The numbers say absolutely, but I vote no. Full disclosure: Never liked the guy in his first stint with the Wings. He won me over to a point with his play in the 08 playoffs--he was fantastic. I respect the way that he stuck with it and ultimately had a triumphant return in Detroit. It's pretty impressive to have the two best seasons of your career more than a decade apart. Quite honestly, had Detroit won Game 7 against the Pens in 09, there's no argument against putting him in. Maybe that's unfair to hang so much on one game, but three Cups as a starter and top 10 in wins has to get you in, regardless of how good the team you played on was. I'd put him in if for no other reason than keeping Cindy's name off the Cup. But there are a couple of reasons I vote no, and they don't have anything to do with the lame "It was just the team" argument. 1) I just can't see putting a guy in the HHOF who had 2 or 3 years tops where he could be considered a top-5 goalie in the league. 95-96 and 07-08. It's pretty remarkable that he did it more than a decade apart, but that's really it. I'm sure people could make a case for another season or two, and that's fine, but I feel the HHOF should be for the elite. He got to that level for a couple of seasons, but certainly didn't sustain it for any amount of time. 2) Moreso, though, I just keep coming back to this. If you consider him a HHOFer, then the story goes like this: The Red Wings had a 28 year old future Hall of Famer. When a 36(ish)-year-old future Hall of Famer in Dominik Hasek came on the market the Wings couldn't jump on him fast enough. So then they had a 28-year-old future HOFer that was available. Surely teams would fall over themselves lining up and Detroit would get a nice return? Didn't happen. We got nothing in return. What happened after that? (And I'm trying to be as balanced as possible with these evaluations) 01-02: Good season for the Islanders 02-03: Save % below .900. Bad. 03-04: Really good season for the Blues. 05-06: Save % below .900 for the Wings. Bad. 06-07: Meh. Pretty good numbers, but didn't play much. 07-08: Fantastic season. I'd probably argue that it was the best year of his career. 08-09: Career worst in GAA. Career low in Save %. Great run in the playoffs. 09-10: Below .500, a 3+ GAA, sub 89 save percentage. Didn't play a ton, but ugh. 10-11: Barely played, nothing special. So you've got three really good seasons over the last decade of his career, a couple with a lack of games played, and 2-3 that were somewhere between subpar and awful. I don't think anyone would've argued back in 01 that he was on his way to the HHOF and when you look at it, he really didn't help the resume all that much once he left. The Cup was huge, but he didn't have himself a great decade there... He was a good goalie, but I think the HHOF should be for the best of the best. There's what? 30 players in there who primarily played goalie? The win total puts him there, but I just don't think you can make a case for him as one of the 30 best netminders to ever play. I'd say about 1990 is when I can really start to remember watching hockey, which means right now there are 3 goalies that I've seen play in the HHOF. Roy, Fuhr, Belfour. We know Hasek and Brodeur are locks. I can't put Osgood up there with those guys. Those were the guys you feared going up against. I don't think Osgood ever got to that point, even though he had some great years and finished off a couple of them with Cup wins. But the one Vezina nomination, and the 3 All-Star games (two that he played in) are kind of glaring. Also, maybe it doesn't mean much, but the lack of any international play doesn't help. Really good at times, but not elite. Is it possible for someone to simultaneously be one of the most overrated and underrated/underappreciated players in history? I do think that there are groups of Wings fans that drastically overrate him. At the same time, I think there's a much larger group of people who simply write off his successes to the team in front of him, which is a mistake, especially after seeing what he did in 08. It just seems like there's a pretty high standard for goalies. I don't consider him a HHOFer, but that doesn't diminish what he accomplished in his career one bit. Wow, that post got really long in a hurry. It's been awhile!

I feel like I'm on hfboards and LGW at least an hour or so everyday looking for any news on the Wings. I think its just that I've learned so much about all the players and all the prospects, the coaches, the strategies they use and everything. Its just so deep and interesting to me, and I'm always just looking for anything that looks promising for the future of the Wings. I really think the best job in the world would be the GM of a sports team, specifically the Red Wings.

Are you addicted to the Red Wings?

Addiction is becoming an extremely overused term. I view addiction as things you wish you could quit, but are unable to. Nicotine is an addiction... Liquor can be an addiction... Sports you can turn off the TV...

Inside the Detroit Red Wings offices: Holland: Okay, now that Ozzie's retired, we need to the address the backup 'tender slot. Whose available? Some Guy: Conklin's out there. Ray Emery. And....well...giggle...Turco. Everyone laughs for twenty minutes straight. Holland: That was genius. Bonus for you this year. Now, lets take anyone off the list that's only won in our building once in like a billion years.

