3 pointsWow seems like a lot of people are really down on Commodore. He had a bad season people where he got waived and now all of a sudden noone thinks he is even capable of staying out of the pressbox? The guy still played almost 20 mins a night the last few years when he was in the lineup, almost 3 minutes a night short handed, and is much better offensively than Salei. Sure Commodore isnt super fast but hes just as good of a skater as Salei, is used to playing 19 minutes a night compared to Saleis 16, plays more pk time and is a big, mean player who can hit hard and will fight light heavyweights. He is basically salei with more offense and a much bigger mean streak. Just bec ause he tried to take a wings player head off and fell into the bench doesnt mean hes a god awful player. At least he has that mean streak to go and try to light a guy up like that. Not to mention prior to going to CBJ, Commodore was one of the better stay at home types in the league playing a big part in 2 cup runs for Carolina and Calgary. If theres a team that can help him find that form again, its Detroit. Look what they did with Lilja who was a similar guy, who was even worse than Commy when he came to Detroit. People need to give him a chance instead of watching him fly into the bench on one youtube video to decide hes a bum. When he does this to tools like avery everyone will sing a different tune.. or stiicks up for the goalie like this Not to mention guys liek Ericcson and abdelkader will play tougher because they know a 6'5 Canadian mean SOB will be backing them up

3 pointsI dunno...I guess it's good for depth. I don't really care if it's on a one year basis. Here's my complaint though. I love the Wings, but these "filler" players are becoming annoying. At first I understood that it was due to the salary cap, but as time goes on and it seems to be affecting us more and taking up more roster space, I'm a little less convinced. Particularly given the cap space we now have. Players like Bertuzzi, Hudler, Miller (because he's redundant, not because he's useless) and (sadly, as of recently) Holmstrom. These are players that don't necessarily hurt the roster, but they're not actively helping us win. It feels like they're just...there. They adequately fill a roster spot, and as is so important to Holland, we haven't over-paid them. I understand that this won't change this season, so why not add another one in Drury? But after the contracts of Bertuzzi, Holmstrom and Hudler are up, I want them all gone. And if we sign Drury, I want him gone too. (Sorry to Holmstrom, who is one of my favorite Wings of the past decade, but it's time to retire.) Those are my hopes for next off-season. And I will be so pissed if Drury screws that up.

Wings looking to sign Drury?
Hockeymom1960 reacted to KDDRWINGS1 for a post in a topic
For a one year deal between $1.5-2 million he could be a steal if he's healthy. He didn't get bought out because he sucks, it was because he wasn't worth his salary especially because he wasn't healthy. Do it Kenny. -

I saw White a lot with the Leafs and thought he was pretty good on a lousy team. Don't know why Calgary and Carolina gave up on him but he looked good with the Sharks last year. As for his attitude, which some said was lousy as a junior player, a writer for the San Jose Mercury wrote recently that he was the first player he ever recalled who went out of his way at the end of the season to say goodbye to the PR staff and the writers who were around. In any case, the price was right. You don't want a bunch of expensive long-term contracts when the current CBA expires especially if the the NFL and NBA owners hammer out hard caps with their players. That would mean the NHL owners would want similar concessions and a much lower cap. I can believe how much some NHL teams paid long-term for average players. I guess it was because of the law of supply and demand and because the minimum cap is now $48 million forcing poorer teams to spend money. -

Yes please! 1 year 1.5 million I could take it. He was injured all of last year basically. Still has it in him. -

Forward lines next season?
13dangledangle reacted to Superman54 for a post in a topic
TBH i like the first suggestion there, with bert playing on the 4th line. I just didn't want to have both Holmstrom or Bertuzzi in the top 6, or even the bottom 6 together either. Having Bert with Abs could actually turn out to be a positive thing, the speedy Mursak wouldn't hurt either. Then Helm and Eaves can play together which seems to do them good, and if Cleary plays as good as he did last year, that becomes a very strong checking line. -

In that case, I apologize for it being in reply to your post as it not entirely directed at you... as you've missed a LOT of asinine, knee jerk over-reactions over these past 7 weeks, just go back and read some of the threads and you'll see where I'm coming from...however, the whole context of my post was not directed entirely at you... With that said, I still think your post specifically was a little bit of an over-reaction to our current situation... the holes we still need to fill are minor and nothing to be concerned about... that was all I was getting at in response to you directly. -

July 3rd. I repeat... July 3rd. The goalie we're missing is a BACKUP The forward needs are debatable in the first place, but once again, July 3rd, and trades still exist. Coaches are Babs decision, and unless they're not there come training camp, that's hardly something to get worked up about... Once again, I re-itterate. Be patient... I feel like a damn grief counselor, talking people off buildings on this board around this time of year... -

Holland Appreciation Thread

Bump July 1st Kenny Holland was the worse GM in the world. July 2nd Kenny Holland was brilliant and methodical. Funny how that works. So far Wings got bigger, faster and younger... and still have over $7 million ($10 million if they move Hudler) left over to spend. -

And to think we could have had Franson if we only kept Lebda. Way to do nothing, Holland. -
1 pointThe only other dman of any merit who wasn't overrpaid this off season was Eric Brewer. I think Holland got the most bang for his buck as far as defensive spending (White, Commy, Big Rig). I say this and I HATE Ercissons contract but in respect to the entire situation we are better defensivily than we were last year, younger and bigger. Plus we don't know how much of a negative effect McCrimmon had on our defense and with a new D coach a lot of people will probably be quite pleased. Like I said last page though, I'd love for a big mean son of a *****, if that happens, helm/Murzak/Abby will be running people through the freakin boards.

Comments like this irritate the hell out of me. Like Holland wouldn't have paid $1.5 for Vokoun in a heartbeat. Like he didn't atleast check with Vokoun's camp. I know its rocket science but do you think perhaps the fact that Vokoun would be the undisputed number 1 had anything to do with him not considering Detroit? Nevermind, lets just go on hating on Holland for making one slightly large overpayment given the market. -

BTW, he blocked 144 shots last season. Detroit's best was Kronwall with 129 blocks. -
1 pointHmmm. Do you maybe not like this guy? Three posts in less than ten minutes. Tell us how you really feel. I'm sure all you Negative Nancys out there think this was Holland's first phone call all off-season. So, I'll leave you to your endless bitching. I am satisfied with this signing in both term and price and I think some of you may be surprised how this signing turns out.
