I guess we have to ask ourselves then if we trade Berggren for a top 4 D, are we taking a bigger step forward in the NHL, or are we taking a bigger step back when it comes to prospects.

Chychrun being 25 definitely becomes one of our core players, but is there enough fwd prospects to make up for the potential loss of Berggren?

I'm not sure we can call Berggren a prospect at this point. He seems to be more like an NHLer who Yzerman simply isn't all that high on (anymore), if only because we have a pretty deep forward group and he's become kinda redundant. Maybe that's a misread on my part. But I do feel like the shine has faded, at least in Yzerman's eyes.

Chychrun's a very good point-producing defenseman. If we could get him for a 1st + Berggren + Wallinder, I'd do it in a heartbeat. He'd immediately become our second-best defenseman. My one concern with him, long-term, is that he's always hurt. But, point is, I'd take my chances if the package is largely centered on Berggren.

9 scouts in Grand Rapids tonight.

Heres an interesting one.

Detroit has been heavily scouting Boston recently.

Not sure if this means anything for the TDL. But it wouldnt surprise me if SY makes a move to pry Swayman out of there in the near future...

According to The Athletic's trade board, Pittsburgh is shopping Reilly Smith. Anyone who has been around LGW for a while knows I love me some Reilly Smith. I'd imagine the acquisition cost would be reasonable too considering Pittsburgh has no picks or prospects in their organization at the moment and Dubas has so idiotically built this team that it's become necessary to strip the thing for parts less than a year after his "master plan" was initiated.

Talk about a dude with playoff experience.

I never cease to be amazed by this whiz kid. He's doing the same thing he did in Toronto, but with players that are 12 years older. What a brilliant hockey mind.

He might. But.it wont be Kakko for the reasons I have already said.

Here's another reason why it won't be Kakko: He's a f*cking loser. I swear Red Wings fans drive me crazy sometimes.

Fans: Michael Rasmussen is a bum who never lived up to his draft position. He scores at a .4 ppg rate and Yzerman needs to give him a "change of scenery".

Also fans: Now that Puljujarvi is off the market we should target Kakko. I mean, he scores at a .4 ppg rate and just needs a change in scenery to thrive. Yay!!!

I guess Wings scouts could have also been scouting Boston's opponents now that I think about it.

Based on what Adam Kerr from the grindline podcast reported this would have been Calgary, Seattle, Washington, and LA.

Can't say that I blame him though...Chances are he'd likely be a roster player on most teams in this league...I'd likely want out too if I were in his position.

If they continue to play with fire by icing a lineup with a number of mid vets leaving prospects in the AHL, this will happen again.

Oh please. Bergrren is the 1st prospect they've done this with. Too much Johnny hype around here these days tbh

Beggren would have more worth if we played him. We are going to get less because we didn't.  He seems to me like he will be pretty productive elsewhere.

Not angry about it, but probably not the best handling of things on SY's part.

Sure maybe. Maybe not.

Not what Mack and I were talking about though.

I'm not really sure we can jump from "Berggren didn't sign THIS contract" to "Berggren doesn't want to sign ANY contract". Players reject initial offers all the time. Team offers them a two-year deal, they turn it down because they want three. Team offers a two-way contract, they turn it down because they want a one way deal. If I recall correctly Larkin turned down a few deals before settling in on the one he signed.

I DO think it's likely Berggren gets moved, but I already thought that before this "report" came out. Turning down a contract offer doesn't mean anything. I can't imagine Rasmussen put pen to paper on the very first deal Yzerman threw his way either. There's a reason why we have a word for "counter offer".
