    In appreciation of...

the 1996-97 and 1997-98 Detroit Red Wing Hockey Clubs, still the last teams to win consecutive Stanley Cups: Thank you!

That's what I thought about this series. The Wings may end up being Chicago's toughest test.

What would you give up for Malkin?

all i keep hearing is,"dont trade away our future for this guy." What you guys dont understand is that he could be our future. Hes got 10 years left in him, and for the KHL flight worryers, its basically been proven that the best players in the world want to play here. The NHL is still the premier league. Period. Youre telling me that we would never recover from parting with smith or nyquist and a couple of first round picks? Picks that could end up being busts anyway. Youre recieving a MVP player. The scorer weve been waiting for. How much better could that get? What player could we get via trade or free agency that would be better? Not saying he wants to come here, or that theyll even trade him, but how could you not want this guy if available? ******* crazy asses, I need to buy some pot from some of you.

Yeah I agree. There is no good reason the NHL Network doesn't cover AHL. Its the farking 2nd best league in North America. They cover CHL junior hockey 5 times better in Canada.

i got it to work and i watched some of the 2nd ... man what an awful feed lol they want people to spend like 2-300 dollars for ahl hockey and thats the feeds for the game? jesus ... so bad with all these useless channels out they should come up with a channel where they show junior hockey from canada and ncaa games as well as ahl so we dont have to watch hockey online with these awful shots

Absolutely. It was just lying out and not giving up on the play. Right after he makes the save, one of his own players clips him in the head and he seems stunned, not even realizing he has the puck. Then another Bruin skates by in front of the net and Chara crosschecks him out of the crease before he can even tell it's his own guy. Total chaos at the end. I'm sure I'll hate Chara when the Wings move East, but he's a great defenseman.

YEEEEHAAAA! Maybe if the Hawks' fans start bellowing their ol' favorite (the only one they know?), "Deetroit Sucks!", that'll fix it all. Yeah, that's it. NO set of fans deserves this s*** more.

What would you give up for Malkin?

People are still talking about this? I figured the first 15 times it was shot down and explained why it would be a horrible idea would end the thread. Guess not...

My favorite line from watching the sports talks shows here is "50 years from now, we'll look back on this and still have no idea how the Pens lost this series." Watching Milbury and Jones on NBC was like watching them mourn over the loss of a friend, saying how surprising it was. The sweep was the surprise, the results was not. Sure the Pens had all the talent to win a Cup, but that's pretty much it. It takes more than talent to win it. Boston was well coached, well organized, they played a great defensive system, people were in position all the time, passes were sharp and frequent, nobody panicked when they had the puck and they capitalized on defensive breakdowns. That's how the Pens lost. Boston was well prepared. It was obvious from Game 1. Bylsma will be gone, when your expectations are that high and your roster is that loaded, somebody has to take the fall. I just hope they don't go out and get Dave Tippett to replace him. Look at how much he got out of the Coyotes, I would hate to see him in Pittsburgh.

I know, right? He's played on 3 teams this season, in 3 leagues, in 3 postseasons lol Thought the top line of Andy, Gus, and Tatar looked great. Andy has mad PK skills.

It was working in the beginning but went all to hell later on. Hopefully the next game they'll get it fixed.

That's true, but the average height and weight for Chicago included huge guys that never touched the ice against Detroit, including Bollig, Mayers, and Hayes. Also, they have plenty of pretty big guys who play a finesse game also, such as Hjalmarsson, Stalberg, and Frolik. Actually, Bickell and Seabrook are the only guys on that team that are both big, and play a rugged big guy game. For example: While being big, Hossa only had 12 hits this season which was good for 19th on the team. By comparison Franzen had 43 which was good for eighth on the team, and Kindl had 46. Three different guys, all big, with varying levels of physicality. If one can count Franzen and Kindl's "not playing big" against the average height and weight, then you'd have to do the same for Hossa, Frolik, Stalberg, and Hjalmarsson, all of whom had fewer hits than Franzen (except Stalberg who had the same amount). Also, Franzen and Kindl both had more blocked shots than any of the guys I mentioned as well. So I'm not really sure how they're any less physical than Chicago's big bodies are.

What would you give up for Malkin?

For most players I would agree with you. But this is Evgeni frikken Malkin. How often do players of that calibre become (potentially) available? Especialy in the cap world were star players get locked up on long contracts? If we could get him for picks and prospects I say go for it, especially because of our deep pool of prospects. Fact is, we've almost got too many - they can't all play. I honestly expect KH to do something this off season, whether its trading up in the 1st round, or picking off a juicy RFA, just to de-clog the pipeline. Dats is 34, Hank is 32, Malkin is 26. If we do a trade + sign, we get 7-8 prime years of one of the top-3 players in the game.

More to the topic, that Chara glove save on Malkin at the ends was nuts. There's a great gif of it but I can't find one that's easy to post here.

I think Babcock and injuries leading to opportunities deserve more credit than Holland. At least regarding Holland's recent moves. The kids getting to play as much as they did was not his plan. The Tootoo deal is overpayment/too long a term. The Samuelsson deal wasn't great either. Also remember he was interested in Jagr at the deadline, but it got too expensive. So Holland was exploring giving up assets for a rental.

When was the last time a team traded their #1 pick for a soon to be UFA, just for the rights to the player? Seems absolutely ludicrous to this poster.

You honestly think Anaheim is going to give up their 1st pick for the rights to Filppula, who's about to become an unrestricted free agent?
