13 of 14 pts.  And besides Chiarot and Petry, our D is tightening up real nice.  Maatta and Holl are a really good 3rd pairing for some reason.  They seem to compliment each other well.  At 5-6 mil a season for the pair, Im a big fan.

I've been saying these two should definitely play before ghost and petry. Ghost is getting exposed on the pp how many times is Derek gonna watch somebody skate past this guy before he gives someone else a shot. Also how much longer is Walman out?

That was the best Ras looked all year, maybe he finally has his legs back? He looked possessed out there lol

Takes him until January to warm up. Same as last year.

Hot take: If Ras stays healthy - Wings make the playoffs

Great game for us, but without Lyon, this would have just been another loss where we appeared to play well.    Lyon makes the team Not want to let him down.

Husso was the same at various points in his tenure.  The defense usually gives up too many good chances, requiring their goalie to be better than average most nights to win.  The good news is the offense scores enough goals most nights to win.

He's been outstanding, hopefully with Hussos time off he got his fire burning again.

Lyon would get my vote so far.    I never played at a high level, but I always found it pretty frustrating when your line and the other lines are busting it 5v5 to not give up any goals while trying to be a +1, only to have a muckin sieve of a goalie take all the air out of your sails.

This. Defense and net still aint great. But the difference this year is we can actually score a reasonable amount for once.

Thats why taking our feet off the gas in the 3rd was so frustrating all nov and dec. We cannot afford to do that. We need to be all gas and no breaks, cause we will not win a defensive standoff.

Folks can complain about Ghost all they want, but our offense is chugging because of additions like him. Another Maata in his place would have been redundant.

This. Lyon has been good lately, but the team is playing really well in front of him. His biggest contribution is the fact that the team has enough confidence in him that they can play the run and gun game they want to play. When our boys aren't sure their goalie can make a save they play more conservatively. That doesn't play to our strengths as a team. We're at our best when we play fast and aggressive. Can't do that if you aren't sure your goalie has your back.

It was hard fought but Lyon rose to the top and through his play has convinced his teammates he's got their backs. I'm all in on this guy. He may not be the best goalie but he's the right one for this team right now.

Skaters playing differently because of the goalie is a completely regarded fan myth.

Nah, it’s true. They play differently for all kinds of reasons. They’re very susceptible to superstition because they’re so particular about how they mentally prepare. No reason to think that they wouldn’t worry about a soft goalie just as much as they worry about how they tape their stick or lace their skates.
