How is .917 SV% and 2.42 GAA not in the same ball park as .919 SV% and 2.51 GAA? And sorry .917 SV% and 2.42 GAA is better than Fleury's .909 SV% and 2.67 GAA. And if you don't want to compare careers, because why would large sample sizes matter let's compare their best years. Jimmy Howard's 09-10 season he had .924 SV% and 2.26 GAA, Fleury's best season 07-08 he had a .921 SV% and 2.33 GAA So Jimmy has proven to have a higher ceiling than Fleury, considering he's had a better season. Man Jimmy Howard is so underrated here, it's completely mind boggling, we finally have a good to very good goalie, and it's like we don't want one and have to fight every step to make sure he doesn't get any credit.

We're not a draft pick away from winning the Cup either. How about we just address some of our immediate needs this year, then some more next year, and try for the Cup every year? This whole "let's just wait and see what we get 10 years from now" is getting tiring. Win now, you know?

    Datsyuk - Cleary - Abdelkader

"Getting Sammy back was our deadline acquisition. He shoots the puck, can play the point on the power play and has a veteran presence." --Ken Holland esteef

Something I don't really get: We're all, "Yay! The young guys are finally getting a shot, and showing their stuff! So there are gonna be some big changes this summer!" But the only reason the young guys are up on The Big Club to begin with is injuries (e.g. Helm, Bertuzzi, Filppula, Samuelsson, Colaiacovo....) So what happens when these guys get healthy and return to the lineup? What happens to our youth movement then? Am I way off in assuming Tatar & Co. will get flushed back down to Grand Rapids and Holland will say something to the effect of "This whole ordeal has shown us our young guys can step in when called upon. (But there's just no room for them as is)"? Which is ok, I guess. I just can't wrap my head around why everyone seems to think all these young guys are now full-timers.

Kind of hard when you make passes that no one can handle or just turn it over. Some of the passes even yesterday Datsyuk made, most skilled players would have created scoring chances but instead Cleary and Abby just pin themselves on the boards just to turn it over. I don't understand how Babcock and Holland are letting this go, everywhere I read people are calling out Babcock for that line (facebook, twitter, blogs, media articles and even on the broadcasts). I seriously have no idea what he is thinking anymore.

Toughest job and most thankless in sports is a Motown Goalie and Motown QB. I agree with Carman...this forum could win 100 million in the lottery tonight and do nothing but ***** about the taxes!!

I agree, Nill should be given the GM position. However, we don't know that he isn't completely in tune with Holland on all these decisions. Hopefully Mr. I and/or his kids see what is happening and make the right choice. I'm tired of Kenny and his status quo approach.

Didn't get to watch any of this game, but one thing is still glaring....We need scoring. Sammy and Bert aren't gonna add enough to help (if they ever get healthy.) So it comes down to a trade. It the bottom line, even when we were doing so good the last few games, you cannot win enough if you only score 1-2 goals a game. I have to say, it's pretty sad that the WIngs cannot beat this team, I don't know what it is. ps. It sickens me everytime I see Hossa celebrating a big game winning goal or hell even a goal...he should have been a Red Wing for life.... ...anyway, this team is desperate for a scorer...so desperate that it is going to be expensive to acquire, but I say we need it, do it. Nothing we have in the IR is going to turn the scoring around to where we score 3-4 goals a game instead of 1-2....

I'm with you lock step on this one. I have no idea why anyone thinks Yzerman should be our GM. Oh wait, yes I do.

Which was largely done on a roster he inherited & a hot goalie that he got really lucky on. They missed the playoffs last year by 8 points & he's on the outside looking in again so far this season. So looks like he's gonna be 1 for 3 in playoff appearances? Sorry, I for one don't buy into the whole "Stevie is the front office messiah" thing at all. Anyway there are two internal candidates, Jim Nill & Ryan Martin, that should be ahead of him in that line for Kenny's job if he decides to hang it up in the next couple to few years.

    The Next Expansion Draft

How about we have a contraction draft. That will be much more fun! Dissolve two struggling franchises (Phoenix and....) and sell it for parts.

    The Next Expansion Draft

No way in hell this league can expand with the mess Pho is right now. Too many teams are struggling, contraction is a better idea than expansion.

You forgot other teams also have less injuries. And I completely disagree that our boys don't have the desire to win. IMO, the reason we have been winning is because the teams work ethic and desire. The parity in the NHL is ridiculous. I kind of look at it like this: There are 3 tiers of teams. The top tier is small, including Chicago, Anaheim, Vancouver, Boston, Pittsburgh maybe. THen you have tier 2 which includes most other teams in the playoff chase, including the Red Wings. The final tier has the teams like Edmonton, Columbus, NYI, etc. The point is, do you think the Wings could beat Chicago or Anaheim in a 7 game series? IMO, yes, because the teams in tier 1 aren't all that different from the teams in tier 2. Anaheim wasn't even that good last year and this year they are tearing it up. When you look at the big picture, teams really aren't that far apart when it comes to talent, especially in the top 2 tiers. Carolina will probably be a top seed in the East this year. Do you think the Wings could beat them in a 7 game series? I watch them play sometimes and they aren't all that impressive. LA was a tier 2 team last year and managed to win the cup. I am not convinced that this team can't win the cup when healthy. I think they have the ability to do it, and I think one more piece would push us closer to the top of tier 2. I also realize that every other team in Tier 1 and Tier 2 have the same chance and ability to win it as well. I just think people are panicking because we aren't the same dominant team we have been in the past. But the league has been changing dramatically, even since 2009 and 2010. Teams are a lot close together in terms of talent and depth. You have to get hot at the right time, get good luck with injuries, and anything can happen.

the odds aren't as good as past years, but they're probably better than future years. As I said, we might very soon find ourselves without Datsyuk and Filppula and an aging Franzen, Zetterberg, and Kronwall. I don't expect any blockbuster trade or anything, but I would like to see Datsyuk get a legit winger (not converted center), and another defenseman. Then we're very likely to make the playoffs, and combined with getting some guys healthy, we could very well go on a run. Two years from now I'm not so sure. Finally, replace any three guys you want with Tatar, Nyquist, and Andersson and we might be a marginally better team, but without another acquisition or two we're still not over the hump. These kids are good, but they aren't nearly good enough to take over games yet.
