I agree. If your definition of toughness is exclusively in the realm of Probert and Kocur, then there are only six or seven guys in the history of the NHL that can be categorized as tough. Tootoo knows how to give and take real haymakers, throws his body around chaotically and drives into people like a freight train. On top of all of that, he is comfortable with actually playing hockey, and can be known to contribute as well. I'm looking forward to seeing this guy play, and I agree that he will surprise a lot of Wings' fans as well. -

If Holland signed Carkner axe would say he isn't tough either. He just likes to pop in every thread and write negative posts unless it's about Emmerton. The one guy everyone has a right to say his future isn't bright with the wings... -

Your thoughts on Sergei Fedorov

The baseball hall of fame is terrible. It's full of scrubs that just played long enough to hit the magic cutoff of numbers you're referring to, and has lots of marginal players that got in that way. I don't see why you would want that. I don't think the requirement should be "If I say a name, you remember who that guy is even if he wasn't on your team." It just seems silly. Look, if they did a ring of honor thing, like the Dallas Cowboys do, I'd absolutely say Feds should be there. I think Feds should make the HHOF with no problem. But jersey retirement is and should be, to quote the VP, a big f-ing deal. Also, I never advocated for Dats and Z to be retired either. Do I think they have the potential? Sure, but they're not locks. If we move into dead things phase 2, absolutely not. -

That's kind of the point. These are honors for the best of the best. Who wants to be part of a HOF that includes scrubs that got in on a technicality. (Well, he did win 300 games, so I guess he should get in.) Where is the honor in that? It's the HOF/Jersey retirement, not a participation ribbon. Because he's your favorite player doesn't necessarily mean he needs to be in the HOF or have his jersey retired, Lot's of people like Darren McCarty, but noone is advocating for him to get in or get a jersey retired. If the total package is there for enshrinement, then absolutely get them in there. It's one of those situations though where if there is enough sentiment against, or you have to fight really hard to defend the selection, then you're not really dealing with the best of the best. You're dealing with "pretty good." Or, it could be people just don't see enough there to qualify him for the honor. Do you think Ozzie should have his jersey retired? I mean, he has so many wins and playoff wins, and Cups, right? I know there are people that want this to happen, but it's just not logical. At the end of the day, these honors should be reserved for the Yzermans, Howes, Orrs, Lidstroms, Gretzkys, Richards, Roys. That's a hard club to crack, but it should be. -

Spot on. Tootoo is our toughest guy. He is not tough, though. Kocur was tough. Probert was tough. Id put Tootoo on a toughness level of Dino, but without the offensive punch. -

I expect Kronwall to show that he is a legit #1 dman. I don't think we really have a true #2 guy. White and Quincey are decent #3 and #4 guys. Quincey should be a little better this season. White does not get to play with Nick anymore so he will not be as good. Smith has the potential to be that #2 guy but he is not ready for this role yet. Ericsson is good on the 3rd pair and is a solid penalty killler. I have no use for Kindl. Just not a fan of his at all. I think with Kronwall stepping up and Smith coming in gives us some hope on the blueline. -

Yzerman is not an idiot. Heatley at this stage of his career, is an overpaid bum. I'd rather have Malone for his price and what he brings to the game over 7.5 million for a cherry picking Dany Heatley, let alone adding in Tampas best d-man. That rumor is gonna be false, I guarantee it. -

No way! Fedorov was great, but he is no Yzerman or Lidstrom. Retired jersey's are for legends not greats. If Detroit retired jersey's for every great player to suit up, there would be none left eventually. -

Just want to correct this notion on Quincey. He's more than a third pairing, he led his team in ice-team on the top pairing at 23:36 a night in 09-10, and 20+ each and every night since, he played more than Stuart last season, and just a minute behind Kronwall, and 4 minutes more than Ericsson. Quincey is also a productive offensive guy, even with how he struggled with us last season he still was well within top 60 defenseman in the league points-wise, so at the very least you are getting top 4 offensive numbers, and a decent size/skating ability player. Quincey was bad with us, but the potential is there for him to be a top pairing guy, don't forget he's still only 26, and has had a top .54 ppg(top 30) season in 70 games which was 08-09 with similar numbers to Letang, Burns, Edler and Pitkanen. -
1 pointAt 21, his first full season, Little scored 31 goals and 51 points. The next season he scored 13g, 34p. The next 18g, 48p. 24g, 46p last year. Similar amount of games each year. At 23, in his 2nd year, Vanek scored 43g, 84p. In the five years since, he's averages 32.4g, 63p. Again, no major time lost to skew the averages. Thus far, neither player has matched their early production. Little's goal scoring regressed substantially, just starting to rebound 3 years later. Vanek's point totals regressed substantially, and given his age now he may never match those totals again. Both players regressed during that 23-26 age range. Kane follows that path, you should expect him to average ~45 points for the next few years. Bobby Ryan is another example, though he's mostly just stagnated. 31g, 57p in 64 games as a 21yo rookie (40g, 73p pace for 82 games). Fairly similar the next two years, then a down year this one, where he scored the same 31g, 57p but in 82 games instead of 64. Again, he's in your magic age bracket. What most players do doesn't mean Kane is certain to improve. He might, and I'd love to have him. But even if he does score ~68 points next year, paying him $6.5-7M is still overpayment (unless 50 of those points are goals). Especially considering he's not a center nor particularly good defensively. And you have to give up a bunch of draft picks for that right. And that's making the assumption that you could even get him that cheap. The Jets would know better than anyone his potential for further improvement, and how much it would hurt their team to lose him. If they think there's a reasonable chance he can live up to a deal like that, they'd match. There's a reason few offer sheets are made. It's not some code of honor between GMs. It's the RFA rules.

LOL - I do - for entertainment. If you threw as much s*** out there as he did you'd "break" a couple deals too. (Please don't bother posting his "record" - his other slappies have already covered that). He repackages info already out there, claims it as his own, and makes leaps of logic (like connecting the wings to damn near every defenseman that can skate backwards) he attributes to "insiders". The guys been called out as a liar by several GMs, most notably by Ray Shero after his Parise verbal agreement with Pens BS. So yeah, I follow him and I'm saying he is unreliable. HickeyyInsiderr is an #a$$hat #Confirmed e5
