    3/6 GDT : Red Wings 2 at Flyers 3

Join the club. Fans can be upset, I scream at my TV for 2-1/2 hours straight for some games, but in the end I really do wonder how some people say they support the Wings in any facet when all they do is rip on them 24/7, even when they are playing well, leading the division, the conference, the league. I suppose some people are just destined to be miserable. A few SNs come to mind.

Why are people afraid of playing Nashville in the first round? If we can't beat them, then who are we kidding about a possible Cup run? I'd rather play them over Chicago or San Jose.

Wrong. Did you even read the link you provided? The position of his arms is called the fencing response and tends to indicate that you just got knocked the f*** out. Don't you ever watch boxing or mma? Voracek only had his arms raised for a split second and was immediately conscious and on his knees. He might have a slight concussion, if at all.

How have we not blamed Peters and Blashill yet? Wings forums were pretty rough on McCrimmon (RIP). I guess it's because the 5 on 5 play has been better this year. Hmm... What if they both took a page out of Tortorella's book? "What is the remedy?... Play f***in' harder."

I'm one who thinks Kronwall has been guilty of leaving his feet and not keeping his elbows tucked on a fair amount of his hits in the past, but this looks legal to me. Brutal, but legal. His skates are down, he didn't leap. He hits the head but he also catches him full on in the body. Shanny specifically showed videos of how there can be legal hits that contact the head.

The Power Play is aabout as predictable as the sun coming up each day. That fallowed by the fact when they do get it past the wall of defenders at the blue line our wingers usually lose the battle in the corners. The big shot from the point fallowed by the Homer tip in, is getting old. Every team in the league knows this is the plan. So what needs to happen to fix it? I think Babcock and co. need to come up with a new system or new style of attack on the PP. We need a Brett Hull looking for open ice for a big shot from the circles as well as going to the point. The best PP is the ablility of having lots of options. Shoot the freeking puck would be a start.

I like the responses that fail to see that the return of Lidstrom and Pav and the addition of Quincey on the powerplay makes a ton of difference, considering he's been a point on a top power play and is clearly more well suited for that job than Hudler, whose addition to the second power play unit along the half boards is also likely to increase that units effectiveness considering if you take all the end to end skating and defense out of the game (which a power play essentially does) he's actually a really good player.

I will get excited about whatever I want. I already know Smith is going to rack up points regardless so him beating the tar out of someone again is like a cherry on top for me.

    Cleary, Bertuzzi, Hudler and Franzen

Last season, Cleary scored 26 goals whilst providing his usual hardworking, physical style of play plus good defensive play both at even strength and on the PK. If that qualifies as "damn near worthless" to you, then I'm not sure what planet you're living on.

Bottom line: On a team with the world's best player (Datsyuk) and the worlds' hardest working player (Helm), the rest of the team is going to look like s*** unless they're putting up career best numbers. Everyone's got a role to play, and by looking at the standings, they're playing it pretty well. Sure, some guys might not be putting up career numbers, but I can't think of a year that every single player on a team justified their salary/cap hit.* "That's the way she goes, boys. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't cause that's the f***in way she goes" *Edit: Of course, an argument can always be made for a players salary by winning the Cup I suppose.

Less Cute plays and more shots would be a starting point.

Not sure if that was sarcasm or not. Franzen's cap hit might be $3.95m but he is getting paid $5.25m, and given the security he was given with such a long-term contract, its fair to argue that he should be playing like closer to $6.0m. He got on the team by playing tough, physical, and responsible while going to the hard areas. He's been doing less and less of that since signing the contract. The production rates are down, but he has also made himself tremendously one-dimensional. Third year of an ELEVEN year front-loaded contract and he is already playing down to the cap hit. He better stay pretty damn consistent, otherwise I wonder how he'll be playing by the time he is actually making $3.95m (which will be in 5 years, for those wondering). Like GMRwings said, what happens when he plays uninterested and "bored" during the regular season (when everyone else is required to put in the effort) and he gets to playoffs and either doesn't perform, or like last year, gets injured? What are the Wings paying for then?

It looks like the playoffs will make or break Franzen here on LGW. His only defenders point to his past playoff performances as an excuse for his uninspiring work ethic all year. If he doesn't put up big playoff numbers, he won't have any defenders on this board at all. And I know he leads the team in goals, but his goal total isn't all that impressive. It's not like he has around 40 goals, and no one is close to him. Our goal scoring tends to be balanced throughout the lineup.

Shanny is a clown now. This is a clean check, what the league NEEDS to keep in the game. And I will not be surprised if it's suspended, when clearly it shouldn't be

It would be way cooler if we got two desperately needed points, regardless of whether or not someone fights.
