A lot of people are saying Semin has turned it around in terms of his work ethic, but I'd worried that he'd get a long term deal and he and Franzen would take turns seeing who could put in the least effort on a shift.

    Fedorov To Retire

He really was one of my favorite players, even through his holdout season. I really wish that he would have stayed. I can just see #91 in the rafters. As far as his new gig as a GM, I wish him luck but really don't foresee much success unless they have an unlimited budget. It's almost like taking a 20 year factory worker and making him CEO of Ford.

Babcock and Holland want to keep Homer.

If you pay so little attention to the Wings that you think Zetterberg played the wing this year, why should any of us take your opinion of our farm team any more seriously? From your assessment of prospects in the NHL the only ones that count are ones that will become an elite talent. I'm not saying Tatar will be our future #1 left winger. I think he'll be a great 3rd line left winger, or a good 2nd line winger once he gets a little stronger and that he's more valuable to the franchise than either Emmerton or Mursak.

Yeah, they've done a great job drafting and have a bunch of cups to back up the notion -- oh wait. Championships or nothing.

They sure mopped us up in that 2-1 OT romping they gave us, with TPH and Jimmy out of the lineup.

I don't want Semin at all, but I wouldn't throw a fit if we picked him up cheap. Semin would be smart to sign on with a good team for a year with a low contract, have another successful season, drive up his price again and hit the free agent market again. This is a very "what have you done lately" kind of league. He won't get very much this off season.

I don't disagree that the Rangers have done a good job bringing in young guys, but I don't think that means they scout and draft better. They have had a younger team over the last few seasons and there has been room for young guys in their organization to move up. Not so with the Wings. The only guy we've drafted since 2006 who sees regular minutes is Emmerton and even he probably wouldn't have been in the lineup as much as we was if not for injuries. This is not to say that we're not playing guys because they're bad, we're not playing guys because in the recent past we've had a veteran team who was able to compete successfully each years, so why bring new guys in? We've got a ton of young talent waiting in the fold and over the next couple of seasons as our old guys retire you're going to see more and more of our picks from 2007-2012 coming into the NHL, while New York will have fewer picks breaking their lineup during the same time frame because there won't be any place for them. In the post cap era, these waves are going to happen because you can't constantly fills holes through free agency, we just happen to have a nearly full lineup after the cap while the Rangers didn't.

Saw another story where Semin's said he wants to go somewhere he can increase the amount of responsibility he takes on including penalty kill time. Semin on the pk? No thank you. As far as signing him on the cheap, I don't see that happening. If he's looking to sign for big responsibilities/big minutes that also means big money. Buyer beware imo. I think ultimately, he'll chase the big money all the way to the KHL. If Kenny can't land Parise, it's time to give one of the youngsters like Nyquist or Tatar a chance instead.

The Rangers have done a very good job drafting, though it's worth mentioning that a few of the picks on your list are lower than any Detroit has had during that time span. The Wings earliest picks since 2005 are Kindl who was 19th overall, and admittedly has been a disappointment for that draft slot. Sheahan was 21st overall. Smith who's 21st overall, and McCollum who's 30th overall. 4 first round picks since 2005, and McCollum was the very last pick of the first round. Kreider, Del Zotto and Staal are all very good players but were also earlier picks than the Wings have had (except Kindl and Kreider both being #19), so I don't really consider those as gems the Wings missed. Kreider has played 13 games in the NHL and is doing well, but I think it's a bit premature to call him a future all star. But overall, I agree. The Rangers have done a helluva job with their picks. In terms of the Wings drafting, it gets sketchier and sketchier the deeper you go in the draft and they have just not had early picks. And I think the days of finding late round gems in Europe may be gone, or at least harder to come by. The Wings were at the forefront of that, but other franchises have caught up. It's why Kindl is such a disappointment to me. He's the best pick they've had in a long time and at 25 years old barely looks NHL ready. Wow. I never realized Henrik was drafted that late. With their third pick that year the Wings took Stefan Liv. Talk about drafting the wrong Swedish goaltender. Ouch.

No to Semin. Holland needs to go all in for Parise. He's the top priority.

How in the world does Jim keep putting Raburn in the lineup? and at 6th?!? Time to take old yeller back behind the barn. He doesn't have it this year. He is a rally killer, every time he gets up he strands everybody on base, leaving the rest of the lineup scrambling to clean up his mess. Call up that Patterson kid from Toledo, he is at least hovering close to .300. Raburn is at a hearty .128

Zetterberg didn't even play C this year very often. he was the wing on Filppula's line. Moving him away from Dat hurt both.

Yes, plays a full season and can't even get to 60 points in the minors. Everyone that has any talent gets called up, which is way he plays the whole season there. As for bulking up, there is nothing he can do that will make him 6-2/205 which is the norm in the NHL for 2012. Those are the league avergaes-rounded off of course. Tatar is a nothing prospect. We are full of guys like him, and yet can't make any trades. You think there is a relationship there? Nobody wants our "propsects" other the Smith who we better not trade. Speedy Euor forwards that are under 6ft and less than 200 pounds are a dime a dozen. Every team has them. Yes they can help your AHL team, but most are far to small to help at the NHL level.

Semin is a perfect fit... anywhere but here.
