he’s elevated himself one level above absolute suckage. If Stephen can get out from having him on this team for two more seasons after this , he should.

cuz Seider takes all the D zone starts.

Basically Seider's metrics suffer and in-turn makes everyone else's look decent.

If we could replace She-rot with Hanifin next year at a net cap swing of 3-4M that would be prettttty swanky

I agree. But I also think that our overall defensive scheme doesn't really hinge on keeping shot volume low as much as high-danger shot volume low. In which case everyone's possession metrics would be bad (which they are) but our GAA would be good (which it is for all but our December slump) and we'd be winning games (which we are).

Chiarot stinks.  It's easy to see.  39% corsi for with high offensive zone start and vs 2nd line and down opposition = eyeball test confirmed.  He stinks.  Vrana is Yzerman's biggest bust.  Chiarot's last 2 years wipl be Steve's 2nd biggest bust.  Chiarot's first 2 years have been worth it, as he has filled a void.  But we dont want him filling that void the next 2 years.  Edvinsson, ASP, Johansson need to be rotating in with Seider, Walman, Holl, and Maatta next year.  Trade Chiarot to Tampa with 1/2 salary retained for their 2nd and 4th round picks in the 2025 draft.

What do we think of Tanev?

I think Yzerman would be wise to avoid this bidding war. The very marginal upgrade over Petry or Holl on the right side would not justify the asking price.

Tanev is this year's 2022 Chiarot

Some GM is going to be filled with deep sorrow and regret this summer and it won't be Craig Conroy

Tanev is good but old and on an expiring contract. I think he's the kind of a piece that someone like Toronto or Colorado puts in place as a final piece before a Cup run. Even if we make the playoffs this year I think we're still a few years away from really competing. As such, I don't see Tanev being a fit for us.

I'll take Stamkos.

While I agree with the first part, Tanev would be a significant defensive upgrade over Holl and Petry.

Imagine thinking we're not winning the Cup this year. Couldn't be me.

Can't remember where I read this, but I Lalonde did an interview/podcast and he said he'd like to see us add a centerman who can play play different roles if needed, or something like that.

We already have 4 of those.

Quote

Head coach Derek Lalonde went on 97.1 The Tickets' Stoney and Jansen with Heather show on Thursday and talked about how he hopes Yzerman adds a utility forward, someone who can play center and the wing. Lalonde was swift to mention that it's more of a wishlist thing than reality, knowing that Yzerman is still in the rebuilding process and will be reluctant to trade off any young assets or draft capital to add a rental when it seems Detroit has been overachieving a bit.

"He’ll do the right thing if it makes sense, but I think it’s more important if it makes sense going forward," said Lalonde. "So (another forward) will be the wishlist, but I think we’re also realistic on, we’re still in the middle of a process here, which is the right thing to do." I do think, as a group, why we’re having success is the patience and leadership of Steve Yzerman over time," said Lalonde. "You have to build through the draft. This isn’t done overnight. Are we ready to be a legit Stanley Cup contender? I don’t know. We’re probably overachieving on where our talent is, which is a huge credit to our guys. So I think we’re probably still going to build this thing."

Make of that what you will. I'm wondering whether Compher's been playing hurt; he hasn't looked right since he came back, and he was out for a bit.

Lalonde needs to STFU.  Just keep Chiarot, Gost, and Petry off the ice.

The more I think about it the more I think Yzerman makes one or two trady-poohs.

He'll never have Mo n Ray n Kane n Ras n Walman this cheap at the same time ever again.

Upgrade the D and add a top 6 winger.

Konecny and one of Hanifin/Chychrun

I've seen (unsubstantiated) rumors online that Pavel Buchnevich might be dealt by St. Louis. He'd be a really really good get. I also like Marcus Pettersson from Pittsburgh as a lower cost option to Hanifin and Chychrun.

Buchnevich-Larkin-Raymond

Debrincat-Compher-Kane

Ras-Copp-Fischer

Perron-Veleno-Sprong

Fabbri/Kostin

Word. A playoff-caliber team with cap flexibility and two young core players still on their ELCs is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for a franchise to make some magic. And the team's starting to believe in itself. It's clawing out wins against better teams. It's got momentum. Things are fun, exciting, meaningful again. Red Wings hockey is relevant again. Patrick Kane said "I want in on that" - and he's been great (and cheap), against all odds.

If we hold down a wildcard spot this month, I can't imagine Yzermanager doesn't make at least one big move. But the team has to make good on that. There can't be a collapse like last season. Earn it. Leave no doubt.

I love me some Buchnevich, but he feels like a pipe dream to me. The Blues are on a tear of late. 2nd wildcard in the West with 58 points. Basically us. So I've gotta think Armstrong wants to lean in as hard as he reasonably can. Made an in-season coaching change in 2019, went on a tear, won the Cup. "Why not again?"

So there's probably that factor with Buchnevich - on top of the fact that he's just a really good player. 6'1. 200 lbs. Proven producer. And term left on his contract.

All of this is to say: It'd be a king's ransom, no question.

Also worth considering: He'll be 29 in a couple months. I think if he's 25 or 26, Yzerman's probably all over him. But giving up key assets for someone's who's just about 30? I dunno. Doesn't feel like an Yzerman move.

Pettersson intrigues me.

Raymond and Seider will become part of the high dollar core SY builds around. Guy's like ASP will be where he pushes the envelope with his ELC advantage.

The more I think about it, SY does the same as last year.
