    Steve Yzerman

He's just trying to make the lyrics of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" more believable by creating "South Detroit".

    NHL.com Newest mock draft

I believe it works like this: SC winner = 30 Runner-up = 29 Conference runners-up = 27 & 28 Then any remaining division winners take the next 2-6 picks After that, it goes in order by points, with the lottery winner moving up 4 spots max. Wings had the 7th most points, putting them in the 24th spot. But Philly, Montreal (conference finalists), and Buffalo (division winner) all move behind us, putting us in 21st.

    Great or Bust?

Hartnells always been a hard working player though, ur the one being blinded. Ville leino saved scott hartbell LOL. ''Then came ville leino'' lol Explain why Leino didnt play good in Detroit? Hes a streaky player, but hes nothing special, he will be a 3rd liner for most of his career, or a 2nd liner on a s***ty team.

There's something to be said for being drafted outside the first round... too many high draft pick kids think they're big s*** before they've even played a game in the NHL. I wish a few more of the first round busts of recent years could sit some of these kids down and tell them that all they've done is get their foot in the door. Smith has no reason to think he's such hot s***. He's three years past his draft year and hasn't played a single game of NHL hockey. He was considered a shoe in for the top three Hobbey Baker finalists but got snubbed because his defensive game wasn't dominant (although he's definitely improved it each year). Aside from last season he's yet to show us why he was drafted in the 1st. Smith needs to put up or shut up in the AHL. He should save any arrogance for when he's shown himself to be an elite prospect playing against men. And for the record-- Tatar has more reason to be cocky than Smith. Tatar was the youngest player in the AHL. He was the first Wings prospect to play in the AHL in his draft year since they started their affiliation with the Griffins. Tatar was a star for his home country at the WJ. What has Smith done aside from last season? I think Smith has the potential to be a top pairing defenseman but he's got to put some serious muscle on his frame and he's got to show that he has the same top end game against men.

    Brad Winchester

I don't typically post in these 'what about this guy' threads? But Winchester would be a solid off season pick up. Hopefully he wouldn't expect a substantial increase in pay.

Honestly, I wouldn't even have an issue with Brendan Smith if it didn't happen multiple times. The kid's got tons of talent and it'd be a shame if it got wasted because he got wasted.

    Favorite Announcers

Thorne and Clement were solid. I've also always liked Jim Hughson. I've also always had a soft spot for Panger, although I'll admit that it may be due to his playing time in Saginaw (my original hometown) and friendship with Yzerman. This one will be wildly unpopular, but I seriously enjoy watching Pierre McGuire. The guy is an encyclopedia and loves the game more than just about anyone else I've seen -- he's also a huge weirdo and excels at making his broadcast partners and interview subjects uncomfortable. I may not agree with most of what he says, but manoman is that little freak entertaining. Oh, and Mickey, Dave and Ken, of course!

    Steve Yzerman

Two guys so far. I doubt his attempts to remove pieces of the Wings organization and move them to Tampa will slow with time. This is the worst time for him to go after Wings assets. Just wait until the dust settles. If he's willing to go after people in the first week you can bet he'll be contacting more and more people over the next few years. Maybe you're ok with someone actively trying to disassemble the Wings organization using the inside knowledge they gained as an employee. I'm sure Tampa's ok with that because that's definitely in their best interests. As long as they guy screwing you is someone you loved as a player it's ok?

    Steve Yzerman

I honestly hope Yzerman stays away from trying to sign Wings management and employees for the remainder of his career in TB. If he becomes a vulture circling the management for the next 10 years it will definitely get on my nerves. The Wings let him move on and gave him their blessing. That doesn't mean it's cool for him to start picking away at this team's structure looking for people he can lure away from the Wings. Please Stevie-- leave Wings employees alone until they've clearly been released by the team. I'm tired of reading news clippings saying you've asked for permission to talk to X. f*** off with the poaching. There are 28 NHL teams a many more other pro hockey organizations to look for employees. Your inside knowledge of the Wings organization gives an unfair advantage (bordering on tampering) and raiding the organization that employed you for more than two decades is an extremely aggressive move to make against people that used to be your friends. Please move on and look for staff elsewhere... we just want to see our team left in peace.

No where did I say he's been a s***head in these playoffs. He's just known as a goon. I'm still lost as to why people hate Hossa so much. Alot of reaching going on.

For those who are trying to figure out Bertuzzi's potential contract... Holland has signed Lidstrom and Holmstrom, and has stated he will make qualifying offers to all of his RFAs, all before turning his attention to Bertuzzi. This means our roster could potentially look like this when negotiations with Bertuzzi begin: FORWARDS Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($?.???m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Patrick Eaves ($0.550m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.893m) / Darren Helm ($0.659m) / Drew Miller ($0.578m) Kris Draper ($1.583m) Mattias Ritola ($0.517m) DEFENSEMEN Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Derek Meech ($0.532m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) Chris Osgood ($1.417m) ROSTER: 22; CAP: $56.8m/$58.8m; PAYROLL: $55.467m; CAP ROOM: $1.333m/$3.333m So Bertuzzi's contract could be anywhere from $1m to $3m depending on the cap and RFA negotiations. Not unrealistic that he could be kept, but what role would he have? In the lines I listed above, I put together three strong scoring lines. However, two minor changes (Hudler and Franzen for Filppula and Bertuzzi) shift Bertuzzi to a role on a checking third line with a clear secondary scoring role, rather than a line that would be relied on for primary scoring.

    Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

For all we know, Leino would've never done what he's doing now here. We're a far different team than Philly. He could've hurt us more by staying than if he left. I'm just glad he's contributing to beating Chicago. I don't think it's entirely unrealistic to say that if he doesn't tie the game instantly in game 3, the Hawks clinch the Cup then and there. All it would've taken would've been a few minutes of doubt and uncertainty creeping into the Flyer's collective mindset and they likely wouldn't have tied it. They lose there, and go down 3-1, you can pretty much kiss their chances goodbye. Yes, it's possible it doesn't unfold that way, but if Leino doesn't tie it that quickly, I think that would've been the most likely scenario.

    Yzerman also wanting Pat Verbeek

You are acting like it is a deplorable move and how I'm "painting" it as a cool move. Yzerman should do whatever it takes to improve his team. If Holland doesn't like it he can deny him access to certain members of his staff. There is nothing wrong with any of this. Stop getting up in arms about it especially since Yzerman just opened up shop in Tampa and needs people to work for him.