Looks like crap. Should stick with the old one.

One stat everyone keeps failing to mention - A few years ago the Dallas Ice Girls voted on the cutest goalie in the league. Yep that's right. Osgood won it. Look at any of the other goalies in the HoF. None of them have that particular distinguished accomplishment on their career resumes.

Why would they use the maple leaf? I get that they are a Canadian team and that they will never win a Cup, but why do they need to further associate themselves with Toronto.

I understand that and wasn't saying he should have made a trade persay, rather illustrating that there were other routes a GM could take to bring a guy in opposed to free agency. I also agree with you about our traceable assets, or the lack thereof. All that said, I gave him a C because we didn't get Amy better as a team -- which in my opinion would warrant an A or B. On the flipside, I don't think we got worse as a team or let anyone "get away" -- if that was the case I would have given him a D or an F. He did an average job, which is a C. Nothing horrible, nothing great, but average.

    Draper or Hudler?

Draper for sure. He may be older, but he knows his role, does it well, and does it with confidence. The same can't be said with Hudler.

    Jimmy Howard Debate Thread

I have faith in Jimmy. Sure he has had his ups and downs but he's only got two years under his belt. If he can play this season near the level that he left off in the playoffs then I could see him getting Vezina consideration. And I don't care about the soft goals he has let in, if Lolongo can get Vancouver to game 7 in the finals, Jimmy can win the cup for the Wings.

    Jimmy Howard Debate Thread

I would. He's very solid. Gives up some weak shots, but all goalies do. He seems mentally strong which is HUGE in today's NHL among goaltenders. He's gotten his rebound control under....well control.

    Winnipeg Jets' New Logo

The traditional Royal Canadian Air Force emblem is a blue roundel with a maple leaf and Winnipeg has had a strong association with the RCAF, so in the case of the Jets there's actually a legitimate reason for having it beyond 'it looks old-timey'. Speaking of which, if the uniforms have a vintage-military-hockey-club feel to them it could actually look pretty damn good.

Excellent! Once in a while we get a goalie who can actually stop pucks any goalie should stop. With Jimmy Howard any soft wrister from the blue line could be a goal. Last time I had such good feeling was in 2008 when... Ty Concklin played for us.

I always feel nervous when someone fires a shot at Jimmy. I can only imagine what players feel. If I were a Red Wings player I wouldn't believe Jimmy at all.

    Jimmy Howard Debate Thread

Fuuuuuuuck! Well, perhaps, statistics say otherwise... Yes, I mentioned it, that's my mistake. Can you name me a person who would feel safe going with Howard to Game 7 of SCF? He is going to let pucks in. Period. Red Wings somehow need to deal with it scoring, scoring and scoring. I remember (I bet you too) those times when our goalie didn't let pucks in in a game just because he played good not because a team in from of him played excellent. These were 97 and 2001-2002 season. Since then we have Howard-like goalies. PS Notice, I'm not going to ask you how to "watch hell-lot-more than 70 games". Simply because it is no more than 106 every season for SC finalist.

    Draper or Hudler?

He wasn't productive in the SJ series at all. I do care if the Wings win or lose. That is why I would rather have someone with heart, determination, leadership than a very very very streaky "top-six" winger. In their respective roles, Draper did better job at his. Hudler's only value to the Wings right now is that other teams might accept him via a trade, that's about it.

    Winnipeg Jets' New Logo

The use of the maple leaf calls back to old Royal Canadian Air Force flier patches. As seen in the ideation portion of the brand book that they posted on the website. You can see the theme repeated throughout the logos seen on the page. To me, it just reinforces how badly they missed the mark. They tried to create a vector update of a classic looking badge and included only enough detail to put on display how much detail it truly lacks. It appears unfinished. I don't know why it doesn't say Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club around the crest, either. It honestly looks like it was put in the hands of someone that isn't strong with Illustrator.

    Winnipeg Jets' New Logo

I actually don't mind it- I think its a decent logo but in all honesty, it could look brilliant or terrible on a uniform. I want to see it on a jersey with all the patchwork before I decide. At first glance, i think it looks ok. Its certianly 100 percent better than the thrashers scary psycho bird they had!

Is Ozzie a HHOF goalie? No. Does he have HHOF numbers? Yes. Will he get in? Yes.

    Jimmy Howard Debate Thread

---- EDIT By NFM25: This thread was created because I want to continue this discussion and it belongs in its own thread, not the one regarding the Ty Conklin Signing. ---- plays like below is what I'm talking about Shootouts are another story. In most of those Howard allowed two goals which is unacceptable. PS BTW Couture scored exactly the same garbage in 2010 play-offs to win Game 3 for SJS.
