When we saw Pav and Z play together this year they really didn't look all that great. With Babs hell bent on keeping them apart, I've been wondering about whether or not they'll ever be able to recreate the magic. YT has 'Top Plays with Lecavalier and St. Louis' and I thought, "Why don't they have one of these for Datsyuk and Zetterberg?" So to the best of my ability and access to footage as a fan, I made one myself. Even though the NHL doesn't have footage stored from 02-03 or 03-04, I feel as if I remember those years fairly well enough that I'm not missing a goal when it comes to pretty plays between the two. Yeah, couldn't really hate a thing about Scott Stevens. If you played defense, every single coach would want to mold you into what this guy did (maybe not youth lol). One of the last true warriors this game has seen and may ever.

its the money he wants not the 17 years. Its pretty obvious he would not have play all seventeen years. He was just manipulating the cap. Offer him the 102 million for around 10 years and it will basically be the same nhl contract.

I'm not a sports fan. Don't know dick about baseball, football, or basketball. I don't know the teams, stats, players, and barely the rules. Superbowl parties are about as far as I stray from hockey. I like the beer involved. I'm not really a hockey fan. I don't watch any games that aren't redwings related. 15 th ranked prospect in a low league game being televised..... Sure. I'm in. Incredibly exciting game 7 Stanley cup final game without the wings..... Hells no. My season ends when the wings does. I have center ice and watch 82 games every regular seaon. That's plenty. It's not even the logo.... It's the 23 that make it up every year. I'll keep tabs on former wings..... Fedorov. Kozzie. Yzerman in a management role.... Sure. But all my rooting is for the wings.

this just brings up another relevant point in the NHL. what makes a player worth 3 mil? the salary cap was brought in to keep players contracts in perspective. owners are telling GM's they want a player and telling them to wave money in their face. arbitrators are also overpaying some players. NHL stars are also overpaid due to the fact that supporting casts make a team successful, not the 1 or 2 guys putting up 100 pts and the next guy on the team pots 50 pts and expects 4 mil/year. most teams are up against the cap and trying to shave salary because they throw money around without real thought...campbell, briere etc. how much do i currently think frolov is worth? 2mil/year. am i glad holland didn't get any ideas and try to sign him? yes. all this talk about discounts the wings get with players is absurd. holland manages the cap properly and pays most players what they are worth. other GM's should take note. not go out and throw offer sheets to guys like penner 4mil/year as an RFA. it's s*** like that that's making it hard for anyone to predict what a player is worth.

Horrible list. No Stamkos? Koivu over Getzlaf, Thornton, and Backstrom? Toews at number 4? Seriously if Mikko Koivu is the 7th best center in the league then by next season's end Flip is a top 20 center...

To be clear, in 2004 the players didn't sit out as a bargaining tactic. They were locked out by the owners and prevented from playing. At the time the owners did a great job of painting the players as greedy and killing the NHL, but even under the cap it's become pretty clear that several owners are just unable to control themselves when it comes to contracts, and others just don't know how to ice a competitive team in spite of the cap and revenue sharing. Here's an interesting point from the article: More than even the new NHLPA president, I think it's up to Bettman if we lose another season. Last time the tone he set was divisive right from the get go. They were intent on breaking the players union and nothing short of a lost season would've done that.

Sarcasm mode off. Helm and Abby have worked hard to make the team, and make the team they will. No one is promised anything. A contract does not mean that you can't be traded or that you won't be sitting in the press box. Only training camp can decide that. If they spend one single year at the beginning of their careers on the fourth line, is this going to stunt them any? I say no. If they are better than Modano, then they will rise to the third line. If not, then they stay on the fourth. Of course they want to push up in the line-up. All players want to be at the top. This is just one more runner to pass in the race. Competition is a good thing. If we get Modano, great. If not, great. Either way, we have enough forwards to cover the positions. Adding Modano only means that the competition goes higher.

Hes not a forward... Defenceman get payed alot more because of the amount of ice time they get. Grebeshkov is a #1 on alot of teams, and a #2 on most.

So you would like to see hits lose all hints of violence, and just turn the hitting into rub out or poke checks? The type of player that can hit like Stevens yet remain defensively sound is extremely rare, I really don't see the need to penalize part of the game that is entertaining, and effective not to mention completely subjective and excessively hard to make rulings unless you just ban hitting. I would agree that some of hits deserved more discipline, but I'd still love to see another Scott Stevens in the NHL today(especially if he's on the Wings). Also don't forget a lot of people say Kronwall's hits are intent to injure too and that he jumps, it's a very hard concept to make a general rule about.

Not to pull a Carman, but is extremely evident that Crosby's all around game has improved tremendously since then, most notciably his two-way presence and face-offs. On the same token, I think many fans outside of the Wing's loyal would consider Zetterberg and Datsyuk to have declined in effectiveness since then. Not saying I agree, but that is the general consensus among other fans.
